(No, not a shed of chickens. This mod is about chickens shedding their feathers.)
I'm certain I'm not the first person to think of this, and make no claims that this is an original idea. Full credit goes to the Vazkii for creating the code. He is fully aware of me distributing it, and permits it. Now, onto the mod.
This is a simple two-class mod that makes it so that chickens will shed a feather now and then. It also makes it so that upon death, they are guaranteed to drop at least one feather. Lastly, baby chickens will now also drop a single feather upon death.
Disclaimer: No virtual chickens were harmed in the making of this mod. Only during the testing process.
More info in the spoiler:
ChickenShed has several configurable options including 4 booleans (true or false) and 1 numerical input.
Configuration:
Booleans:
Is the mod disabled? (true or false)
Do baby chickens drop feathers on death? (true or false)
Do you want the mod to change feather drops upon killing a chicken? (true or false)
Is the shedding of a feather timed with the laying of an egg? (true or false)
Numerical Input:
Generally how long does it take for chickens to shed their feathers? Your input will have 6000 added to it, thus making the lowest possible at 6000 (half the time it takes for eggs to drop). The default input is 26000 (+6000 = 32000), which is twice as long as it takes for chickens to lay their eggs.
AdFoc.us links have been added to the MediaFire and MEGA links. Direct links are still available through the asterisks if you're evil (or just prefer direct download links).
This mod is open source. You are free to distribute this in your modpack(s) as long as Vazkii or myself are credited, and a link to this thread is provided on your modpack's page. It would also be nice if you told me about your modpack! Find the source on GithubLink Removed.

Good one, if you could shear the chickens like you do with sheeps it would be a great addon.
I can't imagine that plucking/shearing chickens would be a painless experience for chickens, which is the main reason it's resolved to them shedding naturally. Thank you for the idea though. Someone else could make said idea if they wanted to though. The only changes that I can see being made to this mod is feather-shedding timing tweaks or possibly a sound effect being played when a feather falls out... Maybe.
I know how to post images. There are images at the top of the page, after all. I just don't know how I can take pictures of this and have it be proof that the chicken is the one that actually dropped the feathers. It could easily just be a staged setup, you know? Unless I made an animated gif of it or something. Hmmm
Nice mod though, Between this and my chocobos I should never have to worry about feathers again! ...And my boyfriend won't have to mass-breed and mass-slaughter my chicken farms.

Ahhhhhhh I had to drop the Chocobos mod because of the feather everywhere.

Updated for 1.4.7. Added Configuration File. You may now configure a few things, such as feather drop rate.
EDIT: You may want to re-download. There was a bug that made the configuration for the average time for feathers to drop not count, thus only counting the minimum of 6000 (too fast unless that's how you wanted it)
When I click on your bitly link (Link Removed) I am redirected to a file with version "1.4.7" in the file name. Is that just a typo and it is really the version for 1.5, or has the link been mixed up?

It just seems a bit ridiculous to actually be required to kill a chicken for some feathers you're not even guaranteed to get, you know?
Especially as birds shed feathers in real life!
Awesome Mod
