Is this (the nether items in the spawning structures) really such a big deal?
I mean, the core complaint seems to be "lost vanilla play content", which given the amount of awesome content Ars Magica adds seems rather small.
And, let us face it, a great many mods change the vanilla play style completely.
Buildcraft quarries changes mining totally.
Rei's minimap changes exploration utterly, and makes compasses near absolete.
Forestry changes farming.
Etc. Etc.
Hence why I ask if it really is that major a problem?
Not saying there is no problem, just that there are probably bigger fish to fry.
Anyhow, I hope Mithion continues to have fun making this mod.
If he enjoys making it, I'm sure we will all enjoy playing it.
The worst thing for any mod is when its mod-maker(s) no longer enjoy working on it. And usually ends in a dead mod.
One point I'd like to make regarding the current towers is that on a server nether resources can get gobbled up pretty fast, making it necessary for players joining later (or lame at fighting, like me) to go further and further into the nether to find the resources needed. Tht becomes problematical. Thus, on the beta server, being able to find glowstone in a tower saved me. (I hate the nether with a passion. Being there for any length of time gives me a migraine.)
In that case, I feel the Dark Nexus should damage the player if they walk into it. It seems thematically odd that Steve is immune to it's power, but Steve's helpers are not.
Hey, just as an idea for a lightning spell (knowing these are lacking a bit) would one that allowed the triggering of redstone signals at a target be a good one? Either as a channel (where casting stance changed it's range) or as a single click (where casting stance changed it's duration) it could be useful. Another idea being a lightning rune, similar to the other rune traps you have. Last idea I had was a spell that, when used, based on casting stance, made it so that the area around the block you targetted would have an AoE damage over time style thing for a duration. A variant of the first idea could be a spell that triggers a wireless redstone signal over an area that powers all redstone in the area.
I'm not sure if this is a bug or funny emergent behavior, but frequently the light mages on my server develop a serious case of Florence Nightengale Effect. After healing me (very cool btw) they will follow me around in perpetuity--even after I no longer need healing. Has anyone else noticed this?
Would it be possible to permit shockwave to crack ice back into water?
sorry if it's been asked already, but any idea about when the next open version will be available?

If you can't, don't post the damn km-long thing.
It is REALLY annoying for everybody.
This mod has helped me out with a few IC2 recipes thanks to the magic fabricator and with TC3 as well things have been very interesting thanks for a great mod ^^

He created it. It makes sense that he would put failsafes for himself in there.

Questions like these delay the release. Seriously, it totally kills my desire to work on this. Read the forum. The title will be updated when the mod is. It WILL be released. No, I DO NOT have a release date, and even when I do, I WILL NOT post what it is. There is still work to be done. Please stop asking.

Listen Mithion, I think what you're doing here is amazing. This is, bar none, one of the two best mods for Minecraft right now. But having said that, let me just say that if people being excited for your work is killing your desire to work on it, then I think you should take a step back and try to take things a little lighter. This is the MCF during a school break. There will be kids asking stupid questions just like there will be other kids white knighting you like there's no tomorrow. Don't let forums slow down your progress. Seriously, remember that for every kid here bugging you there are a dozen mature adults waiting patiently for what we all know to be one of the most unique mods to date.
Sorry about the rant, but I hate to see a good developer go down a very bad road. Take it from me, you don't want to end up like the Divine RPG group, crapping on all of their fans and taking advantage of preteens who don't understand the pitfalls of hero worship.

Dunno if this is a bug or just a personal glitch, but on a server i host when i push a light mage into my dark rune (yea im a bastage) it immediatly eats the light mage and the lightshow finishes, but keeps making the sound of a mob getting hit and starts generating essence ad-infinitum.

You have a point, but there's a difference between being excited and being lazy. I am excited that others are excited for this mod, don't get me wrong. I *want* people to be as excited as I am for this mod. That part is what inspires me to keep going!
However: answering the same question over and over gets tiresome. I would like to see this forum to be able to be used for information on the mechanics and features that the mod provides, and for those looking for said information to not have to scroll through 20 pages of the same question being asked and answered over and over. I exaggerate, but you get what I mean.
Either way, my apologies if anything I said came across as offensive. It was not my intention, and re-reading it, it sounds harsher than I intended it to be. From my previous post please take this away: Any relevant information regarding updates will be in the title and the original post. If it's not there, then there's nothing to report.
Mith - smoky treat + local roast self-ground coffee + porch + rain. That's the stress-relieving ticket right there.
Of coarse it helps that I have two neighbors that sit on their porches as well playing accordions and singing cajun music all afternoon. Maybe you should find some of those too. Only danger is you might end up feeling lethargic and decide to snooze instead of getting back to work.

Awesome! So.... When is it going to be up - *window crash, gun shots, violent stabbing*
Well with that nonsense done and over witih, I just wanted to say Thank You for an outstanding mod, the spells are truly unique and give a lot of utility out in the world, and setting up a magic chamber with a nexus and similar items is so so fun. The animations are great, watching the arcane electricity go from conduit to conduit, so many wonderful little touches that make this mod so great. Also, my desire to explore the overworld has gone up significantly with the addition of the overworld housing and towers, truly making it a winner.
My question is, and I'm sorry if it's been asked before, but do you plan to do anything with the mages with different colored robes? Perhaps make certain factions out of them, killing one gains favor with the other and vice versa? Also, is there any other schools of magic that you may be including in future releases?
I must say that I really like this mod. I haven't played it much yet just tested its features and i like the spell book because almost any other magic mod uses wands and staffs but none really used the player as the source of magic.
What i would like to know is, is there a way to disable the spawning of wizards everywhere without destroying the boss direwolf mentioned in the spotlight? I would really like to use the spells and other thinks this mod adds but the mobs go against the adventure i'm aiming for once all the mods have updated to 1.4.6.
I also have a suggestion, the spell book looks sort of weird as you cast spells from the cover of a book. It would be nice if you could somehow use the enchantment table book as spellbook where it floats in front of you displaying the current spell and it flips pages when you select another spell, in a similar way that the runic dust mod does. Although i'm not quite sure if this is possible. Would be neat though.
and also it would be nice if the arcain bolt changed size depending on the mode selected.
anyway I would like to wish you a happy new year in advance
Disabling wizards isn't an option, though you could go into peaceful mode...the guardians still spawn, though the combat is a little...lopsided in peaceful mods. I am against disabling wizard spawning as they are an integral part of the mod, and I am particularly proud of their AI.
As a purely aesthetic feature, I would have to put this closer to the bottom of the list (spell books) - but I will look into it during the final "prettification" phases before no longer WIP.

Trololol...I have to say, you did make me laugh. Grumble grumble anyways
Mage factions are definitely a planned feature, they already kind of exist. Light mages will heal and protect you and dark mages...well they'll try to kill you. They just have a randomized skin based on faction so they're not too repetitive.
I have the rest of the features broken down into updates, each one will add a bit more. There are 4 more major updates before this is no longer a WIP. I believe full factions are update 3.
yeah it is weird. how about staffs? we can craft staffs that are so or so powerfull (3 different staffs: 1 Diminished staff 1 normal staff 1 augmented staff) and it would be awesome if we can get elemental staffs to. like Diminished staff of fire that make fire spells more powerfull to the same cost. so that we can select 1 spell in our book than bind the spell to the staff and than shooting it also create a spell to entbind the staffs. it would look like so: we have our spellbook in our inventory with our spells in it. than we have our staffs with the bind spells from the book in our HOTBAR, so we just select the staff we want and it will automaticaly use the spell that is bind to this staff. but we need to have the spell in our spellbook(or as scroll) in the inventory (not any bag or chest).
Staves are planned, though exactly how they will work is a secret for the time being. You're close though.
I have to say, the exploration aspect of the mod somewhat bugs me.
Don´t get me wrong, making exploration a bigger part of minecraft is a good thing, it is often underused.
However it can bring some problems, mainly, that at some point one can simply run out of stuff to explore, at least in a reasonable area.
In my recent world i have explored a vast area, about two days worth of marching in every direction, and i still don´t have dig, while the first structure gave me sense enegry, that i still have not used.
Is there a way to have the structures contain spell recipes in order of them spawning, meaing the first structures that get spawnd have simpler/low level spell recipes while those that spawn further away(thus later) have the more advanced and specialized spells?
There's no config for this, it's totally random - but I would recommend Mystcraft. That will ensure you never run out of ground to explore Plus it's a really cool mod.

Nope. It's part of the downside to the dark nexus. It kills everything, friend and foe alike, save players.
He created it. It makes sense that he would put failsafes for himself in there.
