IF you do, then I'd recommend doing it the same way Rei's Minimap does (only allow it if specific [hopefully the same ones as Rei's] characters are in the motd).

Thanks for the advice, but that method wouldn't work as well for this mod (being open source) as it does for Rei's.
It'd be trivial to disable any artificial limitations I put in the code.
Better to just not code an entity radar in the first place.
I wouldve never thought about making it that way. Its a good idea. It would be a super hassle to redo it everytime I wanted to update the map I think though. However it would work I think. I would be worth the effort. Thanks
Thank you SO MUCH for creating this mod and even providing SOURCE CODE! I had been using Cartograph, but it doesnt seem to work for 1.4.5. I tried JourneyMap but it doesn't seem to be doing it for me. I posted on REI Mini-Map topic to see if he could incorporate your source into his mod; but, let's see how that goes ;-)
Thanks for making the mod FORGE COMPATIBLE! ;-)
I just figured out that maps get generated automatically when I move around -- which is GREAT! Obviously, I have just started using this mod.
I haven't been able to find the readme.txt file that has been mentioned.
Also, where is the file located that has the saved waypoints?
Thanks again for your GREAT EFFORT!Ok, I see a readme.txt in the anvilmapper source.
I still like this mod because it gives me a .png of my world.
But, It seems that I still have to wait longer for Extended Block ID's to be
the norm (this is probably why Cartograph and others do not work).
Because when I do run.bat in anvilmapper, I get ...
Creating images for zoom level 3
warning: chunk (27, 30) section 0 has extended block data
... which goes on for a while ... 2600 lines or so ... ;-)
and then (as can be expected ;-) ...

I haven't included a readme with any of the Forge versions of mapwriter. The original readme only had installation instructions for the non forge version which are now no longer needed.
All the markers should be stored in the configuration file at:
%APPDATA%\.minecraft\config\MapWriter.cfg
However it is not currently working...
It appears that somewhere between Forge 6.4.0 and 6.4.2 the client disconnect event stopped being triggered.
This means that the configuration file and any currently loaded regions are never saved.
I will try to fix this as soon as I can.
Hrm... that exception in AnvilMapper is definitely a bug. It should output the warnings but otherwise ignore any extended block ID's.
I will fix that too!

It turns out the issue with MapWriter not saving images and configuration on exit was caused by a bug in Forge 6.4.2.
The bug has been fixed in Forge 6.5.0.467, so the mod will work correctly with that version or later.
I have hopefully fixed the bug in AnvilMapper causing it to throw an exception when it encounters extended block ID's, and have removed the excessive warning messages.
Also added some info in the first post about the files and directories created by MapWriter.
Finally added a proper readme to the source code to help mod developers get started using it.
Believe I found a problem. But first Id like to mention a few things
Spot on you for keeping this updated and whatnot. Youre doing a fantastic job. Also nice work on putting coordinates in. I like it
But enough about how awesome you are. Lets move on to the error.
When I tried to change through the map overlays, that is going from small to big to underground etc, it shuts down the internal server the second I go from the big overlay of the map to whatever wouldve been next. This is the error Im getting. And Im sorry for the wall of text but I dont know how to do the spoiler hiding thing

--- END ERROR REPORT af1d4d4b ----------
As you can see it fails at the underground render. Nothing big just thought Id point it out to you.
I never did try the map png into the painting trick yet. I may try it soon and let you know how it goes.
Also if I may give a suggestion for a possible future update. A menu system would be wonderful. At least a simple one so I can map keys and set certain things. And also support for other mods blocks. I still cant see trees from the ExtraBiomes XL Mod. Nothing big again but maybe something to work towards in the future. This mod has the power to over take Reis I think
I have hopefully fixed the exception when switching to underground view mode in 1.2.2.
Yeah, next thing I am planning for the mod is to make all the block colours configurable in game and in a text configuration file.
This would allow people to add colour mappings for extended block ID's from other mods and post their changes here so I can add them to the release.
I think I mentioned before, but you can change the default key bindings in the standard minecraft options menu. The keys mapwriter uses have the following names in the menu:
Map Mode
Next Marker Group
Teleport to Marker
Map Pan Up
Map Pan Down
Map Pan Left
Map Pan Right
Zooming in would be pretty easy to add, would this be useful?
However can't zoom out much further without making significant code changes i'm afraid.
Seasons Mod 1.6.1 didn't work at all for me when I tried it a while ago (even without any other mods).
I tried Seasons Mod 1.7 today, and as you pointed out, the mini map flickers.
I'll see if I can find the problem later today.
@Volans_XVI
Hmm... mapwriter-1.2.2 seems to work for me with 1.4.7 and Forge 6.6.0.499.
Have you tried it without any other mods loaded?
Does it show up in the 'Mods' section of the main Minecraft menu?
@Everyone
Uploaded a small update.
Block colours are now customizable using the configuration file (see first post for instructions). This will allow colours for extended Block ID's to be added so that new blocks from other mods are visible in the mini map.
If you do add colours for the blocks of another mod, or make an interesting colour scheme you think other people will like, please upload the changes here.
Thanks WeatherPony, it seems the problem was on my end though. In the rendering code I had forgotten to make sure that the GL colour was reset before drawing textured rectangles.
So when something else sets the colour to transparent the mini map isn't displayed. Not sure why it flickered though... maybe forge calls the tick handlers for each mod in a different order each frame?
Anyway, seems to work now.
@Mas7er
I have now added zoom functionality in 1.2.4. You can zoom in using Page Down and zoom out using Page Up.
I'm not sure what could be going wrong. Does anything show up in game when you have it in the 'mods' folder? It should display a blank rectangle and the coordinates, but not the terrain.
Just so I can confirm exactly what you did to install the mod:
You downloaded 'minecraft.exe', and ran it so that it updates and downloads files.
Then you downloaded Forge Latest Universal, opened the '.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar' in 7-zip or WinRAR or similar, deleted META-INF, and copied the files extracted from Forge Latest Universal into the archive.
Then you put 'mapwriter-1.2.2.jar' into the '.minecraft\coremods' folder, and then ran 'minecraft.exe'?
Some more details about your setup would be useful:
What OS are you using?
Are you using any third party launcher program or script?
Are you using any mods other than mapwriter?
Do any other coremods work (try installing chicken_bone's Not Enough Items (NEI) / CodeChickenCore mod)?
Is there anything else about your setup that might be different from that of a typical Windows user?
Also please post your '.minecraft\ForgeModLoader-client-0.log' file (preferably within spoiler tags).
I was asking, Volans_XVI, because it took me a bit to figure out how to load coremods with MagicLauncher. (No, it's not just "put it in your coremods folder" when using MagicLauncher.)
Then I'm out of ideas. Hope you can get it, mapwriter.

How strange! I did not know Internet Explorer would do that.
I'll add a note on the first post warning people to check the extension after downloading.
I wonder why the CodeChickenCore jar did not get renamed also?
Maybe mediafire sets the MIME type differently?
I'll provide additional download links through Google Drive to see if that helps Internet Explorer users.

It keeps refreshing itself every half second or so. Kind of annoying seeing the map flash so often lol. Just letting you know
Zooming in would be pretty easy to add, would this be useful?
However can't zoom out much further without making significant code changes i'm afraid.
Seasons Mod 1.6.1 didn't work at all for me when I tried it a while ago (even without any other mods).
I tried Seasons Mod 1.7 today, and as you pointed out, the mini map flickers.
I'll see if I can find the problem later today.
@Volans_XVI
Hmm... mapwriter-1.2.2 seems to work for me with 1.4.7 and Forge 6.6.0.499.
Have you tried it without any other mods loaded?
Does it show up in the 'Mods' section of the main Minecraft menu?
@Everyone
Volans_XVI, are you using MagicLauncher?
I program
So when something else sets the colour to transparent the mini map isn't displayed. Not sure why it flickered though... maybe forge calls the tick handlers for each mod in a different order each frame?
Anyway, seems to work now.
@Mas7er
Then I'm out of ideas. Hope you can get it, mapwriter.
I program

How strange! I did not know Internet Explorer would do that.
I'll add a note on the first post warning people to check the extension after downloading.
I wonder why the CodeChickenCore jar did not get renamed also?
Maybe mediafire sets the MIME type differently?
I'll provide additional download links through Google Drive to see if that helps Internet Explorer users.
Glad you got it working. No doubt your efforts will help others with the same problem, so thanks for that.
