How stable/consistent was the last 1.7.10 release? I need to make sure in case I need to use this alongside a mod that hasn't yet been updated to newer versions.

I'm not sure. The earliest version I have the source code for is 1.2.3 so I have no record. It's simple enough that it's probably stable, and it's all client side so there probably won't be an issue.
Is there another way I can download this mod for 1.7.10? The link that it sends me to is kinda shady and I don't trust, is there any way I could download it another way?
