Anytime you melt-alloy two metals, you tend to get 'waste mass'. These are mass that are either burned off by the smelting process, (limestone) or discarded after the alloying process. While in the real world, materials leftover from smelting like tungsten are re-used or are valuable in their own right, in a virtual world like minecraft they are simply not considered useful, or are less than a 'nugget' (Or, in the case of the fantasy metals, perhaps they vaporised, returned to the nether, or were wasted in the 'magic' alloying process)
While this is true for ores, I was specifically mentioning ingots. An ingot has already been smelted. Three aluminium ingots are pure aluminium, a copper ingot is pure copper. If I melt them down and mix them, I should receive a 75%aluminium/25%copper alloy, four bars worth. There is nothing being lost, burned off or what have you here.
Note that I also never said that it must be made in the name of realism for the sake of realism. I said it would be something I personally would enjoy seeing, and that it is convenient from a cross-mod-compatibility standpoint. It's a suggestion that mDiyo can decide on as he sees fit. I'm just lobbying for my camp

Particularly in the case of aluminum brass the conversion makes sense. Aluminum is a very light (high volume for low weight) whereas real world aluminum bronze/aluminum brass is much more dense than aluminum, so in the process of making the alloy the total volume of the final product is less than the volume of the two metals that went into making it. So it would make sense that you can only get two ingots from 4 ingots because the alloying process condenses the metals that are alloyed.
(of course real world aluminum brass is also more complex elementally with the inclusion of zinc, and different material ratios)
On the other hand for 1 tin 3 copper for bronze resulting in 2 bronze? I don't understand the motivation for that one, it's been that way since IC first introduced it, for whatever reason, and it has just stayed that way, even though the volume of real world bronze that you can get from alloying copper and tin is only a tiny bit less than the original (depending on particulars) volumes of metal that are put into the melt.
As for the rationale in game? No idea, at least for bronze (1 tin +3 copper = 2 bronze) it's been that way since industrial-craft first introduced it, although if you use forestry without gregtech I think the conversion is 4 bronze.
The conversion rate for bronze is currently 3 copper + 1 tin = 3 bronze.
Streetwind: Conservation of mass has no place in this game. Need proof? Look at plank, chest, furnace, tool, or storage block recipes. Your OCD must kick in every time you play this game.
LloydGeorgePinchen: Turtles cannot "touch" or "activate" blocks. MFR integration was given to me before fruit pickers were made, and I won't be updating it.
jimlael3: Sure, I'll make it easier. Would you detail everything that you did, what was confusing, what worked, and why the book wasn't clear?
reenigne: If you use any mod with GregTech the conversion rate is 3 copper + 1 tin = 1 bronze
My solution to the whole bronze thing is to smelt my copper and tin separately in my smeltery, pour them into blocks or ingots and then combine them with forestry's recipe to get bronze, because it bugs the beejeezus out of me that using 4 ingots of tin and copper gives me less than 4 ingots of bronze. Wasteful! (and I won't touch Gregtech with a fifty foot mouse cord. In my opinion all that mod adds is making you have to grind, like in the more boring RPG's where you go out and walk in circles to kill stuff just to gain experience so you can continue with the story line. No fun!)
The conversion rate for bronze is currently 3 copper + 1 tin = 3 bronze.
reenigne: If you use any mod with GregTech the conversion rate is 3 copper + 1 tin = 1 bronze
And that is why I use your mod to make all of the bronze in my world.
I hadn't realized that it had been nerfed further in GT because I haven't used any other alloy processing but the smeltery since I started up my 1.5 world.
Was there a reason the Silver Ore berries got replaced? I mean XP isn't useful for Tinkers Construct either, or is there something planned for Tinkers that will use XP?
I'm just curious why they got replaced.
XP in Tinker's Construct doesn't exist. The 'End' in Tinker's Construct doesn't exist either.
Issue with the barricades - Dartcraft uses shaped crafting (2 force logs in first column) to make force sticks, the new barricades overwrites that recipe.

I wouldn't use Ic2 if I were you. It's outdated and stuff try looking up Thermal Expansion and other mods like that. In Tekkit and Feed the beast.

when I die, I still lose my xp levels, and when I go to the spot where I died, there's still some XP on the ground, but not enough to get back all the levels I had, so the config isn't working. or is perhaps "levels" not xp levels what I'm thinking of?
I have made one last update to 1.5.2 fixing the electric modifier bug. All should be well now. Unless otherwise noted, this is the last update for 1.5.2. I will be focusing on 1.6.2 from now on.
I am quite aware of the bugs in 1.6.2. IC2 compatibility is down the tubes, BC compatibility is worse, villagers have no texture, and all the things I just added from 1.5.2 are missing. The horror!
Armor has been started as well. It hasn't been started by me though... there are now two developers working on TConstruct. :3
whythisname: Essence has a planned use: Golems. Silver nuggets were supposed to be trade fodder for villagers, but they didn't work with the ore dictionary.
Argon_Bolt: I like the idea of an inverted redstone mode on the drawbride. Also comparator inputs, redstone-level sensitivity, and a few others.
They're supposed to place ladders right now, but it's not working. I'll go prod it later.
rxiv: Dartcraft makes sticks from logs?! And the logs are registered in the ore dictionary? I think you should take it up with them.
Naxza: I would definitely replace your Smeltery video with a new one.
gogogregor: Liquids should be bucket-able, but maybe that's bugged too.
sondrex76: Sounds like a lack of compatibility on Thaumcraft's end.

You need to make the Tool Forge before crafting a lumber axe. Look in the red book in game, it has details.

he was talking about not being able to make patterns in the stencil table. if he didnt mix up patterns with casts, then it might indeed be a bug.
also, i think you should still be able to rename things in the anvil.
