it can allow you to (sort of(in the case of telephones, you can't really be there but you can almost be there)) cross insanely huge distances without much effort, uses a series of digits/symbols/characters to lock in on the destination you want to reach, it was a significant scientific advancement at the time it was came up with and there's probably quite a few more similarities to be drawn that i've missed as well.

i keep making the same mistake, i think "oh, i've given them a few months, surely it'll be fixed by now" THAT is why i seem to ALWAYS be angry to some of you, my advice is to get the lead out.
there were nice things here, until the mod author threw a tantrum.
I wonder if someone at Stargate B can see the rings locking in when the person at Stargate A sets the address. Be pretty ominous on multiplayer to suddenly hear your stargate begin activating.

to answer your question yes person b can see it activating and it is pretty scary since we have it on a pvp server dont let the wrong people get your gate address
I've not yet tried out the mod, but daaaaaaaaang, it looks excellent. Also, a slight suggestion for those of us who prefer a more show-accurate thing, would you be able to add an option in the config where the Stargates are only one-way like in the show? (I.e. you can go through, but to go back in without dying, you have to dial home.) I'm fine with the current options, I'm just a nit-picking fan. XD
Also, another suggestion would be to add the option for an Iris(Like how Earth's 2nd gate was given one), so then you could prevent folks in a Pvp server from breaching through. Also, I've not yet tested it out, but does blocking the other side currently lead to instant death like in the show? If so, that would be awesome!

Greetings!!! I love this mod and all it does, but I would very much like to add a couple more suggestions, if it's all right. First off, It would be awesome if mobs could go through the Stargate (Such as Creepers or Cows), because it could not only help out your own transportation, but the transportation of livestock.
Secondarily, would you be able to make this mod compatible with Micdoodle8's Galacticraft mod? He said you could look at his github repository here:

I have Mystcraft, Dimensional Doors, and DivineRPG, and the Stargates all work in those Dimensions, but with the Moon dimension, it gives the Stargate a lot of symbols and says it is an invalid dimension to travel to. I'm not any sort of coder myself, but after talking with micdoodle8, he said that his dimension is coded the same, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

I belive the naqueda generation is killing my map. If I go slow there is no issues but I can watch the console in MP and it just floods with rand generation of it. Also in sp I will also disconnect and get kicked out when it can't keep up with the render. It could be a conflict with my world having to much render but I never had an issue till this.
The mod works outstanding, But it acts as though it can't keep up with generation. Maybe add a config option to exclude generation or reduce the amount?
I have the same SMP server set up, however I don't run into any issues with naqadah generation. In fact it's quite fast in seeding the world.
Yeah I'm not sure at this point, I've tried actually removing it with no changes, Also tried xycraft but still lagged a lil. What forge version are you using?

i have a bit of a beef with how the stargates are powered. i am a hard core stargate fan and i know for a fact stargates do not run on naquadah nor do they have the internal components to maintain a naquadah reaction you need a separate reactor hooked up to the gate for naquadah power. normally they are powered by energy stored in the DHD it's self. in the absence of a DHD gates have been known to run on energy as powerful as a lightning bolt or as ghetto as hooking it up to a car battery "if you don't believe me watch the episode where they go back in time to the 1969 you'll see they actually use jumper cables to dial it. so lets face it if your going by cannon than stargates need no power from any source other than the DHD and can run on power as low as a 12 volt car battery. if your just adding this mechanic for balance sake than the gates should accept any energy given such as EU MJ Bluetricity or universal electricity. in all there is such a thing as balancing a game and than there is overbalancing. it already takes a crap ton of materials to craft these.
also ... no iris/force field...... your saying a greifer can just chuck a nuke at me and there is nothing i can do to stop it. serious abuse potential here.
don't get me wrong i like the mod it works quite well but your choice of naquadah for fuel while a DHD is present. strikes me as nothing more than a stopgap to keep hard core survivalists from complaining it is too easy and you shouldn't cater to those types as they ruin the game for causal players just look at Greg tech. also with the lack of an iris or other gate defenses anyone who knows your address can find your base and do serious harm.
so please if your going to make a stargate mod do it right and don't arbitrarily butcher cannon for some weird sense of balance. you might as well have luke's light saber run on diamonds or make a star trek mod where spock has large square ears.
either way you risk earning the ire or raging nerds.

Also I like the idea of being able to manually power and dial gates via other power sources. I would avoid MJ though because MJ is kinetic and AFAIK know the only kinetic part of the gates are the locking of the rings. They require electrical power to create feilds which open the wormhole. So ony EU, or bluetricity. Probably just only EU because almost all mods have an add-on generator that produces EU from its own power system.

All I was doing was speculating as to why the mod might work into the SG series on its own. I wasn't even disagreeing with you.
P.S. I have watched the shows allot SG, Atlantis, SGU, so I am familiar. I just dont pay enough attention to technobable to post a trolly know it all response about it on a modding forum.
Anyway ... back to your original argument, sure remove the naquadah power source, or make it like you said require one brick in a reactor. The gates themselves also make big booms. More to make me believe they are related to the Naquadah power sources.

Anyway I am all for accuracy but its fine the way it is and if you wan't to use technobable and sci-fi you can argue around for it in the cannon of the show.
Just like Star Trek, the writers invented all kinds of things they never got around to writing into the story or show... like tsuriops in the Next Gen. Same thing goes for Naquadah, leaving other authors room to expand on it.
I love SG-1. I love this mod so I post this. When the star gate locks in a chevron, the ring should go the opposite direction it was going. For example, if it is going clockwise then it should go counterclockwise after it locks.
