so here's an idea, could you try to somehow make noteblock studio be able to implant crap directly into mc using your mod. though i know that IS a bit redundant. but i think it's still a good idea.
Unfortunately, I cannot alter Noteblock Studio to do this. It's a great program though, isn't it? The closest I could come is to read Noteblock Studio save files and put them into books. Which would be pretty cool.
I cannot do more than base minimum upkeep on this mod for the next few months, however, due to work.
actually i have another thing i'd like to see here. you need a way to show "dotted notes". ok, now a dotted note is when there is a small dot after the note, and what it does is extend the note's duration by half of it's normal duration. ex. dotted whole note = a whole note and a half note's worth of holding. though i guess i could just use another space on the sign. still...... it's an actual music term and i'm having trouble without it. though i didn't think of using the double note thing that i just thought of.

This is a very cool mod, I added it to my pack.
My only issue I have is that the config files aren't located in the config directory. Would be nice if this were to use the resourcepacks and config integration in forge so I could just push different midi resource packs to the clients and let them choose.
For now I'll just overwrite mineTunes/MCDittySettings.xml every update.

This entry is causing me grief, it keeps being overwritten on world load, I've set it to false and it keeps being rewriten as true.

I will consider moving the config files in the future (it is on my little list), but with limited time around college it may or may not happen.
Hi. I'm trying to get Minecraft involved in my musical education, so your mod is fun (I'm using it in FTBs latest Monster pack (1.0.3)). Some feedback:
- the 1.6.4 version link in your main post points to 1.6.2
- placing netherrack next to a note block that's on grass/dirt (piano) prevents the note block from making a sound (visual feedback correctly indicates lowered octave, but no sound is emitted; adding a soundfont does not help)
- I like the note block editing feature; consider adding a key combo to edit existing signs without having to destroy them first, otherwise it's a bit awkward. In FTB, there's a sponge eraser item that allows you to edit signs, and that's pretty convenient.
- the menus are rather cluttered, e.g. it took me a long(ish) while to figure out that something I was looking for was on the current screen but invisible until I clicked the green recycle/reload button
- I can't figure out how the jukebox/noteblock playing areas work, but this could be my failing.
Since I don't see a link to source code for me to play around, consider this crazy idea: what I'm looking for is a note block for which I can pick any MIDI instrument and tune it to any note. When redstone signal is applied, send noteOn; when removed, send noteOff. Combined with something (item? key combo?) that allows copying the exact setup of such a note block and batch-applying it to a bunch of others would make a fun environment to make interactive musical games (identify interval, pitch training in minecraft!)

Thanks for the feedback! Immediately after you posted, I corrected the download link, and I am considering each of your suggestions.
- The "no noteblock sound" bug is a result of the new Resource Packs in Minecraft 1.6. I will update MineTunes to _really_ use Forge in Minecraft 1.7, and register sounds properly. This should also clear up any bugs with SFX Instruments.
- Sign editing would only work in single player. Nevertheless, I will consider it for the next update.
- The next update will feature clearer menus.
- The next update will also come with a fresh example world, with all the new voice synthesis and BlockTune features in pride of place.
i'm using the magic launcher but i'm 100% positive that it's not the issue
i have a laptop and a desktop. my laptop, when it plays mc through the magic launcher has no sound. however it DOES work. as does minetunes which is also there. my desktop, runs mc without minetunes just fine. but when i add minetunes to the list of mods to be run, the game crashes. yes, i have the correct version of forge installed and yes i have the correct version of minecaft.
If you can find away to import midis, you'd be awesome.
You can, Just get a book & Quill and open it. and youll see a three boxes in the left side of the screen. slect the music note box and select a file. and select write part and close and sign. if nothing appear in the book . press done and open it again and sign. For playing the midi, Just Press Ctrl+B and it will play.
You don't even need to sign the book for it to work. Very useful if you are playing survival, but still want an intense midi soundtrack! You save on books in the long run.
minecraft says that it's working. the minetunes screen works. EVERYTHING
works. except when i try to modify a note block with
endstone/netherrack. then that note block being modified goes silent no
matter what i do. ideas?

Darn tootin' it is!
An update to 1.6.4 will come within the next couple of weeks, or maybe more, depending upon the whims of my classes.
You simply add a period after the duration letters.
Your other solution is correct as well: you can always just write something like "Ais" or "C6qi" to achieve the same end as well.
Multiple dots do not work, but unless you're planning to go all Wagnerian on us, it won't be a problem.
Have fun!

Yes, later today or tomorrow I will try to put it up here.

MineTunes is open source. Feel free to ping me with any questions, and thanks for playing MineTunes!
