I have only recently discovered this mod, quickly grew to love its magic implimentation. I have started a new Let's Play series including this mod among others I have added to the Hexxit mod pack. I know other YouTubers have done it before, but I have a unique combination of mods that add additional structure, npcs and story lines. If you are so inclined, check out my series, which I hope to adding content to on a regular bases.
This is one of my favorite mods that I love to show off to just about everyone. Unfortunately all my friends will only play the newest versions of minecraft which is currently 1.6.2 Is there anyway you could update this mod to that version? I know you're busy working up a storm on ARs Magica 2 and all but you have no idea how much I love this mod >..<
It seems I am having a problem generating structures when I have Thaumcraft installed. Basically, everything from Thaumcraft generates, the aura nodes, totems, ect. but nothing from Ars Magica generates. Is there anything I could possibly do to fix this issue? If anymore info is needed just specify and I will try to deliver! ^.^
Doh! Seems like it wasn't Thaumcraft completely, but rather the add-on "Thaumic Tinkerer" causing the spawning problem. After I disabled TT, but left Thaumcraft on, I found a few towers. Although Thaumcraft itself does seem to change how often you see the towers, making about 2-3x further away.
Turn off retro worldgen.
Mana batteries will explode if overloaded. Be careful what you hook them up to.
I opened my config file for the very first time and found out the default is false.
I use the mana battery to change light essence to netural. Maybe I should think about it.

Utterly fantastic mod. Everything about it screams sheer creative genius, and the little touches, like the pop culture references on the spells, are golden (I just about died when I saw "Fuego!" on Fireball).
I have a few suggestions/gripes/bugs/mod compatibility issues to report. (Important Disclaimer: I've added Ars Magica to the FTB Direwolf20 1.5.2 pack, so these issues may be compatibility problems with the other one hundred and four mods in the pack (!!!) ---particularly Biomes o'Plenty, I suspect.)
Almost all of the worldgen is forming on isolated square platforms floating a block or two above the landscape---including above water, and even above lava lakes in the Nether (complete with green grass and a water "moat"). As I said, I suspect this is a Biomes o' Plenty compatibility problem... but perhaps the generation of these structures could be tweaked to check for things like water/lava/air below them, and make modifications to how (or even if) the platform is formed?
The casting time for many spells (e.g. Swift Swim) is a bit hard to judge from the hand animation alone; perhaps you could add a particle effect when the spell is ready to go?
The sound effect that plays when a spell buff is about to wear off is... well, "aggressive" might be a good word. It's loud enough to make me avoid walking through my Nexus so I don't get "pinged" in 30 seconds. Perhaps a softer sound might work, like a mystical "powering down"?
Scrolling through my spellbook with Sneak+Mouse Wheel is very inconsistent; it doesn't always cycle to the next spell when I roll the wheel (oddly enough, it seems to work better when I'm pointing at a block rather than into the air, but that could be confirmation bias)
I think making people puzzle out the Archmage Tower secret themselvessounds good on paper, but creates more frustration than fun---especially considering such a major part of spellcasting gameplay depends on it. Thing is, you can only be wrong so many times before it starts getting tedious, then frustrating, and then it's time to cheat out the answer with Google. It reminds me of beekeeping in SirSengir's Forestry mod. Getting the best bees used to be a matter of trial and error, but all that "error" was just driving people to fetch the answers online. So Sengir added an in-game way to research bees (the Escritoire), as a middle ground between "keep failing till you don't!" and "just google the answer!" Perhaps a similar method could be introduced to Ars Magica? Maybe a spell that can only be researched (never found), or a fourth type of Nexus constructed of End Stone whose sole purpose is to triangulate the location of the Archmage Tower?
Will you marry Azanor so the two of you can knit Ars Magica and ThaumCraft together in the way everyone---EVERYONE, I SAY---desperately wishes you would? Please?
Thanks again for bringing us such a fantastic mod!
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Amateur dinosaur hunter and extreme weather enthusiast, whose interests include spoken mime, armchair parkour, tactical gaslighting (for fun or for pay), conspicuous ninjutsu and Schröedinger's pentameter—of which this sentence may or may not be an example.
I was playing this mod with some friends, and we were different Elemental Magicians. And then one of my friends cheated by pulling a AK-47 out of nowhere and fired and killed almost all of us
And then after that murder, I've realized something, I've always wanted a Magic vs. Technology thing, but never found the right mod for the technology side (I don't want guns or tanks, I want Futuristic weapons)
Are you planning on continuing this amazing mod? I hope you are cause this mod seems like it has a lot of promise, and it would be perfect for those who want a Magic vs. Technology fight (like me)
On the ARS magica side:
Are you going to add another element anytime soon? I know there's Fire, Water, Thunder, Earth, Ender, Arcane, Plant (Isn't Plant and Earth almost the same thing?), Air, Magma, and Ice. Are you planning on adding Light and Dark? Or is Ender and Pure kind of like Dark and Light?
And can you add a spell that transform you into something else? I'd always imagine Ender Mages if they have enough Ender Magic inside them could turn into a Ender-Wolf, which is 3x bigger than a regular wolf, and can teleport. And in this new system, do the spells get stronger with your magic level, or do they get stronger in some other way?
Have you guys ever thought about making more traditionally minecraft-y models for all the various magical devices, machines and constructs and such? I don't mind the hi-res textueres as much as I do the odd angles and curves and such. Or maybe just an option to use either at the preference on the user? At the very least, textures and dimensions mapped to traditional binary dimensions, i.e. multiples of 2. From your Q&A, I understand you mind find these requests offensive so feel free to disregard me if so, I guess.
(I'm trying to texturing for your mod so this is also kind of a selfish request in that sense, too.)
The Imbue enchantment doesn't work on Archmage Armor? It says it will take 42405.0 essence in the magic fabricator, but the fabricator will only hold 15000. Bug?
Is this updated?Edit: Question answered.
Well derp I wasnt sure about what version it was.

Curse PremiumIncrease the towergen grid size in the config file. The number represents the square grid size that is used to control worldgen (one tower per grid).

Do mana battery also explodes? That's scaring.
