Hey Romaq. I have seen your posts over at the BBO mod and was wondering how you are suppose to install that mod? I left a comment over there, but I have yet to get a reply.
BBO requires Forge. I've not used Forge yet, as I tend to focus on LiteLoader plugins. If all you are looking at is single-player, install Forge, download the BBO plugin, I believe you are good to go.
For SMP (multiplayer servers), BBO is not going to work at all, as I understand it. The server manager would need to give copies of certain files to you and you would have to look at it in Single Player, which gives away seed values and pretty much ruins exploring and you can see where all the structures are in single-player, mine right through it all on the server.
Village Marker *can* be used in SMP if the mod operator installs the Spigot mod, and does NOT give away seed values. But you can "notice" villages from a very long way off because of the glowing ball marking the extent of a village. BBO (showing all structure bounding boxes) is NOT this plugin, it only deals with village issues. Though I'd be pretty happy if BBO code were ported back to this plugin, then SMP use of BBO becomes a real option.
Well the reason I asked is that it states it has a vanilla vs w/o having to use forge. That's why I asked. The rest I have used w/o problem. Thank you for your response
I plan to play with BBO, but I will use Forge. I have LiteLoader and Optifine, I'm not sure what effect slapping a patch would be, so I'm more comfortable going the Forge + Optofine + LiteLoader route.
Good luck, perhaps we'll see the BBO code rolled back into Village Marker.
Kabo? I've looked over the last few pages of comments but haven't really found a simple answer to the simple questions: What version do I need for 1.12 (SSP, vanilla)? Where can I get it?
I am on my cell on break, so I can't easily cut and paste the link. But the link is on LiteLoader.com/mods towards the bottom. If you have trouble finding it, I will get the direct link here in about 10 hours time. Sorry, I work long shifts. Hopefully someone else will see and reply with the direct link before then. 1.12.1 is not released yet.
So just install LiteLoader from www.liteloader.com/download for 1.12, download the file from the mods.curse.com link and put that in your .minecraft/mods/1.12 folder, and you are golden for using this in SSP/ Vanilla 1.12. For 1.12.1, we need an update of the LiteLoader mod at least.

EDIT: Checking the link, it is still for 1.12. eruvanos will need to be contacted and *POLITELY* asked to update for 1.12.1. A donation with a heartfelt expression of gratitude might also be useful. I noticed I was the first to post a "like" on the CurseForge page with the 1.12 version.
I can't speak for eruvanos, but I'm pretty sure spreading some love in the world wouldn't hurt getting an update to this really cool mod.
The ".litemod" version *will* work "standalone" as long as you are using LiteLoader in your single player game.
"on multiplayer or on Spigot" the *only* way you can use it "multiplayer" is to run a Spigot server and run the plugin portion of the code as a Spigot plugin AND THEN you still have to use LiteLoader and the ".litemod" client side to use it "multiplayer/ spigot".
If you prefer using Forge in Single-player, http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding-java-edition/minecraft-mods/2345401-bounding-box-outline-reloaded-mod-for-minecraft-1 will also work. But the "Bounding Box Outline Reloaded" Forge mod WILL NOT do "Multiplayer/ Spigot" without the server op transferring specific files to the player using the client, and there are some details on that you will have to research in the message thread there. The Spigot Plugin doesn't have any such file business, it just works AS LONG AS you are using the LiteMod client.
The "Village Marker Mod" spigot plugin "may" work with 1.12.1 and 1.12.2, but the ".litemod" portion has not been updated so this can be verified yet.
If the server (either Vanilla or Spigot) has no Village Marker code running, the LiteMod portion of the Village Marker code won't do anything for Multiplayer. Just Single-Player only.
Thank you Romaq for the information, although those news are quite a bummer... as most servers won't bother to provide the plugin. And it is always more fun to play on a server than standalone.
So I guess I'll have to stick to the manual calculation (32 + radius from center of village to the nearest doors).
I hope that a future version will be free of this limitation.
I'm not sure it would be possible without the server plugin, as I think the data is only available there. If you have a "mess" of doors, such as a very large village with a town wall of doors, the doors that get "picked" depend on the wandering villagers. I did exactly that, and the "center" was all over even if the doors didn't move. I would have to have "hostage" villagers near the walls to keep what doors counted spread out. Only the server would have the "official" data on what doors count at any given time. A client would have to "guess", which is expensive in calculation, and may be wrong. A "client only" is highly unlikely.
However, if you are tooling with an iron farm design or "walled town with built-in doors," test the mechanics out in single-player with the Village Marker litemod. If the doors and villagers are stable, the result will be the same.
Also, keep in mind this mod allows you to see villages from an obscene distance away. Used that way, it is horribly cheaty, and I can see why servers would never consider using it.
I have a silly question for you.
What button do I use to show/hide the boundaries? I'm sitting here staring at a village and iron farm but nothing shows up.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sometimes my imagination runs away from me. It always comes back eventually, with cake!
Are you in single player? Does the LiteLoader tab show the mod as loaded? Try that first. SMP is more tricky as it requires THEY have a plugin on their side for this to work at all.
Also, last I saw this was not yet updated for Minecraft 1.12.1 or 1.12.2. ๐
On mine it "just worked". I'll need to check it out later today as I must start my "honey-do" list before my wife breaks my fingers. But there is an option page. Hopefully, someone will catch this and respond before my wife allows me to check it out myself?
I just downloaded 1.4.2 (next version after your reported version) for MC 1.12.2. For me, it "just works". If I click on the LiteLoader tab and go into the settings for the mod, I have checkboxes for "Draw Villages", "Draw Golem Spawn Area", and "Draw Dots". I have all mine checked, sphere density is max and dot size is large. In the "Options | Controls" menu, I do not see any key controls available for Kabo's Village Marker, so no keys to "toggle" the settings for the mod. You should double-check inside the LiteLoader settings menu for that mod.
Try checking out the latest version 1.4.2 for use with Minecraft 1.12.2. Oh, I had one thought to check... SHADERS! I turned on shaders and where it was working before, I get *nothing*. If you are using Optifine or the Shaders mod, be sure to turn OFF shaders in the Optifine config or remove the Shader's mod from your load. If the Village Marker mod STILL doesn't work, try turning OFF all other mods until it does, then turn the mods back on until you find the one that is causing the problem.
At the moment, I expect you are using Optifine with shaders. Let me know how this comes together for you, I hope this great mod will work for you. Just turn shaders back on within Optifine when you are not needing this mod at that moment.
EDIT: Oh! I just saw your edit. Great! I'm glad to see it is working for you now. If you need this for SMP, it does get a bit more tricky but it will work with SMP if they are using the Spigot plugin for it.
Village Marker is now on https://www.spigotmc.org/wiki/spigot-1-12-plugin-compatibility-list/.

EDIT: Ok... https://mods.curse.com/mc-mods/minecraft/270170-villagemarkermod-for-liteloader is where you may download the 1.12 LiteLoader version of this mod. It will work in Singleplayer. For SMP, the server op needs to have https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/villagemarker for Bukkit/ Spigot servers. The plugin "might" work in 1.12.1, but without the LiteLoader update, there's no way to see it at this time.
Isn't there a 1.12.1 version for liteloader yet?
No 1.12.1 last I checked.

I am not quite clear on how this mod has evolved. It seems that at one point it worked standalone, on multiplayer or on Spigot.
Will it work on multiplayer if the server has nothing installed to support it?

This is what the Settings page looks like on my end.
and of course the config shows the same in text format.
Edit:
I created a new world with default generation and found a village. It does indeed work as intended.
Great work, by the way. This should help with future projects.

I don't think I would use it on multiplayer unless there is a Sponge version. I don't like Spigot, but that's my own opinion.
