Is it still possible to configure range in 1.7.2-3.0.0?
I have changed Scenter.cfg as follows:
# Configuration file
general {
# Do NOT manually change this value
S:version=1.7.2-3.0.0
S:detectionRange=3x3
}
but it still detects blocks 60 blocks away.
I just have tried it and it works as expected.
Did you take into account that a distance of 60 blocks is possible for 3x3 detection range if you are many blocks above or below the target?
EDIT: Just saw that you are talking about Scenter 3.0.0. In this case my answer is NO. The detection range can be configured for Scenter 3.1+. But my answer above applies here also, since the hard coded detection range in Scenter 3.0.0 is 3x3. Just to make it clear: 3x3 means 3x3 chunks, where each chunk is a 3-dimensional part of the world containing 16x16x256 blocks.
Although I think this mod is slightly broken, I like it and I'm going to use it in my modpack. An idea is that you have to find a scenter item in order to scent out ores, and when it's in your inventory, you can scent out ores.

Not to be rude, but isn't the whole point of the mod is to help you find ores.... Not make you search for it in order for you to find it? Just a random thought you know. It would be ruining the purpose of the mod.

I know, but still, it seems kind of easy.. for me, at least. maybe it could be a config option that's default is off (That you don't require the item in order to scent), or you can only scent within 2 chunks until you get the item, which again, is a config option that's turned on by default, and the more Scenter items you get, the farther you can scent objects.

Hi, I'm using Minecraft 1.7.10, Forge 10.13.0.1208, and Scenter 3.2.0 with GalactiCraft 3.0.4.
While trying to edit the Scenter target list, I found that some of the ores from the GalactiCraft (Aluminum, Tin, Copper, and Silicon) don't show up in the fml-client-lastest.log file.
I want to add tin_ore but it doesn't work. Do someone could help me please.
Blocks created by a Mod may not ever work.
I removed a bunch of ores and added mossy_cobblestone.
"C:\Documents and Settings\NotYourBusiness\Application Data\.minecraft\config" (I'm on an XP, anything else probably contains a roaming somewhere).
"Scenter3.targets.cfg"
## Each line adds one target to Scenter.
## A target definition consists of one ore more blocks and an optional color (for tinting the particle trail).
##
## The line format is:
## []
## where is [, ] ...
## and where is [/]
##
## Example 1:
## obsidian 000000
## adds a target for obsidian, with a black (000000) particle trail color
## Example 2:
## lava, flowing_lava FF0000
## adds a target for lava and flowing lava, with a red (FF0000) particle trail color
## Example 3:
## wool/14, wool/4, wool/6 FFFFFF
## adds a target for red (/14), yellow (/4), and pink (/6) wool, with a white (FFFFFF) particle trail color

I tried but could NOT get a spoiler to work.
from my understanding, the Scenter targets that get set are from the fml-client-latest.log file.
The list of "Registered Blocks" can be found by playing any minecraft world, activate the scenter, then save and quit with it still activated, open the file fml-client-latest.log and look for the line "[mickkay.scenter.ScenterMod/Scenter]: These blocks are registered:"
From what i can tell, this list that is underneath this line of code are block names that the scenter uses to find the block. It doesn't seem to be able to find dropable items such as ingots and gems themselves when just laying around, but all "placable" block are on the list, even from the galacticraft mod.
for example:
[22:13:49] [Client thread/INFO] [mickkay.scenter.ScenterMod/Scenter]: These blocks are registered:
FLabsBF:flabs.bf
GalacticraftCore:slabGCDouble
GalacticraftCore:slabGCHalf
GalacticraftCore:tile.airLockFrame
GalacticraftCore:tile.airLockSeal
GalacticraftCore:tile.aluminumWire
GalacticraftCore:tile.arclamp
GalacticraftCore:tile.breatheableAir
....
GalacticraftMars:tile.treasureT3
GalacticraftMars:tile.walkway
GalacticraftMars:tile.walkwayOxygenPipe
GalacticraftMars:tile.walkwayWire
acacia_stairs
activator_rail
air
anvil
beacon
bed
bedrock
That is what I see in my fml-client-latest.log file, and about where i get lost. is there a command i can put in to allow the galacticraft ores to be found by the scenter, or where could i possible look for the block name so i can probably try a command like "GalacticraftCore:tile.aluminumBlock"

I fear you misunderstood page 1, post 1, of this thread. And it seems you didn't read anything before you made your post!
The 2 posts directly above yours explain where to add blocks. I doubt Scenter will satisfactorily find any items. Mod created blocksmay not be detectable as well.
ok so i added the Yellorite Ore from the big reactors mod. when i cycle through the ores to look for it shows "Yellorite Ore ---"
so my question is, does the "---" mean it is not going to EVER find any or just that there is none in range?
Yes if if says "Yellorite Ore ---" and you correctly added the ore there is none within range. Use WEWrapper to create some Yellorite or maybe TMI/NEI and test it.
Now I have a question for MickKay.
In the Scenter.cfg are these lines.
general {
# The number of chunks that are searched by Scenter. Valid values are 1, 3x3, 5x5, 7x7, 9x9, 11x11.
S:detectionRange=5x5
What happens when I increase the S:detectionRange? I've bumped it up to 5x5, What is the effect if I increase it further? Will it eventually cause lag?
A second request, can you make the start/stop keys select-able? I'd like to change them from O & L.
TIA
Lou
We have to wait until there is a Minecraft Forge for 1.8....

Fairly certain Scenter says to use Forge 1.7.10-10.13.1180. It does work for me, with that version of Forge!
