looks like an amazing mod! can't wait to try it out! but i do have a question. Cavemanfilms did a spotlight of this and, when he duplicated a rift, it did this screwed up herobrine villager thing. is that part of the mod, or is that just some goofyness that he edited in because that was reeeally screwed up.
A suggestion, when the player is transported to limbo from a dim pocket because of dying, either from falling into the void or from traps, allow the player to keep his items. This way, when he does get out of limbo, there's motivation to get back to his base without dying. Right now, you come out of limbo itemless, so going back to your base is a simple matter of committing suicide and respawning, in which case limbo might as well throw you back out of the portal you first used to get to the dim pocket. A small penalty, however, is losing all your exp levels.
Also, adding hostile mobs to the dim pockets might be a good idea, thus forcing the player to be well-prepared before entering a dim pocket, giving death in Limbo or one out of it a heavy penalty. Perhaps some sort of arena pitfall trap, making the player fall into an arena of a sort, surrounded with cells occupied by different mobs, custom or vanilla. A lever/pressure plate opens all cells, one of which contains an exit, while the others are randomly filled with chests and/or misc furniture. The player could then choose to dash for the exit, or kill all mobs to access the chests and potentially useful furniture safely.
One last thing, perhaps you could add a hostile mob to Limbo as well? One, to make Limbo more than a simple task of dashing through it to avoid the Monoliths' gazes. Two, to give the player a way to actually die in Limbo. It is then up to the player to allow himself to retain their items or lose them when they die in Limbo, through the config. Perhaps a Lost Soul mob, the remains of the countless others who were trapped in Limbo and lost their minds. Same model as the player, jet black with ghostly red eyes. Slightly faster than the player.
Thats all I have! This is a really good mod, singlehandedly persuaded me to get back into Minecraft just to try this out

What other mods are you running, because in the current version, I am not having any issues with losing my items (if you die in a Pocket Dimension, you don't lose you Items.), so it must be another mod that you are playing with that is causing you to loss your items when you Die in a Pocket Dimension/Limbo. But, yeah, the mod already features you not losing items...

you know, in actual lore about Limbo, it is a place between Death or dimensions, where there is no "life" or "death". Things in Limbo are actually Non-existent, not actually taking up space or time, existing beyond all forms or Reality. As such if something where to "die" in Limbo, said thing would no longer exist in any shape or form. As such, if you want to make a mob that kills the player in Limbo, it would also have to be able to delete the actual save to be actual Limbo.
So, how about we DON'Tadd any mobs that can kill the player in Limbo, ok? ;P

Hmm, I suspect its the death chest mod. My mistake, I didnt test properly before posting this. Ignore that suggestion then.

Hmmm, alright then, but I still feel its too easy to get out of Limbo, The monoliths cant do anything to you as long as you keep running past all of them. Perhaps replace the monoliths with wandering lost souls which spawn everywhere, but spawn near portals or Fabric of Reality lakes at a much higher rate?
Time for some lore!
Lost souls are the souls of previous adventurers or explorers who, in carelessly exploring strange new dimensions, have fallen into Limbo. Lost for centuries, they still seek ways back to the normal world, thus gather around portals or pockets of Fabric of Reality, but in their time spent in Limbo, they've lost their minds and thus their 'link' to the normal world, and cannot go back. Whenever they sense a new soul in Limbo who is still linked to the normal world, they are drawn to it, in hopes of somehow regaining their link. However, since it is still linked to the real world, it cannot truly cease to exist, and thus merely appear somewhere else in Limbo when touched. This frequently leads to more souls getting lost and going insane, thus the number of lost souls are never ending. They each hold a single torch, the only thing they've managed to cling onto from their previous possessions, as its light provides comfort in their madness, as well as the dark world of Limbo. When killed, they truly cease to exist, leaving only their torch behind to provide a measure of comfort to the next soul, lost or not, that comes along.

Except the Slaad...I'm pretty sure the Slaad call Limbo home.
Hmm, I suspect its the death chest mod. My mistake, I didnt test properly before posting this. Ignore that suggestion then.
Yeah, I am using the Death Chest mod also... Best thing to do when you are going to do into a DD Dungeon is to leave the chest at home (or put it in a backpack like I do.), or risk lossing you stuff... Same thing will happen with the Gravestone mod also, since it "saves" you inventory when you die, you tend to loss all your stuff in Limbo (mostly because most of the time you Die in a PD, it is to falling into the Void.).
I too am using Gravestones....and yeah...falling into the void will cause you to lose items because it'll save them in a grave way down on the void layer....if at all.
BTW...good point with the Slaad.... they are powerful planeswalkers.

Yeah, I actually stopped using the Gravestone mod once they added the Zombie Pets and such. :\ But yeah, you lose all the stuff because the Grave needs a block to spawn on, but there is no blocks in the void, so it will spawn, taking the inventory, in mid-air, then block update itself causing it to fall into the void (and thus, lost of all stuff.).

--- END ERROR REPORT 2ca94d8a ----------
Hey, I got this totally weird... I don't even know what to call it. But it's really freaking me out.
So, I spawned in a copy of a world, cuz I liked the seed, then, I went to this village and I found a dimensional door there, without the door part, that randomly spawns there... y'know, like normal.
Everything was all fine and dandy, so, I decided to walk in.
But as soon as I got in, something sorta... creepy/freaky/werid happened; I walked inside, and I found a hallway with a four-way intersection. Then, I began to travel to the right of me, where there was an iron dimensional door, but as soon as I turned, I began to see weird particle effects, like you'd get from the ender chest. Idk if this is part of your mod or not, either way, I'm really freakd out. Because that isn't the freaky part; as soon as I look over, I see an eye, and then, I hover over it, with my Damage Indicators, I see that it has a name. Called the "Monolith" my first initial thought was 2001 a space odyssey in Minecraft? How can this be?
So then, all of a sudden, as soon as I stare it down, the eye that is, creepy music starts to play that sounds a lot like 2001 a space odyssey, so, my question is, is this part of your mod, or not?
My other question is, what the is this ? Cuz I'm getting goosebumps, and man, they're not the usual kind that you would get with something creepy happening to cause them.
Thnkx if you reply,
Emily
Yeah, I actually stopped using the Gravestone mod once they added the Zombie Pets and such. :\ But yeah, you lose all the stuff because the Grave needs a block to spawn on, but there is no blocks in the void, so it will spawn, taking the inventory, in mid-air, then block update itself causing it to fall into the void (and thus, lost of all stuff.)

I was having a lot of trouble with that too...so I talked to NightKosh about it and he included an option to turn them off. So I did.

The Monoliths are the inhabitants of the space between spaces.... If you linger too long, they will grab you up and take you to Limbo where you will be forced to walk a long Groundhog day like path in order to find your way out.
Long story short....Beware the gaze of the Red Eye! And if the particles begin to grab at you...RUN!

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense.
Cuz one of my friends was saying it's probably part of the game cuz it happened to him too.
And I was on creative mode cuz i cheat whenever I go into the doors since I always get the trapped ones and they always send me to limbo, so, I do the smart thing and cheat
Which isn't really smart, but hey, at least I'm not sent to limbo.
In other words, this mod is epic! Def one of my faves, when will it be updated to 1.6?

That's a pretty cool story, bro. Wish I didn't spoil that type of stuff before I even installed the mod...
Those are Monoliths. While nobody is sure what they are, they are most likely the Guardians of the Dimensions. Keeping them safe and untouched until their masters come back. Or possibly, the creators of the dimensions themselves, unamused by your intrusion and theft.
In any case, they will stare you down and bombarded with dimensional particles, and rip you from wherever you might be. You never touch solid reality again, unless you find, and go through, a hole in reality to escape back to the Overworld. If that's not an option, rarely, you can find doors to another dungeon, and find your way to the surface from there.
Either way, while you shouldn't lose your possessions from this trip, you will come out who knows where in the overworld, and will have a long walk ahead of you to ever see home again.
Here's my theory. The Monoliths are the only immortal residents of Limbo, and...they're not malevolent. Really, they aren't. They are just utterly confused and entranced by a living human.
They do not breathe. Or move. They are black, motionless boxes. You are everything that they aren't. And they find you utterly fascinating.
And they want to show you to thier friends. Hence why they only teleport, never kill.
Sorry if I ruined your experience by making them friendly.

Limbo is a prison for otherworld beings.. who once lived in the dimensional areas but commited crimes and were sent to limbo.
later, the origional Race died out leaving their dimensions empty... or they migrated out.... And became the Endermen!
which would explain why the Endermen are so drawn to the Rifts... they want to go back home.
so i dunno if this has been asked, is there anyway to destroy a monolith? ... i acidently made one in my Pocket when i was building it (i grabbed the wrong egg and wasnt looking >.>)

Currently, Rossmallo is the only person that made any real breakthrough with the removal of Monoliths, and he does it by making them bump into the ceiling, bottling them up and releasing them in the Overworld (the despawn instantly), or by "eating" them.
Also, I looked up in the Skys of Limbo for the first time, and saw this:

Ok, this sucks, its just stuck, how do i bottle this cursed thing?
So, how about we DON'T add any mobs that can kill the player in Limbo, ok?
Well, the powerful Slaad can travel between Plains, so I really don't count them. :\
Edit:
Also, I was more going off the original concept of Limbo, not the D&D version.:\
Edit:
Got a crash to report.
Whenever a Familiar from the Familiars Mod goes through a Door/Rift, I get this crash...

Currently, Rossmallo is the only person that made any real breakthrough with the removal of Monoliths, and he does it by making them bump into the ceiling, bottling them up and releasing them in the Overworld (the despawn instantly), or by "eating" them.
Also, I looked up in the Skys of Limbo for the first time, and saw this:
ok, so time to catch me a monolith >.> and you didnt know? the bottom is a closed eye btw ... i know cuz i fell in the void XD
Thanks though
YAY! NVM! i waited long enough and it respawned ^.^ thank goodness for goffing off with webshots XD
