Does anyone know if Essentia is a 'liquid'? If not, is there any chance of it becoming one? It'd be awesome to be able to store my Essentia in huge Railcraft tanks, or store other liquids in my warded jars, or pump it across distances, or whatever else comes along to play with liquids.
It's intendley a magical I-will-rip-your-ass volatile substance, so you can only store it in warded jar/phials. Railcraft tanks and BC pipes would ruin the magical feeling Azanor is searching.
However there is a liquid coming up in the future, but I don't know if it is safe to put in pipes.

Well we've already got a golem smart enough to use buckets, there's just no reason for them to pick up or dump mass amounts of water in one place. Do they pick up lava at all? It'd be cool to have a golem that collects buckets of lava from a lake and uses it to keep a furnace running, or dumps it in a marked area. They could keep a lava moat full, or keep a trench full to be converted into easy obsidian.
EDIT: This might be a good place to make use of the ice element, to make heat-resistant golems. Fatties would just melt if they got near lava, and I'd think an AI that's designed to work with lava should probably be immune to it in the first place unless it's ridiculously smart at avoiding a fiery death.

Finished the design of my Arcane Elevator, about to post pics of it once I finish setting it up (taking screen shots and sending them to imgur). It is entirely modular after the second floor, letting you build it up infinutely. Only ground/second floor is different from the rest. Going to post advanced edition later.

Well, I dunno if it will help any other players with research losses, but I figured out one reason why I got them.
I still occasionally use a .bat file to launch MC for ssp, as it's set up to allow more memory to java. Now guessing it assigns a random player number to me whenever I launch the program. Obviously, returning later with the .bat file makes me a 'new' player and the research is gone.
Might not be big news to others, but I'm happy to play without loss of research again. All research stays as long as I just sign in properly... Who'd have thunk it? :\

Since I created a texture pack for Thaumcraft 2 I have now started work on Thaumcraft 3. Luckly Thaumcraft 3 has some of the best textures I have seen in any mod before and makes my life lot easier .
Thx. So you don't use a Arcane Levetator on the top to stop the fall, but a Watersource. The same on the floors?

No, I mostly use pistons. Only levetators are to get up. The water source on the bottom is to stop your fall. What happens is you select a floor, and the piston ABOVE that floor triggers. It forms a roof that stops you. You have use the Elevator Call Button to go to the bottom to go up each time, BUT this design can be modified to work on every floor, not just from the bottom. That is what the Dispensers are for. If I get around to it, I will set up a 100% modular setup that works perfectly, and provide a world download using default config so you can see how.
I am running 3.0.0i on my private server and still getting the Auratick crashes; Anyone have a solution to this? Seems worse when my turtles are mining, but it will happen with the turtles idle as well, I'm running chunkloaders in overworld, nether, and a mining mystcraft age.
General thoughts: I saw Thaumcraft a while ago on a youtube vid when it was much different (with vis/taint crystal harvesting), so I decided to try it out. While it was an enthralling gameplay experience, and some of the things you get are a bit overpowered by vanilla standards, you have to put EVERYTHING you have pretty much to research those things. Even on cursory, the research table eats most things you put into it, despite the rarity of the object, or how it was obtained. This can be especially frustrating when you need the armor essence (specifically because you need to use leather or iron) and even more frustrating when flux or spirit is needed, as the best source for those are whisps. Even on cursory much of the time if you put 1 item in it will destroy it with no result.
Also, because of the changes from Thaumcraft 2 --> 3 there is little to no information about it on the web. The wikis only provide basic information. The best source is youtube videos. Below I will state some things that I have found, such as strategies and observations.
Whisps: these things are incredibly annoying, and show up shortly after you use the crucible (which, even when I have scibing tools, it tells me I was not able to record my research) because when you start out, chances are you have no idea what flux is or how you cause it. You need a strategy based on terrain to fight these with a sword, and you have to sprint most of the time just to not get killed. Eventually, you have to resort to the wand weapons, as fighting them with a sword or bow is not effective enough.
Aura nodes: These don't work with the game in the beginning very well. They are incredibly important to the game, yet you have no way to detect them until you have done an insane amount of research, which by this time you have probably caused quite a bit of flux.
From what I can tell, besides what you already know, flux can cause out-of-the-blue lightning strikes to hit entities. Usually animals, which makes it so you have a much higher chance of having zombie pigmen in the overworld. The game will sometimes announce something like "A nearby aura node spews something foul", which, I'm pretty sure kills squid and/or prevents them from spawning nearby. But honestly that statement makes me thing some huge dangerous creature has spawned and is trying to hunt me. Oh well.
Interestingly enough, gigantic aura nodes spawn in desert temples. Directly in front of them is same type of aura nodes that spawn in the Thaumcraft hill dungeons (barrow hills?). I experimented with this, and it has also lead me to believe that when nodes combine, it stays the type of the larger node. While combining nodes should be a good thing, it does generate quite a bit of flux. A node can go from none to dangerous with enough combining of nodes.
Afterthoughts: While Thaumcraft 3.0 does give a few cool things, it seems lacking in few things. Essence is in everything, so it seems like there would be more transmutation-type things, like wool-->leather, or transmutation involving items and essence using the infuser like egg-->some other spawn egg (like combining an egg with a mob drop in the infusion table with essence).
If a few more awesome things were added to Thaumcraft, and researching were reworked where rare mob drops and rare material had a smaller chance of being destroyed, or possibly damaged/reverted it instead (example: when researching armor/tools, instead of destroying it, damaging it as if it were used by the player, and for something like blaze rods, turn it into blaze powder). If it had some type of solution like that, even if it were based on chance and item rarity (to decide how often or how much something is damaged, or what chance something will result in components/crafting results), that would be much more fair. Not only would it make researching easier, it would also make it harder. Currently, tools and armor can be expended to have a few uses left, and then research it as usual. However, with what I'm saying, new armor could be researched more than heavily damaged armor, and when it was about to be destroyed, there would be a chance of returning materials, (like iron ingots for iron armor).
I like the wand of equal trade, however, it does NOT trade blocks as the Thaumonomicon would suggest, it actually breaks all of the selected blocks and replaces them with the target block. This means that despite all of the research you had to do to get it, you are unable to retrieve certian blocks like glass, smoothstone, ice, ect, that don't drop anything when you manually break them. Also, it seems that if you try to trade leaves, you will get saplings back occasionally if they were to drop, but not apples? Also, sometimes when using the wand on a large amount of blocks, it will cause Minecraft to crash with the reason "Ticking memory connection"

While I don't plan on using Thaumcraft much longer, maybe with improvements to it I will. I hope this post helps this mod advance, as well as help a few players with some of the info I gave about auras and flux, seeing as how there isn't much good information on Thaumcraft that isn't a video.

Considering TC3 is 25% done, and you're using a Tier 1 Crucible, and Tier 1 Alembics...
General thoughts: I saw Thaumcraft a while ago on a youtube vid when it was much different (with vis/taint crystal harvesting), so I decided to try it out. While it was an enthralling gameplay experience, and some of the things you get are a bit overpowered by vanilla standards, you have to put EVERYTHING you have pretty much to research those things. Even on cursory, the research table eats most things you put into it, despite the rarity of the object, or how it was obtained. This can be especially frustrating when you need the armor essence (specifically because you need to use leather or iron) and even more frustrating when flux or spirit is needed, as the best source for those are whisps. Even on cursory much of the time if you put 1 item in it will destroy it with no result.
Netherwart is good for flux, and soul sand for spirit. It's not supposed to be easy.
Also, because of the changes from Thaumcraft 2 --> 3 there is little to no information about it on the web. The wikis only provide basic information. The best source is youtube videos. Below I will state some things that I have found, such as strategies and observations.
Don't expect much info on it yet, not only has it been out for but a few weeks, but it's also only 25% complete.
Whisps: these things are incredibly annoying, and show up shortly after you use the crucible (which, even when I have scibing tools, it tells me I was not able to record my research) because when you start out, chances are you have no idea what flux is or how you cause it. You need a strategy based on terrain to fight these with a sword, and you have to sprint most of the time just to not get killed. Eventually, you have to resort to the wand weapons, as fighting them with a sword or bow is not effective enough.
Wisps appear because you're doing too much with the crucible, or your nearby node is unstable. Also, you're looking for a Thauminomicon not Scribing Tools. Right click a bookshelf with your wand.
From what I can tell, besides what you already know, flux can cause out-of-the-blue lightning strikes to hit entities. Usually animals, which makes it so you have a much higher chance of having zombie pigmen in the overworld. The game will sometimes announce something like "A nearby aura node spews something foul", which, I'm pretty sure kills squid and/or prevents them from spawning nearby. But honestly that statement makes me thing some huge dangerous creature has spawned and is trying to hunt me. Oh well.
Then don't cause too much flux. Just let it dissipate for a while and go mining or something. As for the spawning something foul, that would be a Dark Node, I think... Don't quote me on that, though.
Afterthoughts: While Thaumcraft 3.0 does give a few cool things, it seems lacking in few things. Essence is in everything, so it seems like there would be more transmutation-type things, like wool-->leather, or transmutation involving items and essence using the infuser like egg-->some other spawn egg (like combining an egg with a mob drop in the infusion table with essence).
It's lacking because it's 25% complete. As for transmutation, possible in the future maybe, but you're probably looking for Equivalent Exchange if you want lots of that kind of stuff.
I like the wand of equal trade, however, it does NOT trade blocks as the Thaumonomicon would suggest, it actually breaks all of the selected blocks and replaces them with the target block. This means that despite all of the research you had to do to get it, you are unable to retrieve certian blocks like glass, smoothstone, ice, ect, that don't drop anything when you manually break them. Also, it seems that if you try to trade leaves, you will get saplings back occasionally if they were to drop, but not apples? Also, sometimes when using the wand on a large amount of blocks, it will cause Minecraft to crash with the reason "Ticking memory connection"
I was a little disappointed in the wand for that reason too, but hey, it's still flippin' awesome. As for the crashing, that's probably because of your computer, since Thaumcraft has always been a bit resource intensive.
Look for mounds of grass with a cobble opening on one side. I've only ever found them in plains biomes, but apparently some others have them too. Be ready for a fight when you enter them.
Alright. Got the buttons to call each floor modularized, but it is pretty much heavily based on a lot of noteblocks. Each floor requires 2 noteblocks to go up, and each floor can optionally be installed with the full set of floors you can travel too. I also have found out a very annoying part of Noteblock tech... The material below the block actually messes with what sound is produced, so you have to be careful to set it up. I plan on actually doing a Youtube Video on a fully modular system, as it is pretty easy after the first bit to get it set up. Resource intensive though if you plan on doing this in survival, but 100% possible for lategame building. Is it the most resource effiecient way to go up? No. Is it awesome? Hell yea.
I've seen a lot of posts about Aspect Piping, and I have an idea that might just work. It entails a Tier II Alembic that has a pipe instead of a jar. This pipe could be connected to other pipes that would -slowly- transport one aspect at a time to a warded jar. If another aspect was added to the pipes, it would just cause flux, so instead of being lossy, the downside to this system would be time. The pipes would be small, maybe as large as RedPower Wires. 6 pipes or so (could be more or less for balance) could be crafted with 4 Gold Ingots around a Flux Filter. If there is no place for Aspects to go, they simply dissipate as flux. I was thinking of a neat visual effect they could have too, when connected to a Warded Jar, they would appear to go into the top of the jar, and apects could be seen dripping from the pipe into the jar. I still kind of doubt Aspect Piping will be added, due to Azanor's moving away from tech and more towards magic, but hey, it's just a thought.
Might as well throw this in here, It seems Arcane Ears cannot power Dispensers directly, instead needing a piece of redstone between them. Is this intentional, or maybe a problem in Vanilla? (I almost never use redstone, so I have no clue if this is normal or not.)
I'm still hoping conduits come back as part of the eldritch tech. I'd hate to see all that work go to waste because they look amazing.
Well we've already got a golem smart enough to use buckets, there's just no reason for them to pick up or dump mass amounts of water in one place. Do they pick up lava at all? It'd be cool to have a golem that collects buckets of lava from a lake and uses it to keep a furnace running, or dumps it in a marked area. They could keep a lava moat full, or keep a trench full to be converted into easy obsidian.
EDIT: This might be a good place to make use of the ice element, to make heat-resistant golems. Fatties would just melt if they got near lava, and I'd think an AI that's designed to work with lava should probably be immune to it in the first place unless it's ridiculously smart at avoiding a fiery death.

I still occasionally use a .bat file to launch MC for ssp, as it's set up to allow more memory to java. Now guessing it assigns a random player number to me whenever I launch the program. Obviously, returning later with the .bat file makes me a 'new' player and the research is gone.
Might not be big news to others, but I'm happy to play without loss of research again. All research stays as long as I just sign in properly... Who'd have thunk it? :\

No, I mostly use pistons. Only levetators are to get up. The water source on the bottom is to stop your fall. What happens is you select a floor, and the piston ABOVE that floor triggers. It forms a roof that stops you. You have use the Elevator Call Button to go to the bottom to go up each time, BUT this design can be modified to work on every floor, not just from the bottom. That is what the Dispensers are for. If I get around to it, I will set up a 100% modular setup that works perfectly, and provide a world download using default config so you can see how.

Interestingly enough, gigantic aura nodes spawn in desert temples. Directly in front of them is same type of aura nodes that spawn in the Thaumcraft hill dungeons (barrow hills?). I experimented with this, and it has also lead me to believe that when nodes combine, it stays the type of the larger node. While combining nodes should be a good thing, it does generate quite a bit of flux. A node can go from none to dangerous with enough combining of nodes.

If a few more awesome things were added to Thaumcraft, and researching were reworked where rare mob drops and rare material had a smaller chance of being destroyed, or possibly damaged/reverted it instead (example: when researching armor/tools, instead of destroying it, damaging it as if it were used by the player, and for something like blaze rods, turn it into blaze powder). If it had some type of solution like that, even if it were based on chance and item rarity (to decide how often or how much something is damaged, or what chance something will result in components/crafting results), that would be much more fair. Not only would it make researching easier, it would also make it harder. Currently, tools and armor can be expended to have a few uses left, and then research it as usual. However, with what I'm saying, new armor could be researched more than heavily damaged armor, and when it was about to be destroyed, there would be a chance of returning materials, (like iron ingots for iron armor).

While I don't plan on using Thaumcraft much longer, maybe with improvements to it I will. I hope this post helps this mod advance, as well as help a few players with some of the info I gave about auras and flux, seeing as how there isn't much good information on Thaumcraft that isn't a video.

Might as well throw this in here, It seems Arcane Ears cannot power Dispensers directly, instead needing a piece of redstone between them. Is this intentional, or maybe a problem in Vanilla? (I almost never use redstone, so I have no clue if this is normal or not.)
