I've thought about hand-placing them, but obviously that'll be super time-consuming, and the downside is also that I'll know where they all are. Ideally, as a player on the server myself, I wouldn't know where they were.
I'm contemplating the idea of using an ore gen mod where I would use the hive blocks (instead of an ore block), with a distro that does a replace on leaf blocks in specific biomes, where the leaf block is replaced with the same leaf block + hive below it. That'll let me stick hives in trees, but it's less than perfect in that hives could be buried anywhere in the trees, instead of hanging from a branch. Conversely, I could do it with logs instead of leaves, but there's a chance the hive would appear IN the tree trunk, and the orientation of the replaced log might be wrong… and that'd look pretty weird.
That's where my head is at right now, anyway.
Hives aren't actually biome-limited, they just seem to be because they're dependent on foliage density and so rare. I found one in a plain once.
There's no way for the ore thing to check for multiblock configurations, even though it can place them?

You want a farm, you grab a hoe. You want a boat, you grab some wood. You want a fireplace, you grab A FLAMING HELL-BOULDER BECAUSE THAT'S HOW MINECRAFTERS ROLL!!!

Not that I'm aware of, unfortunately. And the more I think about my idea, the more I think it might not work the way I pictured. I could potentially end up with floating hives, since I'd also have to include replaces on air block, to achieve the "hanging hive" look. So apart from straight up burying them in tree's leaves, I'm out of ideas, right now.
I think it would be much more interesting to be able to make larger grape arbors using the grape leaves on ropes.
In short my suggestion is to make it so that grape plant leaves can spread much further horizontally along the ropes. About 15 to 20 blocks away would allow for more creative uses and not be too ridiculous as to break any balance or realism .
Here are a few pictures showing the structure I attempted to create.
On the topic above this post , Instead of using genMinable you could always generate your own trees and then place the hive on the tree where ever you wanted. Or create multiple custom generators to place hives any where you want.
One possibility might be to make a bee entity/mob that can spawn in and fly around. This bee might have a random chance of landing on a tree, and even more random it can then spawn in a hive block. The random chance would obviously have to be adsjusted so the world is not taken over by beehives.
Hello, i recently installed your mods (core, cellar, hops, rice and grape) and i am very happy with that. Hovewer, i installed next mod - the Eternal Frost. When i ran across the portal of Freezer (the Eternal Frost dimension) i noticed that lakes of the Freezer are replacing with ropes that are from your mod.
Can you tell whats wrong?
That sounds like an ID conflict, but 1.7 should have pretty much done away with those. Are you using 1.6.4?

Wow, that's a very aesthetically pleasing growing method. I like your idea. I hope they see this and consider it.
Also, what is that boat you have right there? I've never seen a mod like that.
If someone happens to PM you, in how many days (in average) are you going o see the message? I'd like you to, at least, answer the message I sent you about a suggestion for this mod.
The new coding changes for 1.8 already took a lot of time (at least) for me to understand. Reverting them back to 1.7.x coding will take more time that I could've used for improving the mod.
I most certainly wouldn't ask you to backport any additions to the mod to 1.7.10, and I usually wouldn't even ask this, but will you continue to address bugs for that version? Normally I'm all for moving on to the latest minecraft version, but that isn't going to happen with 1.8. Seems most major mods are waiting for 1.9 for various reasons.
with what the last guys said I feel the same. I still love this game and I love your mod but I really am just not felling 1.8 nor do I think most modders are at this point also. Your one of the top mods I wait for to update but I just don't think I will until I know 1.9 is really going to happen. As of now I have a few mods that add everything 1.8 adds anyways so I see no point in updating as of right now
Because I can't just sit here doing nothing while waiting for Game of Thrones.
(take note that this is still work-in-progress so please dont hurt me)
(oh and Growthcraft 3 won't be just a 1.7->1.8 update, i'll be adding new stuff around)
(ETA: will be ready sometime before May)
(oh and also, Cellar wont be updated in the meantime because AFAIK forge fluids is currently disabled)
Is that apples growing inside the leaves? Is this going to replace current apple trees or are apples going to grow both inside and on the bottoms of leaves?

Yep, I'll be (or will try to) fixing bugs from 1.7.x. I started Growthcraft back then because I want to add stuff to my 1.5.x singleplayer world. There were/are mods that aslo made things like this but all failed to provide what I need/like (I'm quite picky). Same reason why I want to update this to 1.8, my current singleplayer world is getting boring.

Yes, it's a work-in-progress apple tree.
I plan it (and future fruit trees/bushes) to look something like this (credits Zynga):
or this (credits developers of Towns):
So as you can see, the one I posted earlier didn't really meet up to my expectations, so I'll be scratching that or rework with it.
Designing the apple tree to look like something 'realistic' or 'stereotypical' is harder than what you might expect. Yes, there's already a lot of apple tree mods out there and they all fall to one of the following categories:
Apple leaves with apple in its texture. Will drop apples when right-clicked/destroyed.
A block of apple hanging below a leaf block. Destroying will yield apple.
The first one doesn't stand out that much (can be read as "not very unique in relation to vanilla minecraft stuff") and the second one doesn't feel right at all (yes, my current apple mod looks a bit stupid now that I think of it).
I still have a lot of ideas about how the apple tree will look and work, but they are all just in paper. I'll try them all out and hope that something will look right.
ps: Grapes, hops, rice, bamboo, bees, and cellar all went through the same rigorous designing phase before being released.
Now that third party modpacks are starting to use the Curse platform, any chance you'd update your CurseForge project with the latest 1.7.10 build? You might need to merge the individual jars together to make it usable for this purpose, but they all still present as individual mods within the game.
I've been playing just fine in my own modded sandbox and today I was monkeying around with the mods. I got things stable again, but now when I click on any of the growthcraft barrels and such to look at the liquid inside, it crashes.

I'm terrified there's some kind of corruption in the files and I have to start over.
Looks like the current 1.7.10 builds of Growthcraft do not play well with the recent changes to the forge fluid API. You can try downgrading forge to build 1252 or under, but since most mods have moved on to the improved fluid API changes you may run into other problems. Without an update to Growthcraft addressing this you can always pull out the Growthcraft Cellar mod for now. I'm hoping Gwafu fixes this myself:)

No.
Only for a short time, I just needed to grab the content so I can transfer to another wiki hosting site.

What I think would be cool is a mix of normal leaves, and some of your new apple leaves, and than a few hanging apples
