Wondering, could you make an elevator block that actually has an infinute storage of chains and eats them as it goes up, and spits them back out as you go down? Just so you can have large platforms to desend down, without having to have the chain there when it is fully up. You could also give it an internal storage of chains, and make it so you have to put them in. You would have to not allow the bore function though for this different type of elevator.

The new "Pulley" block will have the chain storage. Pulleys will move Elevators and Elevators gates up and down with a redstone source.

Pulleys will be able to store 4 stacks of Iron Chains.

I really like the looks of this mod. I have downloaded it and will be giving it a try but, I do have one suggestion from watching the Spotlights that you have on page for the mod. It would be awesome to see the elevator block be able to use redstone signals or something .. Rather then having to spam the block itself with your hand, maybe be able to use a redstone repeater in order to spam the block with a signal that will basically automate the elevator.

I used to use a mod that seems to have died now.. Awesome Elevators I believe the name was.. anyway.. you crafted 4 elevator pads with diamond and iron ingots and was able to place them like this one, as in the ability to place them in any shape or size as long as they were connected and then right click the pad to get it to auto move to the designated floors.. It auto deteceted floors depending on the material that you selected to be considered a floor and you could craft buttons that would call the elevator to the floor that you were on if it was not already there..... Ie., you are at the bottom of your mine shaft and die for some reason then spawn at your bed. you go back to the top of your mine shaft and click the button and wait while the elevator came back up. It was an awesome mod but seems to have been abandonded by the modder.. ...

Anyway.. I would love to see some of those abilities with this mod as well.. Thanks for your hard work with this mod and keep up the great work.

I am running into a problem. After so many uses, my threaders no longer work. They are in the ready position, but when I use it, it just.... doesn't make it. It swaps to the resting position for a split second, then swaps back, not using the ignot or making the wire.

Really sucks.

Hmm... I'll check into it. Till then just grab the block and place it again.

The Iron Chain Pulley storing capacity and texture is finished. Just have to place it in action with the Iron Chain Elevator Gate and Iron Chain Elevator.

The Iron Chain Elevator gate so far can move up with 2 block limit (Still looking for bugs before more layers are added).


Over all its closer to finished then not. I just been sick lately which has slowed my coding greatly. ~_~

I found a bug/incompatability with railcraft and standard track pieces, not sure if you intended this to even work with minecarts on it as I haven't tried that yet. I took some screenshots to show:

I lay down some track pieces and everything is fine before the elevator moves:


Move up one block and the standard track becomes sloped, something I didn't even think of when I tried it. The railcraft pieces also get weird, but I'm assuming that has soemthing to do with that mod.


Move up another and the sloped rail beside the elevator breaks:


Just figured I would post this in case it hadn't been found out yet. I guess track could just be laid every time around, but I decided to go with chests anyways.

More likely it is vanilla mine track mechanics. You could always use a piece of his rail that doesn't need a block under it there, and that "should" work.

Yea, that seems to be vanilla track behavior, don't see how that's a bug.

A possible solution to that track behavior might be to make a new track block that doesn't connect to itself, but does to other types of track. Not sure how hard that would be to code, but would prevent the problem caused by the elevator up making the track change.

Amazing work. Also, might I suggest adding a way to call elevators to one end of the track, so for example, you could do something like this?

Just remove the rail adjacent to the elevator, stop one block above the ground, and put a booster rail so the cart jumps the small gap onto the rails.

I found some bugs. One is that when you break placed chains they drop chain blocks instead of chains and those chain blocks can be placed anywhere.

The other one is that when you move an elevator too fast it makes it so that you can't move stuff (ie levers), you cannot pick up drops, you cannot use items but you can place them, and when you save and quit minecraft freezes at the shutting down internal server screen. It seems to only happen in the Twilight Forest Dimension. Maybe you need to add better compatibility with this mod and the Twilight Forest mod.

thanks for the report, twilight forest dimension should not effect anything. (or any dimension in fact). However I'll take a close look.

Thanks! Here's another note. This happened with an elevator I made out of Nether Brick and it's dimensions are 5X5X5.

I've got two ideas for chain weapons. One being a long chain whip with a sharp point at the end. The other one is a ball and chain that you swing and throw at enemies with. I was thinking it could look something like this:



But with a longer chain and it can be pulled back after it is thrown, kind of how the fishing rod works in minecraft.

Hey Jade had an idea for a simple but nice item you could add to this, basically it's a chain lever. You know like those chains you see ceiling fans and lights where you pull it to turn it on and off? Basically that as an alternate to levers. You click the chain and it turns on a red stone signal, click it again and it turns it off. Simple, but could have some fun an aesthetically pleasing uses.

Sounds like a good idea
