nice, that's actually really cool. A nice addition would be if you would change the sparkles to correspond with the type of ore, for example, if i'm looking for coal, it should be black, but if I'm looking for redstone, it should be red.
I have added this feature to Scenter 2.0.0. which is available for download since today.
This ,mod is awesome for singleplayer at least. Have not tried multiplayer yet, probably won't (cheating). I it possible to add more ores on your own? Because i have mods and would like to find the even mor rare than daimonds in DivineRPG (arlemite/rupies/saphires). If i could ajust myself it would be awesome! Thanks for your efforts
Yes, you can add more ores on your own (see the 'How to Configure' section in the thread's head positing).
At least if you know the blocks ID values.
You need to find a block ID list for DivineRPG...
Works fine for every blockID/metaID if the metaID is 0.
Any metaID higher than 0 shows as added by the logs, but didn't show up ingame.
Thank you for your help.
I did some further changes to the code. The initialization is now executed when you press 'O' the very first time during gameplay. This is the latest moment to do it. All blocks from 3rd-party mods should have been registered until now. You can download the development release here.
With this release I can't reproduce the error any more. Any blockID/metaID combination I tried works fine.
For example I added the following lines to Scenter.targets.cfg.
2001/0 # Copper Ore
2001/1 # Tin Ore
2001/2 # Silver Ore
2001/3 # Lead Ore
2001/4 # Ferrous Ore
During gameplay these ores were added to the Scenter and they could be found successfully.
Anyway, I created a small utility mod that can list all 4096 block IDs and shows if they are used and what name they have. Please download the ListBlockIDs mod and place it into your mods folder. To show the ID list during gameplay just press 'i'. If your block IDs are not shown here they are not loaded into Minecraft. That means that Scenter can not find them either.
After converting the config to the new format (one line per blockID/meta/ID)
every ore shows up perfect. Thank you Sir.
The ListBlockIDs mod is also perfect and real usefull.
Good news!
I will publish the fix with the next release then.
But I am sure that the multi-block target definition (taken from your config some postings above) should work also:
2001/0, 2001/1, 2001/2, 2001/3, 2001/4 # multi-block target for Copper, Tin, Silver, Lead, and Ferrous
You just have to be aware of the fact that there is a difference between the single-block and the multi-block target definition!
If a single-block target is activated then Scenter searches the environment for the nearest occurrence of blocks with exactly that ID.
If a multi-block target is activated then Scenter searches the environment for any of those IDs and marks the trail to the nearest one found.
I'll try to make that clearer in the "How to configure" section.
Fixed: some 3rd-party block IDs couldn't be found.
Scenter now reads its config file not until it is activated (by pressing 'O') during gameplay. This makes sure that all mods have successfully finished registering their blocks, and Scenter can find them.
U have to add mod blocks manually to the "scenter.targets" config file.
it works with FTB DW20 pack. use color picker http://www.colorpicker.com/to get colors for them.
I know this, but would it work with DivineRPG blocks, and/or Jerry Mod blocks?
Never mind, it works perfectly.
I'll be quiet now, thanks.
Umm... not sure if anyone asked this, but I just want to know if it will be getting ported to 1.5 or not? (Not WHEN, but IF, it will be updated or not.) I'm patient and don't mind waiting.
really nice mod, i love it. but what i want to know is how can i configure it to locate ores from other mods?
You can locate ores from other mods by adding the respective block IDs into the Scenter configuration file. For more information please see the 'How to Configure' section in this thread's head positing.

Well, nobody has asked so far...
But of course i will port Scenter to Minecraft 1.5.x.
I'll see if I can find some free hours during the next week to get it done.

I just released Scenter 2.1.0 which is compatiple with Minecraft 1.5.1.
Cool, but maybe something to make it less OP, like making it only work when your hunger is full/having a cost. EDIT: Make it require atleast one of the certain item to be able to scent it out.

I really, REALLY like this mod and the way it works. Reminds me of the treasure potions from Terraria. Would love a version where the ability was acquired by some sort of potion/enchantment, maybe using spider eyes combined with other stuff or something for potions. No idea how hard that would be or what would be required to do so. Either way, very nice job.

Just look up the block ID.
Then add it to the Scenter configuration file.
If you use Scenter 1.0.1 or 1.0.2, edit the file "Scenter.cfg":
Add
into a new line inside the "blocks" section.
If you use Scenter 2.0.0 (or above), edit the file "Scenter.targets.cfg":
Append a new line to the end of the file:
This adds Obsidian (having block ID 49) as a new target with a black particle trail (000000=HEX color code for black color) to Scenter.
For more info about how to configure Scenter see this thread's head posting, section "How to configure".
I have added this feature to Scenter 2.0.0. which is available for download since today.
Thank you for suggesting this.

I just tested it again with version 2.0.0.
It works fine for me.
For example, I added the following line to the file "Scenter.targets.cfg".
Can you try this?
And please make sure that "Scenter.cfg" is empty.
If it still doesn't work, please post your "Scenter.targets.cfg" here.
What's your Minecraft version?
What Forge version?
Which mods (& version) have you installed?
If I know I can try to check it.
I guess I fixed it.
I checked it with Sulfur Ore (ID:458) which didn't work in Scenter 2.0.0.
Can you please verify that it works for you now?
You can download the development release here.
Cheers,
Mick
