My mod, the Rainbow XP mod, changes the colours of the xp orbs into a randomized colour. This allows for the colours of the orbs to be different from the ordinary puke green colour that I'm sure you're sick of. It's quite a simple mod but it does make the game look a lot prettier. The orbs also glow slightly to make it aesthetically pleasing.
A video I made quickly demonstrating it:
It generates the colours by randomizing a number between 1 and 100. If the number is below 93 it will choose a "preset" colour and slightly randomize the values of that colour (so one green might be more green than another and another green might be slightly more blue than another). If the number before was above 92 it will generate a completely random colour using some quick formula I wrote to lower the chances of it generating a black or white colour,It edits the EntityXpOrb and RenderXpOrb class files, so if you have another mod that for some reason edits them then it won't work.
To install it just follow the steps below:
Locate your .minecraft/bin/versions folder.
Open the folder containing the version of minecraft you downloaded the mod for (1.6.2). Once in there open your minecraft.jar with a compression program such as bandizip or winrar.
Delete the META-INF folder.
Copy the classes from the mod zip into the minecraft.jar.
Launch Minecraft.
Enjoy... or sue me. Which ever one you feel like at the time.
A Newcomer to commentating. Mine aren't top notch yet, but I think I do a pretty good jeb. Sometimes my vides are jonk and a carn fest. My name isn't Kris or Marc IRL, it's Top Secret. I had a few YT accounts b4, but they were junk. That is all.
I got an idea, how about an option to turn it on/off and edit colors. Also an option so certain XP colors for different mobs. (Green for zombies, Red for Magma Cubes, ext.)
Also is this Client side and does it edit an base classes?
Also, very nice mod
What about giving it a shimmer of the colour the orb has? There is a new part in the particles.png in the game since 1.4.6 what is big, white and is used if you make fireworks (coloured) it creates a big shimmer in the explosion. Here a example:
I think I understand what you're saying. I'll look into but I don't think I'll add it.

Thanks. Great idea, I might implement it later. It is only client side and edits 2 base classes.
Just tried it with forge then and it works and yes it's client side only. If you go on a server, only you will see the xp coloured.
It may not disrupt anything when using it with forge, but forge does not load the mod. Myself and the people I play with won't be doing any jar editing. So we won't be able to use it until you make it work with forge (loaded as a forge mod by forge, not just work along side it).

Thanks anyway.
Ahh I see now, sorry about that.
I might recode it using forge in the future,
What an amazing mod, but it is a shame that you edit base classes. when i mod my client i tend to avoid mods that edit base classes. I know that pain of trying to edit things in the game without base classes so i cant really blame you :/

For Minecraft 1.7.4: http://www.mediafire.com/download/57u43osxsh7179y/Rainbow XP for 1.7.4.zip
This is the best mod I've ever seen. Fantastic. Great.
1. Is it forge compatible?
2. Is it clientside only?

It edits the EntityXpOrb and RenderXpOrb class files (or the bbw and laz class files in other words).
