Will there be a way to obtain some of these saplings through leaf drops through unique leaves?
Probably not. Unless the community convinces me otherwise, I don't plan to add any unique leaves. The main reason is that I prefer not to have any custom blocks in world generation. Also, the nether requirement was intentional. I wanted the saplings to be difficult to obtain and not farmable. Even if a sequoia took 9 saplings to grow, a single one drops almost a stack of saplings from cutting it down.
Some vanilla biomes are disabled because they are very similar to ones I added. For example, meadow "replaces" plains. I wanted to avoid having too many redundant biomes, but still allow people to add them back if they wanted to. On default worlds, all vanilla biomes will generate even if they are disabled in the config.
Also, good idea on making it more compatible out of the box. I will change the biome id's next update. However if you already have a world on this version of Highlands, they'll be messed up. I will probably provide a compatibility settings file that doesn't change the biome id's as well.
Hmmm you looked with F3 and it said valley? The mixed forest and valley biomes use identical generators, you might have had that. If not, what biome (name and id) was it generating in?
yes, the f3 display said valley, there were quite a few biomes around it so not too sure which one it was 'in'. Doesnt matter though, I like this mod so much Ive decided to use it on its own without any other biome mods. One thing thats great about it other than the amazing vistas, is that it appears to already be compatible with a lot of mods that add stuff like trees and structures. Ive seen quite a few IC2 and thaumcraft3 trees not to mention stuff from the Ruins mod. Also, did you do something to affect cave generation because they definitely seem more epic than usual. like a mini nether of stone:
Ok guys, this mod is seriously amazing and deserves more attention. Ive tried the other two big biome mods and while they do add a lot of variety, for the most part the landscape is the same as you'd see in any other biome but with different trees and other details. This mod generates maps that look anything but random, as if they were custom made. It adds incredible mountain ranges that appear to try and reach out to one another creating land bridges that just beg to be built upon. The flat tops on the mountains also give a great place to build a base with a view to die for, the subbiomes ensures that there will always be surprises even when in the midst of a single giant biome. Playing Highlands as it was intended to be played with no other biome mods creates some of the most rugged and perilous terrain Ive ever seen in minecraft. This is by far, the best biome mod Ive played.

Thank you so much. Is it okay if I put this quote in the OP?
Also, by the way, this mod doesn't touch the cave generator (or at least, I didn't write any code for the purpose of changing the cave generator). You got lucky, or it might be in one of your other mods.
Things that make this mod better than any other biome mod:
1. No custom blocks which disappear after you deinstall the mod, making the biome look ugly
2. Sub-Biomes (which I haven't seen in any other biome mod yet)
3. Custom Trees (which only use vanilla blocks as well)
4. Craftable saplings for the new tree types (which is really useful if you want to have the new trees in an old world and you don't want to explore for hours just to chop new trees down in order to get them)
5. Custom ore generation per biome (which makes players look for specific biomes and explore more)
So all that makes this purely amazing and if any biome mod will ever get added to the vanilla game, then it deserves to be this one.

You're welcome and sure you can. Thank you for the awesome mod. As for the caves maybe I did, I ran into a lot of double ravines.
*edit* I thought I might make a mob spawn control configuration for this mod, but I know from prior experience with it that it takes a lot of patience and doesnt really even work all that well especially with mocreatures. Not to mention that any new mob mods added after the fact wont be registered even in vanilla biomes. Plus I like a mod called Dungeon Mobs which add monsters that only spawn deep underground and MSC messes it up. So Im curious, is there a way to script it so that your biomes looks at similar vanilla biomes and creates the same spawn rates?

Absolutely agreed especially with the thing about it deserving to be added to vanilla, that was my initial thought too.
Ever felt bored with the endless flat lands of Minecraft? Ever wanted an incentive to make bases and mines in every biome rather than just collect some unique renewable resources and move on? Ever wanted to explore an amazing new world? Then Highlands is your answer.
Features:
26 new biomes
10 new tree types
Highlands and Highlands Large Biomes World Types
biome-specific ore generation (some biomes have more ores!)
All trees can be grown with saplings and bonemeal
More mountainous terrain
Mountains, lakes, and valleys
Villages in more biomes
Forge compatible
To Install:
You must have Forge installed first. Download this mod with the link above and place the zip file in the "mods" folder. Highlands will generate a settings file the first time you run Minecraft. If you are upgrading from an older version, make sure to delete your old HighlandsSettings.txt file first.
If you get an error:
Please post your error log and a list of the mods you have installed. Without these I won't be able to help you as well. If you get stuck on "Converting World" please also tell me your operating system and if you use the default Minecraft launcher, Magic Launcher, or MultiMC because this error is very platform-specific.

As for improving Mo' Creatures compatibility:
I looked at the possibility of copying similar default biomes' mob spawn lists, but the code of vanilla minecraft makes it messy to get to them. I'll work on it some more and maybe I can get it working. I agree that Mob Spawn Controls is tedious at best and probably won't ever work as well as actual compatibility. I'm confused as to exactly how Mo' Creatures handles its spawn lists, especially for water creatures, so that might take time consuming trial and error.
It's difficult but not impossible. It might be coming in the next update, but I'm not sure.

Theres always the alternative, "Project Zulu" which has a "mobbiomeconfig" with options to spawn its mobs in whatever biome you choose even highlands biomes. Works great, wish all mob mods did that. Id post my config but its too long.
i love this soooo much but i think to make even better add some new mobs for the separate biomes like lions, monkeys, or zebras.
i've got alot more more mobs in my mind though.
I won't be adding any mobs. If you want, you can use Mo' Creatures, Project Zulu, Dungeon Mobs, or another mod that adds mobs. As I said earlier, I'm working on making Highlands more compatible with Mo' Creatures. Dungeon Mobs is compatible right now.
I like the palm tree suggestion. I will improve palm trees next update. The dull brown color of TSAMP's palm tree is because it's in a desert, and deserts make all trees that use oak or jungle leaves brown. Put it in a jungle and it will be bright green.
What is the problem with the branches, exactly? I know that many of the trees have issues when generating from saplings but usually you can log out and log back in and it will be fixed.
"That's a very nice mod you have there! It would be a shame if anything were to happen to it..." Runs up to creeper and kills with diamond sword.
AWESOME BIOME MOD! I like the realism it adds to the game so it fits in very well with mods like http://www.minecraft...upport-is-back/ that add realistic mobs to the overworld. If you are planning on adding more biomes could you add a biome thats either a very green plains with ferns instead of grass and/or the same idea with a forest? Way better than the other big biome mods!
The log thingy is that the branches on your trees (not the trunk) generate facing up/down instead of sideways.
This is an amazing biome mod. I was using Biomes O' Plenty, but I can honestly say this blows it out of the water. Even in the best of my vanilla or BOP worlds, I never found anything approaching the kind of landforms I find regularly in this. Might as well throw out a few promotional pics to go along with this
A nice valley I found...
A stone arch and lagoon...
And the view directly behind from the arch! Thank you for this mod, sir or madam, it is beautiful.

I just mean the texture on the tree branches face sideways on vanilla trees nowadays so it kinda stands out that yours are the old fashioned way. No big deal though, I absolutely love this mod. its amazing.
Here are a few pics of my own. each of these places is within walking distance of the spawn by the way, its an incredible world that ive only explored a tiny portion of,

Oh and one other thing about trees is that the branches dont go sideways like they should, would be nice if you could fix that too.
