so... Despite all this bickering and back and fourth... Is anybody actually DOING ANYTHING?... Cause I'm starting to get Incredibly bored without long distance logistics networks.
so I say this, Whatever port you bring it into is fine with em, Heck, I wouldn'tmind testing it out, seeing what could be fixed or improved on.. After all Train craft won't die in what ever port we do it in, it'll only die if we never do it.. Nuff said.
Depends on what one you are talking about. If you mean this one https://github.com/canitzp/Traincraft , there is both 1.8 and 1.7.10 code, but it has not been touched in 3 months and is a long way from a complete mod. If you mean this https://github.com/Mrbrutal/Traincraft-5 , it's the start of an unneeded rewrite. There's even less there than the other one. The only github repo that has enough code for a complete mod is this one, the 1.6.4 repo: https://github.com/Mrbrutal/Traincraft-164 which will not work for 1.7.10
There is also this: https://github.com/xenoswift/puretrainport/tree/1-7-10 which may or may not end up as a Traincraft port. I really don't know. The current goal of the project isn't compatible with the Traincraft license, so it's hard to say.
There is a train mod of sorts in development for 1.8.9, but it won't be a Traincraft port. Instead it will be a completely different mod.
So, no, there isn't anything for 1.7.10 ready to build and use.
Why we don't have a pin-function? Would be nice
This is it. I don't think that Canitzp will work again on this and he is a beginner on java developement so... we don't talk about this
The pure-trainport is something that might is okay for the community but the license... and if this is just a "copy" of Traincraft, why 1.7.10?
And then we have something really exiting in 1.8.9. Some new Train-Mod that's working just better from the start. There is nothing much to show about this because we are talking about an alpha 0.1. Don't expect this to soon.
But instead of asking all the time, why the heck are people don't use the search function of the forum?!
Majority of the time a search isn't even needed on this thread because the question was already answered on the same page just 1 or 2 posts up. It's gotten to the point where just answering the same question over and over has taken up more time than it would to port the mod to 1.7.10
Well just a heads up incase people havent noticed, Forge 1.9 is just out work can begin and most likely a follow up when 1.9.1/1.9.2 comes out in 1 week or so.
Well just a heads up incase people havent noticed, Forge 1.9 is just out work can begin and most likely a follow up when 1.9.1/1.9.2 comes out in 1 week or so.
Oh boy considering how buggy 1.9 is without mods... 1.9 is a bad version for anything if you ask me let alone mods
to any potential experienced coders out there who is interested in doing a port, concurrently im actively trying to port 1.6.4 over to 1.9 and above directly, now im not that experienced but id like to recruit some help,as my knowledge of java is a bit shallow please bear with me.
concurrently im having a little issue understanding how 2 mods and especially 1 of them(railcraft) api works in tandem, because railcraft as of now is only limited to 1.7.10 with 1.8/1.9 in the works according to covertjaguar.what im seeing is errors across the traincraft code which uses some of railcraft's api, does it mean that we might have to omit railcraft's api for now?
please pm me if you happen to have taken a look at the 1.6.4 code and know what to do in regards of several mods thats suppose to work with traincraft, mainly industrialcraft and railcraft.
Lol whats the point of 1.9 with no other mods to play with?
That's like saying "what's the point of playing minecraft without anyone else to play with?". just because there aren't many mods updated to 1.9 yet doesn't mean there's no point to it. it's rude and inconsiderate.
back on topic, hopefully anyone who is helping out with coding the mod is doing well and it's all going good. any releases are always welcomed by (mostly) everyone and any progress is always appreciated.

Wow excuse me for saying my opinion... Traincraft is fun, but I Like to play with OTHER mods aswell... you should know you got your own modpack and stuff so playing with one mod gets boring after a while.....

Lachei, it's not that he's saying you're not allowed to have an opinion, it's that your opinion itself is flawed at a base level. I'm with you on that playing with one mod gets boring after a while, it's why I am and probably will stay on 1.7.10 unless the 100 mods I'm using update to more current versions give or take a few I could cut. HOWEVER (and this is what I believe the further point InuYasha was attempting to get across) the ONLY way this would ever happen is if mods DO progress. If mods never progress, then other modders may see no point in progressing themselves, possibly starting a chain of non-progression. But if all mods show some initiative, then it is more likely that more modders will hop on the "progressive" bandwagon and keep pushing forward. Yes, Minecraft is fun to play alone, as I myself do since I have a large mod repository for my own game, but there are many (again as InuYasha said) that much prefer playing with other people over having more mods, as Minecraft tends to be (with exceptions) a game that is almost COMPLETELY community driven, which is reflected in almost every aspect from servers, to large builds, to mods as well. And for community driven individuals, which it is my guess that many modders are since they put SO much effort and time into building something for the community to enjoy and share, the more people that are putting in effort towards a single goal, the more effort each individual is likely to put in, thus again circling around to that in order for mods to advance at a hardworking pace, then some want to see more and more mods advancing in the first place. In the minecraft world, its pretty simple in every way: Progress begets progress. And at the end of the day, nobody's stopping you from playing an older version and enjoying the game the way YOU want to enjoy, he's just saying to let other people enjoy it the way THEY want to enjoy it

That's a really good point. And I don't know why people are always talking about "I want to play this mod with other mods or never". Guys, really. Yes, there are many cool mods out there, that aren't updated to 1.8 and above now and many of them never will, but do you want to stay always at 1.7.10, a version that is really outdated and won't get support anymore?
Honestly, if your experience level isn't really there, then I would recommend trying with 1.7.10 mainly because there is more documentation and you can satisfy dependencies. The biggest change is the network code and changes in Buildcraft.
I wouldn't recommend this. Even with the documentation 1.7.10 differs from 1.8 and above. Most functions in 1.8 above are self-explanatory due their names. And so much changed from 1.7.10 to 1.8. Some basics are still used but thats not really much.
And some bad news at all: The Temp 1.8.9-port is canceled now
I'd rather see a 1.7.10 port really, rather than a 1.8 or above one. Right now not many mods exist for 1.8 and above, and most modding players are still using 1.7.10. This means that it would make more sense to take the step to 1.7.10 where everyone will be on the same page, then once you're familiar with the code from porting to 1.7.10 it will allow you to more easily rewrite for 1.8 and up.
TBH, I'm not really going to newer minecraft versions until certain mods I really love are available for those versions. That means chances are 1.9 isn't for another year or more. and 1.8 isn't until much later this year.
Clearly almost no one here really knows the state of the code or even understands just how long it's going to take to get any version working.
Here's the long and short of it. It's not 1 month at most, think more along the lines of 4-8 months depending on how many people work together BUT by the time a working version of traincraft is available, all the big mods will already be on 1.8 and support for 1.7.10 dropped.
Here's the thing, the code base for traincraft is old and I mean REALLY old, every system TC has ever used has changed at least once and after a while that creates a lot of junk code. Mods are written differently now compared to when TC started, what that means is that the entire structure of the code is not as optimal as it could be.
This requires TC be re-written, that way, all the new methods can be utilized to deliver a version of TC that doesn't take months to find and fix tiny bugs, features can be implemented faster, cleaner and with less new bugs.
One thing I would like to point out is that, back-porting is possible and most of the time results in a better product on the new version while still providing legacy support.
TC has been lagging behind because people wanted the main development to be on whatever the hottest MC version was, not realising that this sort of development results in a non-stable code base which is the worst thing in any sort of public release project.
I hope people will see that simply complaining will get you no where fast. Instead the people who can code, should code. The people who can do artwork, should make artwork. People who can organise people, should work together to organise the work and people. People who can't do these things can report bugs, get coffee, offer constructive feedback. People who can't do any of these things can wait, watch and not contribute to the endless negativity that has been on this thread as of late.
This how any project should be run, it's even more important with open-source projects like TC. We must work together otherwise nothing will happen and TC will die.
Best way to get the mods you want updated to the version you want is by setting up a donation system & then the organiser uses that money to pay for a coder to do that task in hand. It's what I do with FAF. That's Forged Alliance Forever. The Supreme Commander Forged Alliance follow on.
Player base funded updates & mods. It's the only real way your going to get stuff done right!

But thats the thing we always mentioned. A rewrite isn't done in days or weeks. It's done in many months up to a year. If you read all those last pages you always have people that keeps asking for a 1.7.10-version and got multiple times the answer that there is no good point to do it. Maybe they understand after your post why this is a point from a developers view.
If we are waiting for a new mod Then make the trains more up to scale with the other train mods, cause lets face it they are too small to go with flans, mcheli etc.
for the time it was created, they were good sized, perhaps a happy medium by having them sized between what they are now and the other train mods. personally I don't like how all train mods seem to not have a solid floor (except sort of RTM) and solid walls, I would love for one to have solid floors and walls, opening doors, and the best part ever, when you sit in a seat, YOU DON'T "NOT" TURN WITH THE TRAIN. that drove me nuts, "have a curve in your track? stay facing the same way and look at the wall".
Maybe and maybe not. If you make them bigger you can't support Railcraft, because they won't make their tracks bigger. If you scale up by 2 it's too big if you scale up by 1.5 it looks weird in placing and so on.
Why even think about making it bigger? It fit's perfectly into Minecraft. The other thing with the facing is something that's called a "feature"
No really, that are some bugs TC had and this should be fixed in a new mod/version.
This is just getting utterly ridiculous now. Everyone just wants this mod updated to 1.7.10 at least. Yes, its a big job, yes, it takes time, but so far all I've seen is a massive thread of whinging, complaining etc and very little evidence that anything is happening. I'm fairly sure that in the 163 pages of this mod's thread, there are some very skilled modders who would love to help get this mod back on the rails (excuse the pun) so we can all enjoy it again. Has the 1.6.4 code been fully released as open source? Why can't the original developer just dump all the code if he's not able to devote enough time or effort into it any more? Then work can start on a complete rewrite for 1.7.10 upwards, all he would have to do is oversee any new code commits and maybe make a few tweaks where necessary. He can still call the mod his own, and credit anyone who contributed work towards it. I really can't see the big problem. 1.7.10 is, along with 1.6.4, the best-supported versions for mods. It's a disgrace that what is easily one of the best mods for 1.6.4 hasn't made the leap to 1.7.10, and the longer this drags on, the further behind it gets if the mod is to keep being available for future releases.
so... Despite all this bickering and back and fourth... Is anybody actually DOING ANYTHING?... Cause I'm starting to get Incredibly bored without long distance logistics networks.
I heard that TrainCraft might be compiled for Minecraft 1.7.10 by user from sources from GitHub. Where i can get compiled version?
Maybe i don't understand something but on the TrainCraft GitHub repository written that exist 1.7.x and 1.8.x versions.
I like the idea of having trains in minecraft hopefully it'll be compatible with 1.8 version.
Let's get some experience!
Well Ive been waiting years for 1.7.10 so its gonna be a while for 1.8
