I've left Redpower in the trash. I miss it so bad but the modder is irresponsible. Applied Energistics is my standard for item transfer and storage now.

I've been using Project:Red with good results, which is a straight-up re-creation of RP. It just released about two weeks ago and, as far as I can tell, is only missing the higher tier machines (sorting machines, etc.) The wiring, logic, lighting, power gen, and worldgen are all in place. After having set up extensive sorting machine-based storage systems on three separate occasions, however, I'm definitely preferring AE for that now.
Or use Applied Energetics. I love Logistics Pipes more than any other mod, but it can make your world lag like hell if you have a complex setup.
That's true of basically any complex piping setup. Because it's transferring entities around, instead of just instantly moving them from one spot to another, and doing a lot of other stuff in the background. Effectively, if you want a large setup with any kind of complex processing or whatnot, and if you're not either on a really good computer or an incredibly capable server, you really need to be using AE these days. It's expensive to start up, but worth it's weight in the diamonds, gold, and iron you spend setting it up.
Guess it's hoppers for when I just need to move items from a few machines around to other machines, and AE's export and import busses for getting it to those machines.

You could also use Translocators, if you have that mod installed.

The trouble with Extra utils is I have already have CBM installed... I don't know if there's a way to just turn off the cobblestone packaging so that I can just use CBM's on that, or vice versa. I should look again. Extra utils would otherwise already be in my modpack.
Edit: I shoulda looked harder. I'm totally adding Extra utils now!
Thaumcraft golems are great for mid-range item transport. My whole 1.5.2 setup was operated by golems, from sorting to machines.
But of course, that hasn't updated yet either
I love golems, although I only scratched the surface of their uses before I burned out on MC for awhile. Thaumcraft and Thermal Expansion (and maybe Ars Magica) are on my short list of mods I'm waiting for 1.6.4/1.7 updates before setting up a new server.

The server I was playing on that had Thaumcraft kinda went toes-up before I really got to using golems for anything beyond scavenging my crucible.
it looks like a thermal expansion engine glitched. if you can find out which one you can remove it using MCEdit. if it server crashes every time it loads, then you will have to use MCEdit to fix it. if it did load correctly after the crash, the last few minutes may be undone, and whatever caused the crash will have happened in that time frame. (i have had this issue with some other mods a lot. )
Its Probablt been asked but I don't have time to search through the orignal Thread adn this one, Does thermal Expansion plan on being upgraded for MC 1.6.2+?

Project:Red doesn't have tubes. He's uncertain if he even wants to work on them. If you want special tubes, look at use Logistics Pipes, instead.

Beat me to it. Translocators are teh shiznit, for short distances. Filterable, blazing fast, and don't require any external power.
Wth am I going to do without my Thermal Expansion machines? I use the powered furnace, pulverizer, induction smelter, and all the other ThE machines.
:sigh:
Never going to get to enjoy 1.6.* or 1.7 because of my reliance on so many mods that won't update. argh

You need to read a bit more then. It IS updating... god knows when though

That makes me think it will come eventually.
not to mention the whole against the forum rules thing.
