This is a very nice and simple mod. As soon as I upgrade to 1.5 I will check it out (after all the other mods I'm using upgrade, or at least most of them)

You could wait... or I could upload a 1.4.7 compatible version for you! Torch Levers MC 1.4.7
And thanks for the youtube spotlight/reviews, I'll add them to the first post.
Really love this idea. I'll definitely add this one to my list of regular mods. Keep up the good work!
I'm adding your mod to the mod list, a link to which can be found in my signature. I'll add it to both the 1.4.7 and 1.5 versions of the list, since you offer an old download for 1.4.7. Feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have. If you rather me not add your mod to the list, let me know. Either by PM, quoting me, or you can find me in the IRC channel #mcf_modlist on irc.esper.net.
And lastly, before I go, a suggestion for the recipe:
Instead of using a torch and a lever, simply use a torch in place of a stick for a lever. So, cobblestone with a torch on top.
Pretty sure there is already a mod called "Secrete Room's" that includes this and a whole extra range of of stuff. Good work but you have to find something that you can make your own
He clearly states that this specific idea is floating around in other mods, But as he said this gives you this feature without the others
I personally don't need 1001 different ways to hide a room (as secret rooms provides) but am more then happy with just a lever that Camouflages.
And on that topic anyways, Rarely do you see an original idea anymore, Most mods that have popped up lately are just modified versions of existing/dead mods with their own twists and tweaks on them
i like this mod! is pretty useful but i was thinking theres only one thing that could make it more great and that is adding another recipe where the Torch/lever be timed and reset to the inicial position so if you use the toch after a while from activatin it will turn off that way it could hide more and not let people inside our secret room so easy if we forget to press the Torch lever i hope you like it as much as i liked your mod!

Okay I lied when I said I wasn’t going to update this… it’s just too much fun not to!
Check the initial post for version 1.1, now with Redstone Torch Levers… (They are easier to hide since they give off less light… but maybe you just want to use them as a glow in the dark light switch that won’t light up the room on its own).

I do like the idea of levers being controlled by redstone, this could accomplish something like what you describe. But that poses its own problems, until then you can try to solve this (it’s extra important in multiplayer), by doing some intermediate redstone… If you feed the torch into a falling edge detector, and that into a T-flip flop you can get a lever that only toggles when it’s returned to the off position.
I know that sound pretty hard to do, and I’m not sure how much redstone you’ve done, so I made a short video tutorial.
The next version will include a hidden button, so if you don’t want to use extra space on a circuit like that, you can use the secret button instead.
And lastly, before I go, a suggestion for the recipe:
Instead of using a torch and a lever, simply use a torch in place of a stick for a lever. So, cobblestone with a torch on top.
Thanks for the suggestion, I had initially planed something like that, but forgot about it. I changed the recipe in the new version. Also thanks for adding me to your mod list, I'm sure a lot of people look their for new mods.
I was hoping you would keep up with this. I like the idea of hidden buttons also.
But as a suggestion for that, Make them have a EXTENDED timer built into them.
Like when you press the button it keeps the redstone current for say 5-10 seconds or something (if possible even make the duration configurable)
Then one thing that has always bugged me about minecraft buttons is the very short duration on them.
Even if you don't add more features, I highly recommend you at least keep this mod updated, I think its fantastic and will definitely be apart of my main set until it dies down.
Torch Levers is Episode 212 in my Mod Review Collection
Thanks HitchH1k3r for this really awesome mod!

LONG VERSION:
GUESS WHAT?
...
The mod just broke 1337 downloads; Thank you everyone!
I was hoping to have an update out by now, but 1.5.1 came out, and with it a broken Forge API... once there is a stable Forge release I'll update. Thank you to all the mod spotlighters, I really appreciate it.

The buttons will have a configurable timer, but default to 1 second, like a vanilla stone button. Thanks for the suggestion, if anyone uses this in a modded adventure map they might find this feature useful.
Redstone torch levers seem like they should send an inverted signal; that is, off when down and on when up.
Either that, or they should only light when up/down. They just seem like they should be different from the normal torch lever...
I completely agree, the only problem is I'm not sure how best to implement it, and I don't want to change it in a future patch so I have to get it right the first time. I think it's a bit silly that redstone torches, having so much to do with redstone act exactly the same as a regular torch lever. An inverted signal is easy enough to achieve by sticking a redstone torch on the back of the block.
Right now I think they are most useful as glow in the dark light switches, they don't light up the area that much, but can be found in the dark easily.
Ideally I'd like a way they can be turned on and off by a redstone signal, but I can't find a way to work that into MineCraft's current redstone system. For now I'll leave them as is, but if anyone has ideas on function and/or implementation I'd be glad to hear them.
Is it a technical impossibility to remove the " lever " base? Does the animation clip?
The only thing stopping me from using this is that it doesn't blend very well. It blends to the stone but it pops out too much to matter.
It's not only possible, it would be considerably easier then my custom render code. The base is included to have some visual difference between torches and torch levers, unlike the vanilla lever that has a base that's 3 or 4 (I think) voxels thick , it's only 1, and is also smaller in width and height. Imagine that you hide a secret room, protected by a torch lever on the left side of a long tunnel, but you haven't played in a few weeks and don't remember exactly which torch. Knowing it's on the left will help you find it, but because it looks a bit different you actually will be able to. It's not really that easy for people that aren't looking for them to find them, but it's my opinion that it's a more balanced mod because they can.
If you're looking for a mod that provides hidden switches that look exactly like their counterparts I'd suggest the Secret Rooms Mod.
