i had found a little issue in the beta: when lighting a torch without separating it from the stack with another torch fixed on a wall , the whole stack is lit and all torches are consumed in a few seconds, the ones on the wall and the ones from the stack !
I suppose this is a consequence of the new lifespan code you have implemented.
Very annoying if you have prepared a stack of 64 torches to see them puff off in a few seconds !
yup, that's definitely because of the new lifespan thing. now you see why i released it as a beta first lol. i've been thinking about it and maybe making them one-use-only is enough of a challenge. so maybe i can do away with the new lifespan thing. (or vise versa) anyway, that'll change in the actual update
EDIT: updated the beta. reverted to the old way of handling lifespans (no more splitting lifespans) and bug fixes
I updated to the latest beta earlier today and everything had been running fine in singleplayer, yet we've started encountering a crash on the server running it.

Hope this helps you stabilize the beta for servers we would love to be able to use the beta as we've wanted a lantern solution like yours for ages.
hmm. looking at that report, that is a weird crash... i'll look into it. and thanks! the lanterns aren't too much of a pain to get, are they? this is supposed to be a hardcore mod but even if i already made them easier to get (the lanterns were originally a lot harder to light actually) i'm still wondering if i made it too hard. lol.
Awesome mod!
It's so much fun when you're finding yourself deep underground with only one half used torch in hand and without sticks or flint to make more
I have one idea that you'll probably refuse due to short time and college but well...
Seeing as torches are low tier and lanterns more like mid-tier maybe add something that would allow us to setup a lighting system with centralized refilling of fuel?
One image (mspainted by me) can say more than a thousands of words:
Here I'm using rotatycraft engine just as a placeholder for something else from your mod. I hope you get the idea
And here's a use for lantern hook to allow connecting lanterns behind a corners.
Of course lanterns should be upgraded first to version which uses some kind of light bulbs (bonus point if you could make them randomly turn off for few milliseconds and show some sparks or break after, say, a week or two of constant use )
thanks!:) interesting... for those wires alone, it seems like it would be fun to try and make hahah but sadly, you were right. i probably won't be able to do it since it would require time to make a solid fueling system and to code it; time which i don't have :/ if i ever do get around to working on it, it'll be a long time from now. maybe you can try using ic2 or something? this mod was actually partly intended to complement mods with electricity-powered lights
lol thats awesome, I would assume the dynamic lighting built in is compadible with atomicstrykers atomic lighting? I dont know if yours supports it or simply only your own stuff.
lol thats awesome, I would assume the dynamic lighting built in is compadible with atomicstrykers atomic lighting? I dont know if yours supports it or simply only your own stuff.
it's compatible i only added it because dynamic lights didn't work with these torches due to an id thing. if you want to use as's dynamic lights with this mod, just shut off the light for torches in his mod. my mod only lights up torches and lanterns, so for lighting with other items, use his mod

Wow, awesome idea you had bdogs !
It can be perhaps replaced with some redstone wiring mod like redpower if it is updated ?
All we need is some redstone powered lanterns , that's all !

When I search for Bottled Fat, Lantern Oil, Animal Fat or Lantern Handle in the creative searching option they do not appear.
Also could you please change so that the Lantern with Handle is called Lantern with Handle instead of Lantern w/ Handle?
(Nothing important I just think that it would look better)
well wadaya know. it does look better as "with". lol. fixed the search thing uploading the new version in a bit
Bug Report:
When taking a lantern back from being placed or hung on a hook, it gives you the lantern without the handle, even if it had one
what version are you using? i thought i took care of that already. hmm...
edit: does it always happen or just sometimes?
edit: most likely it's because you updated from a version that had no separate handles yet so the data that says a lantern dropped should have a handle wasn't there yet (even if it's rendered with a handle). if that's the case, it shouldn't happen again once you place the lanterns back on

or to post the correct and whole crash log?? get the correct version of PCL. if you don't know which one it is, just download or redownload the latest version of both unlittorch and pcl. and make sure you read which version of mc it's for.
am i allowed to swear on mcforum?? posts like these are really testing my patience
Of corse it can be achieved in other mods but placing miles of blocks, blocks which hardly look like cables (who uses a cable that have 0,5 meter diameter to power a microwave oven?), in some remote area is not appealing, at least for me. Especially when you're in some naturally generated cave and placing them nicely would reqiure a lot of terraforming which takes time an resources.
Not to mention that there is already redstone lamp in vanilla so all you would need is s... load of red stone dust and a lever - no ic2, redpower or any other advanced high-tech mod. Red stone lamp that is almost as ugly as rs dust placed on floor
Imho this mod is great because it makes the game a little more challenging without bringing too much complexity. Too bad it won't be implemented but there's nothing I can do about that
Guess I'm left with placing glowstone blocks instead of torches and lanterns in every room that needs a constant and big light source. It feels like a cheating but oh well, it's somehow better than getting your base taken over by zombies and creepers.
You are right !
For sure " soft " cables are best , but if it is not possible to implement them ...
I' m thinking of a workaround : the fishpole in vanilla have a sort of cable when you use it, all we need is to use it in another way !
In the mod ropes+ it is used in the grappling hook, so is there a way to make it be used for feeding electric lanterns ?

fixed! sorry about that. didn't realize the new lantern recipes would affect the old torch ones. i'll upload the fix after i make sure the rest of the recipes are fine too. but that'll be in a day or two since i don't have much time now
edit: nevermind. it actually didn't take too long. uploaded now
yup, that's definitely because of the new lifespan thing. now you see why i released it as a beta first lol. i've been thinking about it and maybe making them one-use-only is enough of a challenge. so maybe i can do away with the new lifespan thing.
