Something I noticed while using this in some custom maps is that this mod appears to crash the game when you encounter a custom mob. I noticed this when I was playing Inferno Mines. I don't expect you to fix it, I just want people to be aware of it.
Fixed player not rendering and with wrong health information in the repositioning gui.
Modified the raytracing to have the ability to pass through non-opaque blocks. Meaning you can target mobs and players through stuff like fences, and glass. This only iterates through at MOST 10 blocks before stopping, to prevent unintentional slowdowns.
Added a fallback for strangely registered mobs, and will default to villager for positioning and scaling.
Removed all references to ResourceLocations, and instead used an alternate method to load the resources. This should fix incompatibilities between versions, and may allow the mod to work in 1.6.1, but needs testing.
Fixed the unskinned version from crashing the game.
Optimized the color picker image generation code.

This should never happen, please post your crash report, and it will be fixed.
I read the first page's comments about the 3Dness and I would really like this as an option to select 3D or 2D, only if this is kind of easy.
Naw its not like it would be just adding a couple of lines of code. I could extrude similar to how the 3d icons are rendered, however, i dont really like the idea in the first place. It would cause the popoffs difficult to read.
If someone would like to make me a ascii.png with 3d looking text(although still basically 2d) i may add it, however, that may be challenging. (I would only need the numbers modified)
The 2dness of the popoffs are intentional, it was a stylistic decision, and actually require some 2d simulation as they spawn in a 3d world, like always facing directly at the player.
It happened because I had damage indicators on while also having 4 MFR Grinders were killing mobs from 2 t5 soul shard spawners (1x enderman spawner 1x skelly spawner) and an MFR auto spawner (spawning wither skellys)
Disabling damage indicators fixed it. it was quite random bug happened after 10-20mins of playing
Strange... it was the rendering of a fluid block that crashed. Did you mouse over someone with a fluid block of some kind in their hand? Trying to recreate this, as this crashed in minecraft code, not my mod.
Fixed an issue with the new raytracer if a glass block is near the end of your view range.
Fixed an issue with colors sometimes not saving correctly.
Completely reworked the rendering on the popoffs. They have a new look, let me know what you think. This should also give a performance improvement.
Reworked how popoffs are registered.
I might want to add that i am running minecraft 1.4.7 with forge 6.6.2.534 and optifine 1.4.6_HD_U_D5 and damage indicator 2.4.8
I also tested it without optifine and it did not change anything. So my above question really shouldn't be considered other me still wondering if there are others out there that experience frame drops when viewing players (works fine on mobs).
Additional info: I have a decent computer with good phenom II 1090T @ 4.2ghz and a AMD 6970 2GB.
So it's not due to my computer, as all games run smoothly.
Another question, i am wondering how exactly do i apply the custom skins?
I was looking at the supernothingmini and i figured maybe i could fix it by simply having another skin which doesn't show the player model as this is not needed.
It states to install to a folder (/.minecraft/CustomDISkins which would then read as /.minecraft/CustomDISkins/SuperNothingMini) and i did this, and this did nothing. There was no option in neither config to use them. I also went ahead and slapped the folder inside the actual mod under DITextures. But nothing happened.
As a last try, i replaced all files in the DITextures with the supernothingmini skin one and it of course came up uglier than ugly.

Any insightful idea's on what to do?
That is a very old version and is no longer supported.
Don't know if anyone said this, checked bugs and change log, and don't know if its because of minecraft or I pressed a button. Zans Minimap, damage indicators, and chat will go gray when the damage indicator GUI is on certain players or mobs. Only happens when you move the GUI near the Minimap.
I just do, I have had issues with it in the past, and I just prefer modloader, used it since early beta and only use forge when I absolutely need to, Forge is even more annoying to me since 1.6 came out, as it prevents you from changeing the jar at all

Actually, the jar from Mojang does that. So far this release (1.6.x) Forge has had a lot less issues for me than modloader.
With the changes in Minecraft 1.6, there is no need to modify the jar at all.

Not sure, but I do know modloader mods hook differently than forge mods, so allowing them to overlap has always made things a bit derpy. I will look into it however.
Rei's minimap is just like any other mod, just drag and drop the .zip file. Optifine is the only exception, and here is a link on how to install it:

Now that is impossible as far as I know. There needs to be some mod loading API involved.

Mobs show up fine, but when a player is selected the frame drop is dramatic.

Thank you for this mod, it's one of the REQUIRED ones in my library after every update now.
Why do you hate forge?
