Summons a line of pillars of dark(black) fire in front of the caster for a duration of time. It will burn and take the enemy's health whilst causing damage and gives it to the caster. The duration of the pillars will be dependent on the level of the caster and so will the distance and width.

Summons a little arcane orb that spins around you and defends you from any entity. Its health depends on the level of the caster.
Oh no... I am so upset. Worst possible time to find such an amazing mod.. the time where I am to late to even compete for the beta testing... grr.... That really ruins the week. Well good luck on the mod! I can not wait until it's released! You can count on me being the first to download it!!! (Though my timing is not that great)
Good question, Mithion and I were talking about this in last nights wiki-ing session, however I guess we never came to a conclusion (it got to be quite a late night).
I would say if it fits within a 25 x 25 x 100 block area it should be fine. I am just going based on some of the towers that Mithion was playing with earlier on. How big were you thinking of making it?
I have the tower mostly complete now, it's after the contest but if I do get into beta then I can finish and give it to you. Just yesterday I learned the due date, and then my friend invited me to a baseball game, so I couldn't quite finish, get a .schematic, or post any screenshots. But the tower was placed in about a 25x18 area and it extends out a little past the 18 area, but its placed in the center, and that was just a top addition. I also am positive it's not 100 blocks high, it's fairly small actually (a bit smaller then I intended, but it could just be generated more often, with less treasure) but I think it would work.

If I am accepted; Am I allowed to have a beta test partner? if I let my friend test the mod with me on a LAN world I will accept all responsibilities if he leaks it or other things. he is my best friend and he doesn't even know how to install, let alone leak, a mod. if you want to contact him tell me and I will give you his Skype (I don't feel comfortable giving his personal information on a public thread) if not, no problemo, I have respect for your mod and would never leak it, even to him, without your permission.
also: I noticed that your accepted spells list hasn't grown in a few days, am I right guessing that you are avoiding giving away the winners, or are you just not accepting any of the suggestions...
finally: my spells list is on page 7 and I have been adding to it almost every day, should I keep adding directly to that one? or should I add my new ones in separate posts? (I don't want it to get lost under 500 other posts and my newest spells never seen)
Just was checking through to see some of my competition, and I found this. I also have a very good friend, who did a lot of help on the tower I'm working on, and helped me with a few spell ideas. He wanted to get into beta testing, but he never got enough time freed up to get a working forum account and post anything. If you would allow me, I would give him the download, and I promise you that he would never leak the mod, and would be very helpful towards the development (actually, if you're worried about leaking, I think if anything he's even more responsible than me, not that I'm irresponsible.)

There was no set number on closed beta testers but 20-30 seams like a good number.
Hey, I know the contest is over (Found out a bit too late unfortunatly, Oh well.)
Shadow Vortex Spell Type: DoT & AoE spell. Requires: 400+ Mana, Ender Essence, Lightning Essence. (Those who carry a Rune Niveus with them shall not be affected. Idk if this is possible though.) Casting Mode Augmented Effects: All enteties (Including the caster if too close), Causing them all too be sucked into the Vortex for a certain amount of time, Doing a DoT damage of a half heart each second. (Or more -shrug-) This spell lasts 5-7 seconds, The range increases more with the more advanced the spell gets. Particles of Black & Red starts, And Purple Lightning whirl into the Vortex meanwhile. At the end, The vortex explodes and pushes all entities & players (Wich survived) away from it. Costs: 400+ Mana, Ender Essence, Lightning Essence

Requires: Mana, Dependand on wich Casting Mode. Ice essence (If Augmented). Effects: Entombs the caster in a thick layer of unbreakable ice, Being immune to any attacks in any way for a short amount of time. Blue sparkling particles surrounding the caster while being entrapped in a box of ice, Immune to any damage.
Costs: Mana, Ice Essence (Augmented only).

Adds staves wich can channel specific spells (For example, A staff can be enchanted with a certain spell, Doing that spell? -shrug-) Oh, And i had a question. I read something about an aura.. Or circling runes or anything if you joined the Closed Beta... I missed out the event since i just found out about this mod.. Will it still be possible to get such aura in any way later?

Staves are something that are already in development, but some of the details have yet to be worked out. I'm thinking that you have to infuse mana into them beforehand, then they can act as something of a battery, using those reserves to cast the spell. That or they use some new ore/item/whatever in their construction, and they have a pre-set charge before running out.
As for the auras, there is currently no planned way to get them in the future if you were not part of the closed beta.

I don't know... can I suggest against new biomes? Even though you're adding in towers, I still don't really like the idea of making major modifications to world-gen... for the time being. New biomes when the faction arc comes around would be cool, though.

The suggestions list did not make it to the wiki. Today Mithion spent hours going through the spells and towers trying to finalize lists. To be honest, even after we met up for 7 hours today we only got the list down in a nicely formatted text document. Bugs were also fixed and a bunch more changes went in (a lot of those being cosmetic).
The focus right now is finalizing the build for beta invites. Wiki updates will come after.

There are other forge mods out there whose focus is biomes and ores. Rather than "trying to be all things to all men" perhaps it would be better for Mithion to focus on what he planned from the beginning for this mod, which is an epic magic mod. It will be compatible with the biomes mods and the ores mods, since all are forge.
Though it would be cool if some of the fantasy ores, like from Metallurgy 2, could be used in magical devises. But that could be an idea for an addon down the road someday.
BTW, *sending caffeinated beverage of choice to Mithion and Tofski* I knew from the sheer volume of spells being suggested you were going to have your hands full there.

Haha awesome. We are fans of Arizona green tea (with ginseng and honey). We kinda went through a 24 within the last week
So I had an idea of cultist magic for multi-player. So here it is, you make a staff called a 'Cultist's Staff' with a blaze rod( B ), gold ingot( G ), and ender pearl( E ).

When you shift-right click with the staff in hand it will have a slot where a scroll can be placed as well as slots for items use in augmenting spells. with a scroll and if needed other items (augmenting) the caster right clicks and holds with the staff this will place a symbol on the ground as long as the caster stays inside it and holds down right click. If a player that has a Cultist's Staff and the same scroll inside it if they step into the circle and use the staff it will power up the first casters spell when the first caster releases right click the spell will be cast and powered up according to how many casters their were.
Notes:
their should be a separate levelling system for cultist magic (CM) that affects the efficiency of the spell e.g. mana costs to power ratio, if a caster has a low CM level the spell will cost more and won't add much power.
the higher CM level of the caster the bigger the circle will get and the more people can contribute to the spell.
mana costs are shared between casters so it will cost everyone the same amount of mana and if a caster does not have enough they will be pushed out of the circle thus cancelling their contribution to the spell.
if a spell is augmented all casters must have the required items stored in their staff.
if the spell is a buff the effect is applied to everyone in the circle.
if a spell is started as a normal level all casters can only contribute normal level spells for it not augmented or diminished(Rule applies for all spell levels)
