New version up! Added update notifier (tells you if there is a newer version), powered sponges, and made the liquid replacement on block breaking a config option (if you have issues, try deleting the config and letting it regenerate).
Well Done! Works perfectly now. Would it be possible to add option in config file to turn off update notifier for those of us who prefer to check for updates manually? Thanks again for this very useful mod.

Sure I will add it into my notes for the next release.
On that note, I officially have nothing (other than that config option) to make a new update with... Anyone got any ideas?
Can I have a second option in the settings for the powered sponges?
I would like to tweak the settings so that normal sponges do not replace liquids, but powered sponges do when switched off.
settings {
I:"Sponge absortion (blocks)"=4
B:"Sponges replace liquids on breaking"=false B:"Powered sponges replace liquids on off"=true
}
This would help to create hidden passages or evil traps.

Thank you so much for the update! The mod is now fantastic!
Glad you like it. I am working on fixing the mechanics of replacing liquids on breaking before I release the next version, but I already implemented the option for the powered sponges to replace liquids.
A good idea for the future update would be lava sponges, sponges that soak up lava. Because sometimes lava is harder to get rid of them water. It would also help in the nether. just a suggestion though

It is already done. The obsidian sponges soak up lava. It isn't mentioned in the OP but in later posts. Andr3w should point this out more clearly on the OP.
I was going to request a way to optionally replace the water/magma or not replace it from within game, but it looks like someone else already did.
Basically, if you're building an under water base, it'd be good to permanently get rid of the water from inside the base, but only temporarily get rid of the water outside of it for building purposes and then replace it.

Take the normal sponge to get rid of water permanently.
Use the powered sponge with a switch to temporarily remove the water.

Sure I will take a crack at that tonight.
