Hey, in an older version, people's whispers would go to their own tab without me being able to turn it on or off. How can I get this feature back? It wasn't part of a filter or anything.
Thanks!
I believe this functionality is tied to the "Auto-search for chat channels" option in newer versions. When this option is off, TabbyChat does not attempt to catch PMs when they match supported formats.
If you want this back, I believe you'll need to enable this option. If doing so causes other issues (such as making additional unwanted new tabs), you should be able to set your Chat-channel delimiters to something not applicable for your server.
I am the lead of a huge moderator team on my server and it was really useful in answering missed whispers when each player's whispers got their own tab. If I have to make a delimiter for each channel, that is kind of a pain.

Separate checkboxes (options) for creating "normal" tabs (channels) and message tabs
as I only want automatic PM tabs and once again I wonder: why didn't I think of that.
And for the sound, (which I also wanted for PM tabs only) I could filter /[.* -> me]
Edit: Echo, I wrote that as it can add sound to every PM. Separate tabs for PMs are good and I use them

As an addendum I meant adding ignored channels every time one makes a new tab. The only reason this is a giant pain in the ass is because our chat channel prefixes and towns use the same format (For example, staff channel looks like [Staff] and town names look like [Echotown] or whatever]. If the town is part of a nation (Which they are 90% of the time), TC does nothing, which is good.
Also, I would use the filter that robot posted, but I don't want all of my whispers going to one tab. I want EACH PERSON to get their OWN tab.
I'm not sure I'm completely following - if you enable auto-channel searching, and set your delimiters to brackets, what part of the resulting functionality is undesirable to you? Do you NOT want new tabs for each town/nation? I suppose that would make sense, actually.

Heh, sorry. Maybe if I explained the server's chat formatting a bit better, it would make sense.
There are probably... 20 channels that we use. All channels are denoted with brackets. It looks something like this:
[10:00:00][Staff]EchoJerichoX[SrMod]: I suck at video games.
[10:00:20][Help]IdiotPlayer[New]: i cn't mke a craft table plz help plix plox plex plz ploz
[10:00:44][Egypt|Cairo]EchoJerichoX[SrMod]: OMG players are tards sometimes.
The actual problem lies in that the general channel does not say "[General]" at the start, but just the player's town and, if applicable, their nation. The problem is that if they have no nation, TabbyChat catches it as if it is its own channel. Those look like this:
[pooptown]IdiotPlayer[New]: im st00pidz lolz!!1eleven11!!!shift+11!!!
All of a sudden, "pooptown" gets its own tab.
See now? I have to then go into the settings and add "pooptown" to my ignored channels.
Yeah, I think I see what you're getting at now. I was about to suggest attempting to setup a "remove" filter expression to keep general chat out of other tabs (they would still appear in *), but now that I'm reviewing the code, it would appear that wouldn't work. Seems like this is a bit of a bug, though, because I would normally expect that to work. I'll probably change that in the near future, so this could be a possible avenue.
If you have any input on server configuration, you could possibly propose a config change to operate a little better with TabbyChat - the least obtrusive route would be to simply use a different color for channel delimiters versus nation/town delimiters. Then, you could set the appropriate color in TabbyChat as well.
Unfortunately, I don't see any other options with the current state of TabbyChat. A separate option for new PM tabs would clearly be the best way to go. If you can live with waiting it out, I'll probably get that implemented soon.
I totally understand, thanks for talking it over with me.
The senior mod staff members on my server (Including me) use a customized SocialSpy plugin to watch player message and command activity. I requested the owner put an [SS] tag at the start of all of the SocialSpy messages solely for TabbyChat filter purposes. I don't think asking for the same with General would be too much to ask.
Regardless, I think re-adding the old ability to have TabbyChat automatically figure out what is a whisper and give each player their own tab would be much easier and more realistic for the rest of us. Especially if it had its own option checkbox ("Create tabs for private conversations" or something).
Hey, I know it says 1.6.1 but, for example, Optifine never updated their op to 1.4.7 because their 1.4.6 version was completely compatible with minecraft 1.4.7. I was just wondering whether this was too.
Yes, that's a valid question. Unfortunately no, it's not compatible with 1.6.2. Since TabbyChat needs to interact heavily with some of Minecraft's base classes, it generally needs to be compiled directly against each specific version of Minecraft to function correctly.
Of course, I believe there are plenty of mods to which this does not apply. I'd imagine a lot of Forge mods (if they stick to Forge's API) can probably support a range of Minecraft releases.
Anyhow, there should be a 1.6.2 version available in the near future.
So during some recent testing, i've noticed my client freezing when attempting to open the chat interface, or on receiving incoming chat. It appears the cause of this is the fact that my VPS is down for emergency maintenance, and the update checker is hanging due to lack of response.
Anyone else getting this? If so, you may want to remove TabbyChat in the meantime, at least until the host comes back up. For what it's worth, the fix is in place already and will be included in the next version.
Edit: Host still not up yet. In case this problem IS affecting everyone, as I suspect, I'm going to throw up some builds of the new version here, which resolve this issue. I apologize for the inconvenience. I'll update the OP as soon as my host is back online so I can upload the new files.
in the meantime, I've changed the DNS record to point to another functioning host, at least so that your clients can get some sort of response, but it may take a while for that record update to propogate to your DNS servers.
Edit: Removed link to 1.5.2 version - needs more testing before release, new DNS record seems to have propogated and should resolve update-check issue for past versions.

Not sure if with those 2 versions the issue was suppose to be "fixed" but not on my side, im on single player 1.6.2 getting all my mods updated (Server updating really soon) and when opening the chat my FPS goes to like 5, extremely lagging me out.
Just tried the version above.. I am able to join a server, but after about 10 seconds, I get the following.
Thanks for the report. I suppose I should've mentioned that this version has not been tested much yet. I added a fix to resolve this exception, re-compiled and updated the mod at the two links I included in an earlier post. You may want to re-download from there.

If you've got even more than a single frame, then the issue is fixed; this would have to be something else. I'll have to take a closer look.

For the 1.5.2 that im currently using it never froze me or lagged me, but for that last one for 1.6.2 it completely lags me and it stops lagging when i close the chat, but every time i go back to chat it lags.
Edit: Found whats causing the lag, the "Force Unicode Chat Rendering" i like how chat looks with this option but i took it off and the lag went away.
I noticed that if I type a long sentence and the chat needs to split it that the chat places the end of the sentence before the first part of the sentence in the chat.
Same issue here, i sent like 4 lines-long message and it wen't all out of order.
First off, just to be clear, the 1.6.2 version I provided several posts back is very much a development version. Normally I would've only released it to the test team due to the scope of the changes made (significant re-writing, I definitely expected some bugs to exist), but I decided to make it available to everybody due to the horrible update-checking bug present in past versions.
So, if you're not comfortable running beta-quality software, I'd advise you to wait. Otherwise, you're obviously more than welcome to make use of it. For those of you who've reported issues, you have my thanks.

That sounds pretty strange to me. I have noticed some issues with the Unicode rendering - when this is enabled, TabbyChat is SUPPOSED to set the font renderer to unicode 'mode' during the times when parts of TabbyChat are rendered, and then set it back to whatever mode it was in before. Seems like sometimes, TabbyChat is forgetting to do the latter properly. However, I don't see how this would cause a degradation in frame rates - it's certainly not affecting mine when I test this.
I'll try and fix the 'mode toggling' and we'll see if that helps.
I believe I've come across a bug with the ConsolidatedSpam function. I used a command I know does not exist to automatically bring up an "Unknown command" message ingame to me. Normally, I expect it to look as follows below:
[01:18pm] Unknown command. Type /help for help. [x4]
But instead, I find it looking like this:
[01:18pm][01:18pm] Unknown command. Type /help for help. [x2]
[01:18pm][01:18pm] Unknown command. Type /help for help. [x2]
The logfile has no abnormalities in it and looks as expected, as well as being findable where expected as well. I have installed the mod as told to in the OP using the 1.8.08 update a few posts above to allow it to work with 1.6.2. I haven't noticed this in the 1.6.1 release but I haven't tested that either.
I noticed that if I type a long sentence and the chat needs to split it that the chat places the end of the sentence before the first part of the sentence in the chat.
Thanks for the info, I'll try and fix these issues.
The multiple lines did get fixed, just tested it but i keep lagging really badly when putting the rendering text :/
FPS goes from 25~30 down to 1~5, it goes back to normal when i don't have the chat on focus (typing).. i guess back to normal chat for now at least i still have the tabs and such hehe.
Is there any way i can help tracking this issue down ? perhaps forcing a crash file or something ?

I feel your pain, reading the OP or the name of the topic is hard. I think it took me until I was 3 or 4 to learn how to read like that.

- Fixed a case where Unicode rendering wasn't set back to default
- Fixed issue where splitting a single message into multiple lines (due to chatbox width) caused the lines to display in the reverse order
- Fixed issue with extraneous timestamp added to spammed chat, tripping up subsequent spam checking
I uploaded this to the same location as the previous link, but I'll include it here for convenience:

Loaded with modLoader (with a modLoader patch, and using Magic Launcher)
Yes, but it also lags on default.
I'll take everything off except modLoader nad tabbyChat and I'll let you know.
Edit: Did a few testing taking all mods, putting back some etc etc.. well i found the mod..
It goes to 1~5fps using optifine, without optifine it doesnt do it.. and well i need optifine to play D:
