That's a bug many people have experienced I think right?
I assume your talking about the grass (and not the SMP problem). It might be a bug, but after "roaming" a couple different seeds for hours (flying, not walking), it was kind of a neat and unexpected find.
For the Forge version, I installed it on my server just to see how close it is to working, and it spawned the wasteland as a biome, and it looks pretty sick, so just thought I should announce that
First off, I've been playing with the Wasteland mod with the Last Days texture pack since the days of yore, right up until Wasteland became too out-of-date to be passable. The fact that it's back, now, has me too excited for words. However, since I have this overabundance of words here, I figure I'd best just put that excitement aside for a moment and speak:
This mod is great. It really is. It's perfect for my hadcore challenges, whereby I force myself to endure a life of survival in a harsh barren world alone, me against the mutants and robots and raiders. Just the mere fact that I've managed to survive three real-life days, now... even delving deep into an abandoned mineshaft (and coming away with melon seeds!) without getting myself killed... it's something to be proud of. This mod makes living feel like a real achievement.
That being said, I too have a few hopes for the future. Deserts and Oases are hopefully incoming soon... which will mean at the very least I can finally get myself some glass. I hope that it will be possible, with the resources found throughout the world, to eventually restore it somewhat to it's former glory. Even if I have to fill the damn lakes up with water myself... (which I've actually done, now... it's excellent for fishing)
Sand will mean actually being able to manufacture TNT... Glass... Bottles for making potions... these things are currently impossible without it. If it means making a Desert Wasteland biome, complete with pools of surface lava and hellish Death Cacti... so be it... but it's really quite important to have.
As for villages... well... I think villages are still important, and ought to spawn, because they also provide the player with some small bit of civilization. For a SSP guy like me, the ability to find a village and defend it from the hostility of the wastes is a big allure of the mod. I build my cities and villages for the NPCs... not myself... so it just feels wrong when the buildings are all empty and unused. Besides, barter and trade is a big part of the post-apocalyptic vibe, and to be lacking entirely sort've makes the whole thing feel dead and lifeless. Even if I survive... so what? There's nothing to do beyond setting myself up in a ruined tower, building a farm, and waiting to see what kills me first: A creeper or old age.
Villages (and by extension the capability of 'bringing the world back from the brink) provide an objective to surviving, other than simply for survival's sake. Because it's one thing to be alive... it's another thing entirely to have a reason to live.
To balance things out, why not have them spawn with no water and crops? They already spawn rarely enough that in many games on non-Wasteland worlds, I can't even find one... so putting them in exactly the same dire straits as I am would make the occasional stumbling across one much more meaningful on account of the possibility of trade and shelter amongst fellow survivors... rather than because 'Oh hey, sapling'.
As stated a few posts above, too, additional ruin types... small destroyed towns, cities... perhaps some with spawners in addition to chests, so as to reward players for the 'challenge' of scavenging in dangerous areas would certainly be a fine addition. Something to enhance the challenge of it all... something to make wandering through ruins a bit more intimidating and a little less like one-item grocery shopping.
All-in-all, though? The mod has made my week.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to scavenging this tower for books. If I can find just one chicken... I'm going to write myself a Wasteland Survival Guide.

Showing My Support! Great Work Deserves Great Appreciation!
Hey, I've got a bug to mention.... for some reason, instead of altering all the world to be a wasteland, it only seemed to change it to adding another biome with wasteland features. At first I thought the mod had straight not worked, I spawned in a forest next to a swamp, but on the other side of the swamp I found the promised wasteland of dirt.
Also the wasteland itself lists its biome as "(null)" according to f3, and I'm assuming this means it doesnt have a biome name. I think its this that made it react explosively with legendary beasts on startup (I'm an idiot though and didnt copy an error report) and makes it difficult to add biome-specific things from other mods to the wasteland.
Those bugs came from the hassle to get this mod to the current version of Minecraft I think, used to be the default biomes but grass and trees and everything were changed to dirt. Apparently the biome issue is being worked on.
Is it normal for me to encounter Wasteland biome in default world type?
No it is not normal, I've explored far and wide in multiple worlds in this version and found no errors like this. I've tried multiple techniques to try making this happen without turning the mod off and it just won't happen. There is one theory though... The only way for this to happen is if the world has been played without the wasteland mod installed, we can all accidentally do this. Or install another mod that overwrites what the wasteland mod does.
Recently I installed the Better World Generation 3 mod and in every world type there is a wasteland "biome", it's rather amusing. But wasteland type worlds are unaffected.
And another question. What is the biome ID for wasteland? I want to make a superflat wasteland.
I'm unsure what the ID is but I managed to make a superflat wasteland with Better World Generation 3 mod installed on top of this one, it was rather amusing.
Basically I made a flatworld like usual, dirt level 4 and removed the grass layer. The world generated as a flat wasteland with big dead trees and npc villages. Not come across any of the mod ruins though. I'm using this world to build some schematics for this mod.
So I don't know if SMP is working for anyone else but it doesn't seem to be working for me, I am running it with other mods but they work fine in singleplayer and I tried removing some to see if it would help, but it still wasn't working. I entered in WASTELAND under the world type in server properties, assuming that was the name of the wasteland world type, if its not maybe thats my problem, regardless whenever I try and generate a world in the server it spits out this error

Im also having the server generation problem, but all in all i love it.
also it would be cool if there was a config file, like to change how often trees span, ruins ect. but just kep doin what your doin and ill look forward to whatever you have planned!
Hey Frog! I've been a big fan of the mod for the longest, and was delighted to see it back for this version. I think I saw you asking for additional structures to be generated in the world, so I built some for you .
Wishing Well
Once a place where hopeful souls would cast spare change into in hopes of a divine favour, it's now just another part of survival. A really, really big part of survival, since it has water.
There's two variants of the well, one with water, one without. The one with water is to generate very, very rarely, while the one without is to generate more commonly, but not too commonly.
Carpeted Ruins
A single corner is all that remains of a once wonderfully carpetted(is that a word?) house. This is just me trying to add some variety to ruined houses, and to make wool available, for redstone creations and adding some decoration to a richer player's home.
These would generate slightly rarer than common house ruins. There would be multiple variants of these with different carpet colours, to add some variety to the world.
Wooden Desk
All that remains of of somebody's home or work. Did this desk belong to a stiff in a suit and tie, or a writer of wonderful literature? Either way, he's probably dead.
These would be generated semi-rarely. They're intended to be a quick little boost of wood, and a sobering reminder of what once was.
If there's interest, I'd be glad to upload the map these are built on for you.
I have fond memories of this mod, and now that I have a new PC I look forward to actually enjoying it at a decent framerate! Any estimate when it'll update to 1.5?

Hey, that was a good video... why remove?
Another mods are also used in the video but this video focus mainly on Wasteland mod.
Yea i would prefer to just have the terrain rather than lots of new additions.

Okie Dokie. Thanks for answering that for me!

i got the same thing in every normal world i generated.
