1.- Well, the affinity tome is used for give you "affinity" to an element, if you have fire affinity to fire, the fire type spells will be cheaper for you, but another kind of spells will be very expensive. 2.- In the wiki the images of that essences recipes have the links broken.

In addition to the mana cost reduction, all spells in your chosen affinity will not cost a reagent when they otherwise would (ie, free augmented casting). However, spells in your opposing affinity, in addition to the mana cost increase, will have their reagent costs doubled as well.
An essence bag will not be added. That's part of the planning that you need to do before venturing out. Potions, reagents, spells/spell books, and space for other stuff. Heh, originally, essences didn't even stack!

I have been watching Tofski1337's playthrough with Mithion, and I noticed him digging obsidian with the spell. That seemed a little overpowered, so I was wondering if the mana used for the dig spell corresponded with the minability of the block. For example, Obsidian would take 100 mana, while dirt would only take 2, or something along those lines.
Eddenden, in the update the amount of mana dig uses will be determined by the hardness of the block. It's one of the changes Mithion is making to help balance the mod.
According to Mithion's friend Tofski, the next update will contain 40-50 new spells. Some may be user suggested.

The file is a zip archive made from the program 7-zip which you will need to have in order to open it. I am sure there are others that can open it, but I prefer to use 7-zip. If you are on a mac you can get a copy at 7zx.en.softonic.com/mac

Use the forge version I recommended in the OP. Later versions may have renamed things, or used a different version, which would be obfuscated differently.
The line qg.<init>(Ljava/lang/String;)V; not found means that something changed from the recommended version to the latest version.

There is no way to change the cap of a fabricator. Those limits/prices are in place because you aren't supposed to be able to fabricate those items.
Personally I find it rather clever to cap the essence but still list items with a higher cap. It doesn't *feel* like restriction, and it might fool people into trying to find ways to upgrade the faber.

Ice essence is currently broken but will be fixed for the next release. It is supposed to be snow blocks on all sides with arcane ash in the middle.
Plant essence is probably one of the hardest to get:

Life Essence is 4 eggs with Arcane Ash in the middle. That one will be changed in the next release, however. To what, I'm not sure.
