why wont you let other people help in making the mod better. like put on the front page of the thread that your open to getting more coders... if you complain about not having enough time. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just sharing my opinion.
Then let's get more constructive and you can tell me about this memory leak cuz I wasn't aware of it and can't produce it. MC version, mod version, logs, what did you see, what did you do, whatever you consider helpful.
I understand you are not trying to be a jerk, you probably can't help it or something. That's ok.
You see I'm from another time zone and another community. I normally work in a QQ group ( which roughly translates into an IRC channel that requires a Chinese software ) where everyone speaks Chinese. I'm only here to see people's replies so that I can add meaningful entries to my todo list. If some coder wants to help, he'd better be a Chinese with regular QQ usage. And chances are I already know him. There are only so many Chinese modders, you know.
why you guys having trouble with mine-painter with optifine?
i have both and they working awesome
no issues at all
also i suggest to make a site or a blog
(a place) where we could share images for our creation?
(Not this thread... maybe another one for that?)
just saying i really would like to see what other have made
I haven't had a problem with optiFine either, but that doesn't rule out the possibility. I do see in other modders posts with conflicts that they stress to use the version of forge that is the correct version for the optiFine build you are using. Maybe that could help?
I have no issues with A4 Standard or Ultra with this mod. As for a memory leak I've not noticed one, though my FPS does dip a bit when facing a couple sculptures. I'll do some more testing this morning for memory leaks specifically, with and without MinePainter (I have 208 mods installed, unfortunately).
Running Forge 1232, Optifine A4 Ultra, FastCraft 1.9 and MinePainter 0.3.0f1 on Minecraft 1.7.10, I get no memory leak. When I start to add in other mods, my memory gradually increases as I chip off parts of blocks with the Chisel. However, just standing in one place looking at a sculpture does not increase my memory (tested for 5 minutes), and unloading/reloading chunks with sculptures in them does not increase RAM use any more than normal. Adding in Forge Multipart (I suspected this to be a culprit) did not seem to change anything either.
I've run out of time today to do more testing, but I'm seeing memory use increase (I maxed around 7GB) when used with other mods but nothing out of the ordinary when used by itself. I hope the above information helped somewhat, and I apologize if it came off as vague.
could you make it so sculptures are able to be crafted or be the output of recipes? I used crafting manager mod make a recipie for a sculpture but then got a crash. http://pastebin.com/MHznunSq
I was chiseling vanilla blocks - stone, redstone block, glowstone block, orange and blue stained glass, and dirt. I used the same world in the stripped-down test I described above and then loaded in about 45 utility mods - things like StatusEffectHUD, QuickHotbar, JourneyMap, Hats - nothing that added actual modded blocks, in an attempt to eliminate which kinds of mods caused issues. Also, I failed to mention above that I am using the Invictus 64x texture pack. I should do tests this morning without a texture pack to see if it impacts memory use. I'll report back in a couple of hours with (hopefully) better info.
Okay, did a bit of testing with a (relatively) light load of mods - none of them add custom blocks or items other than MinePainter.

I loaded the game up, created a new world and placed these blocks in the world. RAM use - 1.369G:
Started chipping parts off of it with the Chisel (1.587G), then the Shaver (1.667G), then the Saw (1.785G). My pile of parts, and a random blob I made out of it. I was at 1.893G after building it:
I then ran out about 32 chunks from where I placed the blocks (2.326G) and then returned to spawn the way I came (2.449G). Finally, I left the PC AFK and just stared at the blob I made. When I came back after around 9 minutes, I was at 3.858G used - well over the maximum I *should* be allotting.
On the other hand, I loaded *only* Minepainter 0.3.0 and staring at the sculpture for 10 minutes didn't move the RAM usage above 1.125G (started at 952M, and I ran around a bit and generated new chunks). I repeated the same actions as above with chipping parts off of new blocks, and never went above 1.149G. I'll do some more testing and see if I can't narrow it down.
We are having similar buildup of ram usage on our server, but I didn't think it was MinePainter because it seems centered around sounds. Setting master volume to zero and back seems to fix the problem, so was thinking a mod that messed with the sound system is probably causing it.
However just for the sake of testing, what happens when you set your volume to zero?
Well, I did some somewhat extensive testing with the modlist I posted above, though incomplete. From what I can tell, if NEI/any Chickenbones mods aren't loaded, I have no issues - I repeated my above post's steps several times and never had my RAM go above 1.378G. Traveling around, chiseling, placing sculpture pieces, staring at the mess I made.. everything was OK.
As an aside, this goon played in my sculpture mess for a good 10 minutes while I was AFK'ing during a test run. Not stuck.. just running and jumping off the sculptures. Was pretty cool
@Mctittles - to test your method I loaded my full modset (208 total) without the 64x Invictus pack and it began generating RAM issues. I did as you suggested and turned volume to 0, then back to 75% (what I have mine set to normally). RAM was not freed, but the leak stopped until I started making a new pile of junk on the ground and increased. Does CodeChickenCore/Lib do anything with sounds? I ran out of time to test today or I'd have tried to discern for myself.
I have little idea how NEI renders subtype items. If it tries to iterate through all possible pieces of minepainter Sculpture Piece then ... well I'm not surprised to see anything. Guess I'll have to make some plugin for it if we can confirm that's the source of the mem leak.
When I broke a stone chisel, the game kicks me out. I can enter after that and everything works. Did anyone reported this kind of problem? NEI is not in the pack (I mention this because I had problem with NEI, I read about a NEI issue in the last minute and your last coment was about NEI too).
I understand you are not trying to be a jerk, you probably can't help it or something. That's ok.

You can't. But you can move it around.
Or you can go to the config to enable the recipe for Copygun, which is like

Gold Gold Iron
[space]Gold Iron
Or you can check it out with NEI yourself.

Hmm. That's interesting. Are you chiseling anything unusual or is it just a vanilla block? What mods did you add ?
mcf's editor keeps translating that square bracket into a tag. hmm.
