ROOKYTRISTAN47 has been gracious enough to host a server with this mod installed! Come check it out at 184.108.40.206!
HELLO! I am very happy to say that my moon mod has finally been updated, and is ready for your downloading pleasure!
INFORMATION: This mod adds, as you most likely would guess, the possibility for the player to build a spaceship and fly to the moon! Right now, I will admit, the moon is a very barren place. There are no new mobs. There is only one new ore, and it is hard to reach and has no use. There are no caves under the surface. There isn't much of anything. Yet. What the moon DOES have, however, is a completely unique building environment that you can only find in a zero-pressure environment. Building on the moon is very different than on Minecraftia. Any building materials that are not strong enough to stand up to the dangers of a vacuum are simply unusable, and liquids are frozen solid instantaneously. Sadly, the same physics apply to the human body, leading to a bit of exploding unless you are wearing a space-suit!
For now, the mod is mainly a way to test your building skills and to get the hang of the moon-physics system for when I add more to the mod later.
PLEASE NOTE! The mod is complex, and this is just a quick overview, many things will not be covered. Also, the physics are not perfect, and there may be times where it does not want to cooperate.
Space-Suit: Must be worn while in the vacuum of space in order to prevent explosive decompression.
Air Scrubber: Used to create artificial atmospheric conditions similar to those on Minecraftia. To use it, place it in an airtight chamber and right-click it. If the scrub is successful, then the light will turn green and the scrubbed area will function almost identically to normal Minecraftia. CAREFUL! If the air-tight seal of the chamber is lost, then the room will decompress, destroying any fragile blocks that may have been placed as well as putting the player in danger.
Cockpit Block: Used only as the key block in the building of a space-ship. Once the ship has been built around it, right click the cockpit in order to be transferred between the moon and Minecraftia.
Framework Block: This is a block that is not in the screenshots because I have not had the time to make a nice one for it. Since the moon requires you to build out of stone, metal, or glass, I wanted to add another building option for the player. By putting iron ingots in a 2x2 grid, you will get 2 Iron Framework blocks. They operate exactly like Iron blocks, but they cost much less to make, opening up the potential for a more futuristic building style without taking a crazy amount of iron.
Moonstone: The basic block on the moon, it can be smelted to get an iron ingot. Since you needed so much iron to get to the moon, I figured that I would go ahead and be nice. If you are wondering why it does this, look up what happens when you microwave lunar dust. Pretty cool.
Star Blocks: They don't have a use YET, but they will once I start adding the interesting features.
INSTALLATION: The only other install that the mod requires is Minecraft Forge 4.1.1, NOT 4.2.5. Dimension API was used, but it is packaged with the mod because of a minor change I had to make, and to make the installation easier.
***NOTICE*** Manual install works now, but you need to actually unzip the contents of the forge and moon-mod zip folders and put the contents into your minecraft.jar, after deleting the META.INF folder. You CANNOT just put the moon mod zip into the "mods" folder. That will cause a crash.
Fixed a name-error in the files to correct server usage
Surface of the moon
Front of the space-ship design (Disregard the cockpit block's texture, it has since changed)
Back of the spaceship
Recipe for the air-scrubber block
Recipe for the cockpit block (Again, please ignore the texture, it has been changed)
^ The recipe for 2 Iron-Framework blocks
The gears shown in the recipes are made out of 5 iron ingots in a cross,
Like so. They are only used in these recipes for now, but they will have more of a use later.
And a German one!
Currently, there are a few glitches I have not been able to iron out.
torches and their redstone cousin can sometimes decompress your base when placed in large clusters, so try not to put them in clumps for now
ONLY the Magic Launcher install method currently works. I don't quite understand why, but I am looking into it.
It does rain on the moon, this will be fixed most likely in the first big update. For now, just assume that when it rains, the moon is passing through a cloud of some kind of un-freezable liquid floating in space.
BIG ONE! The mod currently breaks super-flat maps! I am working on a fix as fast as I can, and I think I already know the problem it's causing.
These bugs are only the ones that I have been unable to work out on my own, I am sure there are more. If you are feeling generous, please send me your glitches so I can compile a complete list of problems to address.
I would like to thank Pudelhund for his amazing Dimension API, and everyone working on Forge for their awesome API!
THIS is the fun part.
Reworked world-gen, including vast undergound oceans and crystal formations
Many new materials, used for everything from laser-tools to teleporters
The reason that these are still just plans is that I need to make sure the key systems of the mod work as planned before it is made more complicated.
For now, feel free to download the mod and have fun!
Sorry for the lack of news for the past few weeks!
I have been trying to figure out how to update the mod with the changes to the apis that I use for it. For the most part, I should be able to get the basic functionality of the mod working again through the Forge dimension management tools, but it is going to take me a bit to get the air-scrubbing code to work without the hooks that were offered by DimensionAPI. I also have been a bit busy with school, but things are calming down now, so I am going into full coder-mode.
I can't say how long it will take for an update, but I will work on it as fast as I can. I have to rewrite a lot of the hardest parts of the code... again... to make it work. I have already redone the world-gen to be many times faster, and hopefully the new rewrite for the mod won't have the mysterious NullPointerExceptions that have been giving some people problems.
I actually have a question for anyone who may know the answer, is there currently a way to intercept all block change events using just forge? That really was the sole reason that I was using DAPI still even after most of it's features were offered by Forge. As far as I know, I can't do this without another API, or by adding the hook myself and possibly causing some wonderful potential for incompatibilities. I need this function in order to make the moon act moon-y, with the freezing water and decompressing air and all. Any help would be appreciated!
I have absolutely no idea. It is going to be a HUGE rewrite of the code. Again. For the sixth or seventh time. I have yet to have a single update where something like this didn't go wrong and force me to start almost completely over.
Wow... I've seen comments and your replies, and I'm starting to wonder if you spend all your time on this amazing mod...
You have no idea.
I spend a ton of time working to keep this updated, and it gets frustrating having to constantly rewrite it. Every time I get it stable, something changes in the next update that makes me have to redo it. That, or the API I use is dropped, first ShockAHPI and then DimensionAPI. I have to rewrite the code to a new standard that works ALMOST as well as it was before, and at this point the code has greatly deteriorated. I am looking into not only a rewrite, but a completely new start. The old methods for handling the air just can't work without the hooks from DAPI. Even if I get it working now, I know that as soon as I get it released the official modding API will come out and require another rewrite.
I have been working on this mod for years now and it has been so unbelievably difficult just keeping it running that I haven't gotten to add a new feature since the initial build from two years ago. I will keep working on it though, because It has been my dream to get it off the ground, and I know that there are a lot of people that are really excited about getting their hands on a working version of it.
Would just like to say that I LOVE!!!!! this mod. I've ran a few mods these past days but from the lot this is my fav mod.
Honestly it's a pity its not yet available for 1.4.5 but will play on 1.3.2 for a few days to mess around on the moon.
Love the mod and am willing to help beta test the mod to get it 100%. i'm no good with code but can help with video spotlight and how to vids.
Can anybody help me with this? I can't get to the moon. When I click on the Nav system, NOTHING HAPPENS.
Do I need to add on the Dimensions API now to make it work, even though the mod maker said I dont need it?
EDIT:Ignore this post, just building mai rocket wrong >_<
