Thanks for this fantastic mod. I've now replaced Rei's / Voxel map for it, though there are a few features/bugs I've come across worth mentioning:
Bug: Minimap position setting saves as unchanged if you set it to top right.
Bug: Background mode setting saves as static if you set it to panning (re-join a world/server then open the full screen map to see this).
Bug: The large map render is drawn on top of the items in your inventory bar. Screenshot
Request: Could markers be displayed in first person? Rei/Voxel shows a coloured diamond with a configurable label (none, name only, and name + distance), obviously make it optional.
Request: A marker list editor would be very helpful, being able to edit markers including their name, position, group, and colour in one form (rather than a series of individual input boxes).
Request: Remember the zoom level last used in the full screen map.
Still, big thanks for this mod. It's certainly the best map mod I've come across.
Hello. Is there any word if those 3 bugs made their way into the to-do list?
You should be able to set it to 100% transparent, that would effectively make them invisible on the map.
After fiddling around with it, I've figured it out somewhat. Problem is, there is no color converter/picker on the internet that I can find that will handle ARGB colors. I had to make a custom converter here http://colorpicker.angelqm.com/ and then figure out the conversion from HEX for the alpha to decimal values of 0-255 then convert those to 0-100% alpha values. But anyway, if you open MapWriterBlockColourOverrides.txt in your config folder and add these lines:
That should make clouds 5% transparent, or almost invisible. If you want them completely transparent, change the beginning "0a" in the ARGB color to "00".
Because some mods packs have different ID numbers for blocks, yours may be different, it's best to open NEI and search for the clouds and see what ID numbers are assigned in your version of the game.
I'd also like to suggest adding the following for carpenter slopes from the carpenter blocks mod:
block 813 * ff554946 # Carpenter wedge slope
Again, ID number may be different depending on mods installed. It would be nice if mapwriter could detect the block color of the block placed "inside" the carpenter block, but that might not be possible.
Thanks so much! It is so annoying to have the clouds on the map, a few times I missed a few rougelike dungeons, so this helps greatly.
Wouldn't that make it hard to determine what is water and what isn't?
Lakes, rivers etc are pretty consistent and are generally easy to pick out of the landscape. And once you actually see the water it's easy enough to just remember what color the water is, seeing as it's uncommon enough to be a distinguishing feature of the biome. There's even a few tendencies, like magical biomes often turning it purple.
It's just that stuff like this makes the map look.. off.
(iirc this isn't even a problem in vanilla, but since this map works so brilliantly in modpacks it's become a concern :P)
Not to be that guy who is annoyingly Nagy and rushes you, and can't wait for stuff; but...
now that Minecraft 1.8 is out can we has official 1.7.10 build not just dev build?
Didn't wanna be that guy, but maybe you could just even link the 1.7.10 dev build we've all been using on the op post and call it official, just say'n.
Apparently, no. in fact, the only Minimap mod I've found that hasn't been utterly abandoned, is Journey Map. But I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

You can also use Opis. http://minecraft.curseforge.com/mc-mods/73832-opis
Mostly a server profiler and lag finding tool, but comes with Mapwriter integrated into it. You do not need to use the profiler. It is an exact copy of Mapwriter but with an extra utility added to it used for finding laggy chunks and entities.
Well, I'm happy to be mistaken. Now, if we can only find one for 1.8....

Use Mapwriter 1.7.2-2.1.1 (MC1.7.2). Map erased after leaving the game (single player) and start painting again. Travel story is lost, it defeats the purpose of using the mod. How can I fix it? I also use Rei’s Minimap (use the markers from it) may conflict with it?
I want to know if it is possible changing the black (used to hide the map)
I would make the map 100% visible?
Thank.
If I understand you correctly, that's not possible, it only shows the parts of the map that you have actually been to, it doesn't know what the rest of the world file looks like until you have been there.
If you want to map an entire world save, look up Minutor or Unmined.

Since I am a fan of this mod [...] I [...] updated it to 1.7.10. The change [...] took like 5 seconds [...]
Could you, now that mcp is out and forge is on the way, update to 1.8.X; would the changes required be as superficial as they were to 1.7.10, or would that be a real undertaking?
Hey Newly Spawned....I ran into the same problem. Every time I reload my save game, nothing is saved....not the way points nor the map. It really sucks!
Hopefully this error can be found and fixed in the near future. Cuz it is a real pain in the butt when trying to use on your game.
...never mind, the last several posts are all about this problem. Ignore me. XD
Hello! I'm having a bit of a problem with Mapwriter on a personal modpack I'm working on. It doesn't seem to be saving any of the settings-- waypoints, minimap settings, the world map, anything-- between sessions. None of the other mods in the pack are forgetting their settings, just Mapwriter. It's not giving me any error messages, and the game is exiting normally and not crashing on exit.

plz update to 1.7.10
also add to minecraftcurseforge page for easier find of this great mod
You should try Journey Map. It is currently being very well supported. http://journeymap.techbrew.net/
It has radar, underground mode, waypoints and ability to share/display a map on a web page. I use a second monitor to have a large map always viewable at a glance.
