Q2Lummox - Bug 1: Unless another coremod is (poorly) changing the rendering code (which is where the audio is being played from), it's actually raining somewhere nearby. Vanilla Minecraft now varies the local temperature, and I've wrapped the vanilla code around my seasonal variance. I'll add a setting to remove the vanilla change.
Bug 2: The snow falling on top of plants isn't a bug, but is instead an incomplete feature. There are config settings to change how snow works.

First of all, I want to explain why PML isn't updated yet. I actually made my goal of finishing my changes within that week - when I finished, though, another section didn't work with the new setup. When that one was fixed, a different one wasn't functioning, followed by another... At this point, I'm fairly sure I'm working on the last one (since I'm running out of things that could break), but am not absolutely certain of it. To show my progress, I've uploaded what I've currently got for the loader, even though it doesn't work, here. Again, it doesn't work - I'm just uploading it to show it off, since it's twice the size of v4.17.
I now have some flower textures to use, thanks to Ulfengaard. These textures will be included in the next build of The Seasons Mod, which will be ready soon. I actually had them for a few weeks, but I'm getting ready for new versions of both PML and The Seasons Mod, so figured I'd finally say it
Seworian - The snow configs are in the various world folders, and are the .dat files with "Seasons" in the name. To open (and edit) them, you'll need an NBT editor (I suggest NBT Explorer). All of the mod's worldly settings are in there, that way clients don't need to restart when joining servers (ie. to change the config), and so servers can have custom settings for each world/dimension. There's actually a huge amount of config stuff to mess with in the worldly setting file(s). The incompatibility issue is still underway, but is nearing a resolution.
Seworian (post 2) - yup. The closer the player character is to one of those spots, the louder the rain is.

Hi WeatherPony, I actually coincidentally found this thread due to the fact that I was looking for the seasons mod source code or some way to look at the previous code because I wanted to try to revive the mod by updating to the latest version. I, like many other naively thought that this mod was dead simply because I couldn't find any updated references to it. There are no references to it on google besides the old versions by nanondalt and RawrMad.
Regardless, I had previously believed I was able to (with my novice level of programming and modding skill) and was actually quite enthusiastic about understanding the original code and hopefully updating or effectively recreating the mod, however I do believe you are operating on an entirely new level here.
While I'm not quite sure I'll be able to help much with my current knowledge (basic to intermediate java programming knowledge, and basic minecraft modding skills (created a rudimentary mod just adding items and applying armor meshes and such)) I will wholeheartedly offer any support I can manage.
fionn153 - This actually does come up on Google, it's just not vary obvious since it's the third minecraftforum.net link. I'm not sure what to do about that...
If you'd like, I could send you some of the mod's source code so you can tinker with it, and hopefully add some new content/features. Not everything needs to be advanced Java - in fact, most stuff won't be - I've just been working with advanced stuff for quite a while, straight. I suggest learning at least Generics and the principles behind a scripting language (namely replacing functions/methods), but they aren't required to work with the mod; it would just help to understand some of what goes on.
If you'd prefer to work with Nandonalt/Trak(&RAWRMaD) code, go for it. I'm currently the only one left in the modding community that even touches certain sections of Minecraft's code that are involved, so I don't have anyone that I could bounce ideas off of - I'd love the competition, even just for that, even if I can't keep up. (You'd get their code by decompiling their versions of the mod.) (As an example of being the only one to deal with certain sections of Minecraft, I was the only one aware of and trying to fix a bug in the game's rain/snow rendering code, ever since I had run across it back in 1.3.2 (it was there before, that's just when I found it). That bug persisted until Mojang fixed it in 1.7.2, when they started manipulating the temperature - like I'd been doing all along.)
You'd learn more Java whichever way you go, though you'd learn different things by going down each path. I'll help you out, whichever way you'd like to go. (I said "Nandonalt/Trak(&RAWRMaD)" because you'd want to use bits from both of them. For example, Nandonalt's code was from before temperature was a factor, while Trak's wasn't very complete - you'd need to take Trak's temperature code and connect it with Nandonalt's stuff. Tedious, but good at teaching proper code merging, which is key behind [the now obsolete and against Minecraft 1.7+'s ToS] proper base editing.)

dannym32 - The loader I wrote that the mod uses isn't installed deeply enough. I'm working on fixing it.
crunkazcanbe - The mod actually has 0 base edits, since it's now against the ToS for modders to distribute any Minecraft code.
I'm still hammering away at the loader, and I'm now editing Java's system code to get things to work. Unless there's a problem I haven't found yet, PML is going to burry itself into the game's launch code through a whole bunch of nutty nonsense. Installation will remain the same, though

felinoel - Those were pictures from the original mod (Nandonalt's version). I liked the green winter colors, so I kept them. I knew others didn't agree with them, though, so I made it configurable on the client's side. The settings for grass and leaf textures are in the config folder config file.
While I try and finish up the changes to my loader, I'm now getting some help by TheOJO - he's writing an installer for the new code. The changes are getting to be a bit spread, and installing by tossing it into the mods folder won't be possible anymore. (That's were the installer comes in, though )

At this point, I've finished the changes for the next version of PML and am working on the final changes for the next version of the mod. While stuff is going well on my front, TheOJO (the one that was making the installer) hasn't been on the forums for a few days. Although PML's code is ready, installing it won't be the greatest with the newer ToS and without something to automate the process.
If anyone reading this knows and likes doing Java GUIs, please let me know - I could use your help writing an installer for the loader. I really dislike AWT and Swing...

I now have some flower textures to use, thanks to Ulfengaard. These textures will be included in the next build of The Seasons Mod, which will be ready soon. I actually had them for a few weeks, but I'm getting ready for new versions of both PML and The Seasons Mod, so figured I'd finally say it
Seworian - The snow configs are in the various world folders, and are the .dat files with "Seasons" in the name. To open (and edit) them, you'll need an NBT editor (I suggest NBT Explorer). All of the mod's worldly settings are in there, that way clients don't need to restart when joining servers (ie. to change the config), and so servers can have custom settings for each world/dimension. There's actually a huge amount of config stuff to mess with in the worldly setting file(s). The incompatibility issue is still underway, but is nearing a resolution.
Seworian (post 2) - yup. The closer the player character is to one of those spots, the louder the rain is.

Regardless, I had previously believed I was able to (with my novice level of programming and modding skill) and was actually quite enthusiastic about understanding the original code and hopefully updating or effectively recreating the mod, however I do believe you are operating on an entirely new level here.
While I'm not quite sure I'll be able to help much with my current knowledge (basic to intermediate java programming knowledge, and basic minecraft modding skills (created a rudimentary mod just adding items and applying armor meshes and such)) I will wholeheartedly offer any support I can manage.
If you'd like, I could send you some of the mod's source code so you can tinker with it, and hopefully add some new content/features. Not everything needs to be advanced Java - in fact, most stuff won't be - I've just been working with advanced stuff for quite a while, straight. I suggest learning at least Generics and the principles behind a scripting language (namely replacing functions/methods), but they aren't required to work with the mod; it would just help to understand some of what goes on.
If you'd prefer to work with Nandonalt/Trak(&RAWRMaD) code, go for it. I'm currently the only one left in the modding community that even touches certain sections of Minecraft's code that are involved, so I don't have anyone that I could bounce ideas off of - I'd love the competition, even just for that, even if I can't keep up. (You'd get their code by decompiling their versions of the mod.) (As an example of being the only one to deal with certain sections of Minecraft, I was the only one aware of and trying to fix a bug in the game's rain/snow rendering code, ever since I had run across it back in 1.3.2 (it was there before, that's just when I found it). That bug persisted until Mojang fixed it in 1.7.2, when they started manipulating the temperature - like I'd been doing all along.)
You'd learn more Java whichever way you go, though you'd learn different things by going down each path. I'll help you out, whichever way you'd like to go. (I said "Nandonalt/Trak(&RAWRMaD)" because you'd want to use bits from both of them. For example, Nandonalt's code was from before temperature was a factor, while Trak's wasn't very complete - you'd need to take Trak's temperature code and connect it with Nandonalt's stuff. Tedious, but good at teaching proper code merging, which is key behind [the now obsolete and against Minecraft 1.7+'s ToS] proper base editing.)

It doesn't work with a lot of mods man. Hopefully he is fixing that . I would love one day to add this to a mod pack . If he could get around to not having so many base edits it would help a lot .
crunkazcanbe - The mod actually has 0 base edits, since it's now against the ToS for modders to distribute any Minecraft code.
I'm still hammering away at the loader, and I'm now editing Java's system code to get things to work. Unless there's a problem I haven't found yet, PML is going to burry itself into the game's launch code through a whole bunch of nutty nonsense. Installation will remain the same, though

While I try and finish up the changes to my loader, I'm now getting some help by TheOJO - he's writing an installer for the new code. The changes are getting to be a bit spread, and installing by tossing it into the mods folder won't be possible anymore. (That's were the installer comes in, though )
