Awesome dude. Thanks so much. Quick question though: would 1.8 need a different method of how a mod detects villages?
The mod doesn't "detect" villagers. It just changes what Minecraft does with the village data. In this case, it draws lines and dots using the X,Y,Z coordinates of every house and village centers. I haven't peeked into the sourcecode of 1.8, but it should be similar...
To implement the mod you have to find the correct place to tie the village info the game works with to the rendering engine. This code path doesn't exist in vanilla because the game doesn't do anything to display villages. The village logic didn't change much, so that part is easy, they did however rewrite the entire rendering engine. If that doesn't make it hard enough the code is obfuscated. Even if you know java its still like trying to find which paragraph to insert your sentence in a 3000 page novel written in a different language. At least we know what the novel is about
I'm attempting to build the iron trench on my own server, and after 2 weeks now of troubleshooting what is wrong I'm stumped. I turned to use the mod but Couldn't get it to work, even if I downgraded to 1.7.2 :/ I see there is talk about updating it to 1.8, I really hope this will happen as I am currently running on 1.7.10, I hope to see this mod continuing to be updated!
IIRC, there was a minecraft version that broke the iron trench because it changed the way villages formed, although if you already had the trench built from an earlier version and upgraded, the trench would still work so long as the villages didn't collapse due to chunk unloads. If you follow the Iron foundry tutorial and build it in the spawn chunks of your world in the correct version of MC, then upgrade to a later version, you should have a working foundry.
Edit: Reinstalling the plug in seems to have fixed it.
I am having trouble getting your plugin to work on my server. I have version b12 on my client and that works in SSP. I have VillageMarker-0.33.jar installed on my Craftbukkit 1.8 server but I am unable to see any markers. Do you have any idea what might be the problem? Thanks for your help.
I tried using 7 zip to add the mod files into the version .jar file as you did in your video, but 7 zip doesn't support packing .jar format: only Unpacking. Do I have the wrong version of 7 zip? Can you recommend something else?
