I wonder if anyone can help. I'm attempting my own custom ore generation along with generating other mod blocks into the world to make the underground more interesting/varied (bit like a Poor Mans Underground Biomes setup).
But, I am encountering an issue, and I believe it's due to Meta data. Block 190 is the various TE ores, but, when they generate via the WorldCustomGen.txt I'm getting Block 193, which for me is the Railcraft Sulfur Ore.
I'm also trying to generate the railcraft Quarried and Abyssal Stone (IDs 457:7 and 457:6) but am getting Block 193.
All other blocks I generate without Meta Data (Sponge, Iron, BoP stones/dirt) appear just fine.
I'm using the Override Vanilla Option in world.cfg, alongside the WorldCustomGen.txt
Dunno what to tell you - if TE ore gen is working properly (and I'll bet it is), then there shouldn't be any problems. Be sure you're using tabs in the .txt file.
Yep. Ore gen is working fine from the world.cfg file, it's just any blocks with meta defined in the custom.txt file don't appear to generate with the correct block.
What I'm trying to do is 70% of the ores generate as normal level, just fewer but larger clusters. 20% generate slightly higher then normal down to bedrock, but in small clusters. And the remaining 10% generate in tiny clusters up in mountains.
I'm going to adjust my plans to avoid any meta ores/blocks.
First off, Welcome back KL. Your mod is one that we on our server find indispensable. I definitely understand IRL stuff overriding game time which some people put far too much importance on. Take your time with the update, we can wait.
I do, however, have one question: Will the 1.64 update be compatible with 1.62? The current MCPC+ version has only been updated to 1.62, and we'd prefer not to lose the Bukkit plugins we have when we update.
Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Edit: Nevermind, I see that there is now a 1.64 version of MCPC+. But still keep up the great work.
OK. Seen my problem. What I didn't appreciate that when you update the custom txt file. This information is transferred across into the world.cfg file. Some of my first config attempts were still in that cfg file, and so overriding my changes in the txt file.
So I'm hoping now that I've cleared out the custom section of the cfg, everything will be as I expect.
Probably. But they'd fragment the community and forever mess up mod and modpack cohesion. We're doing a rewrite, not porting the old 1.5.2 code. The hope was to port it, but the new BuildCraft API screwed that up, so we'll just shoot for TE 3.
I don't want unofficial builds, simple as that.
first off a big thank you to you and the whole team for all the work you do!
TE is one of my fav mods, the ores and ingots and all are just beautiful and all is very good designed. Sure, I like to play with it in 1.6.4 but take your time and do what you think is best for TE. have a great time and ty again.

After troubleshooting, I have found your mod is causing a crash with NEI when I search for items in a specific mod using the "@" key. NEI continues to function normally, but searching no longer functions. Searching for items does not cause this crash, but choosing a subset does. I am using the latest versions of your mods, and NEI. How can I fix this?
Will TE be updated to 1.6.4? You can't let this mod die it's too awesome! If you don't have time to work on it,you should let somebody else update it. Maybe Eloraam
You sir, do not know what you're even talking about... and don't, DON'T you ever use Eloraam's name in a post such as this. I am disgusted by your incompetence and ignorance. Go learn some history and come back to see how stupid your post looks to the rest of us.Lemming, let me be one to speak for the majority of us. Thank you and your team for all of your hard work on these projects, we all appreciate it very much. We have been very patient as updates can be problematic or time-consuming, we understand why no 1.6.4 update yet. I also know the importance of getting things right before release. Many of us miss the functionality these mods bring to our packs, but will patiently wait until you ring that dinner bell, then we'll all come running, ready to push that download button...
Keep up the great work people...

Do you not know a joke when you see one? I laughed my head off when I saw "Eloraam"!

For a while, I would weed out mods duplicating functionality on my server. Now, I like to have at least two ways of doing the same thing in any mod pack/server I assemble. I miss TE, but was able to move past it and since it doesn't really break world gen for myself, I will add it back once it is updated.
This is something that many people should practice as it will prevent your world coming to a grinding halt, if you choose to update and get newer features from other mods. And when situations arise, such as RP2, it's not as big of a deal anymore. It also allows you to appreciate someone else's work without depending on it.
@wasabi_warrior: I see your wall of text and raise you one (spoilered) wall of text in response. (spoilered since most people won't care one bit for it, and this conversation is sort of going into off topic at this point)
-snip- The point im trying to make is that incentives are not based on user base, and should NOT be.
Not entirely, but they still are, at least in part. Having a better idea than the first guy is awesome, but it still takes time and effort to convince people to change. Your own examples of internet browsers and linux actually prove this, considering how long it has taken for them to gain popularity against the factory standard (Windows / Mac, IE / Safari). The fact that people have to go out of their way to make that change, even if it's for an entirely better alternative, means that whoever is making the better product then either has to take additional effort to make sure they have good exposure, be willing to wait a long time, or basically be doing it just for fun or some other personal reason.
Also, I disagree with the whole 'total package' mod thing. Look at 'better than wolves'. -snip-
Features attract people, and larger mods have more features. Compatibility only makes a difference because it enables certain features to work alongside (or even with) other features. Your example of better than wolves, again, proves this. Try comparing it to other smaller forge-incompatible mods. It is still far more popular than any of them. If you want to make a forge-incompatible mod that does only 1 thing that better than wolves does, you will likely have very few people use your mod, thus hardly any incentive to make it. Imagine what would happen if better than wolves was actually forge compatible as well? Not every mod developer does what they do just for fun or to challenge their self, and the ones that don't will find larger mods quite imposing.
But what I then see is such partnerships create niches. -snip-
Again, as I mentioned in the first post, it won't matter in this case, power converters will likely consume it if there is a new power system. Then, people can again put it into whatever niche they want if they only want one small part of it. Should TE try to become something larger, great. That just means more freedom to select just how much of it you want to use. If it excels at it, then people will use all of it, and if not then smaller mods will fill the gaps.
-snip- What will TE offer that is enough to make them *want* it, side by side buildcraft or not, regardless of compatibility?
Either the same thing as before, minus direct buildcraft to TE power network connections, or something entirely different. As mentioned before, compatibility is a moot point so long as TE is forge-compatible and power converters exist in some form or another (as an additional mod). We can also assume that either much of the desired features they have now will make it into the new version, or they will have thought of improvements or changes they can make. So, if TE still has some or all of those core features that they have now with 1.5, won't that be enough, as it was before? Anyway, like Lemming has said, popularity still wouldn't matter one bit to them specifically.
Sometimes I wonder what there is to convert these days- pretty much everything allows the player to power their machines with coal or lava in some form. Some have solars or other free but trickle power sources, and some will just force you to build a treefarg for automatic renewable power. I mean, sure, running everything off one kind of power and converting it where needed is fun and all, but a person could in theory just make a DARK ENGINE with lava tanks filled to the brim and surrounded by lava because that just looks cool.

Today the 1.7 pre-release is out. The official 1.7 is comming in friday. What will happen with this mod? Will it be outdated again? I am really nervous of this. Hope KL doesnt do what soaryn joked in his streaming: "He knew that the 1.7 was comming and he ran away from moding"
I'm about ready to give up running a server...the fact that Mojang breaks my every time they update, is a pain in the ass. I love your mod, as I do many others, but I don't know how you guys do it, it would me off.
Why they've even gone to the bother of obfuscating when the modding community is the ONLY thing that's kept their game afloat, is beyond me. If Minecraft was still only Vanilla, it would have died a horrible death LONG ago...
I get the need for updates, I welcome them, what I don't welcome is how they seem to intentionally hinder the modding community and have no clue what major/minor revisions encompass.
What no it wouldn't. I played vanilla for the longest of time and was HAPPY with all I had in alpha. ALPHA. Mods only improved my enjoyment but if need be I'll still play vanilla and mess around with creative mode. There's a ton I couldn't do back in alpha that I can do now JUST vanilla.

I love blanket statements like these without any sort of evidence to back it up. (By the way, vanilla is still going strong, even if you don't personally care to play it.)
Oh, and, by the way, if you don't want to use an official Minecraft update... nobody's making you.

Minecraft 1.6 has been out since July 1st. Lets not blame Mojang that several well known mod authors have taken till now to update. Mojang's responsibilities do not include working their schedule around hobbyist. This is the risk we take as mod users. We place ourselves at the mercy of those who haven't any responsibility to update.
