Really neat idea, and a great mod. It definitely doesn't get "easy" like you seem worried about with 1.3 and personally the enchanted golden apple replacing the scarab might be a good idea. I assume you understand the difference in requirement between the regular golden apple and the enchanted one and (for most people) it definitely isn't easy to make the enchanted golden apple. If however you feel it is still too easy to obtain, perhaps you could add an enchantment to it that refills the hearts? Much better and more original idea than a entirely new item in my opinion.
I strongly hope that the sickness idea is made into a separate mod and not included in this FearDeath mod.
Or at least allow us to disable the sickness feature.
Also, I don't use mods that add new ores.Because that makes the world unusable until that mod updates with each vanilla release.

I never get to 20 xp(I dont kill many mobs and a diamonblock?! it must be a huge scarab then @_@)
hehe, I think the recipe isn't hard enought for how much I die now, but I could make a easy version of the mod, or maybe make a config option for the easier recipe.

I joined in 1.2.5, summer 2012. First thing I ever built was a bunker in a hill next to a swamp, that had a diamond block entrance with a piston door, with bedrock and minecart tracks further in. I wish I'd kept the map around.
I got busy with Metallurgy and kind of forgot about it. I can update it, should be easier now that I have more experience with forge
You will stay at 1 heart, I thought about putting in a hard mode with perma death, and may add that as a config option if I update this.
uh, two questions, can you make it so people can have an configured amount of starting health(13 lives), and can you make it compatible with the hearts mod?

I hate having to delete my Hardcore worlds, most the time I wish there was an option to "Convert to survival/creative".
But anyways I can't wait till you can get this up to date and running!

This would be fun to use with the mod that stops you from losing your inventory when you die (I forget the name of it - it puts your inventory in a sack that stays at your death point). Doesn't completely screw you over, but definitely causes a huge drawback. You'd have to prepare significantly before you work your way to your death point again, if far away. Is there a way to edit the recipe? (me personally, not you). I think the recipe would be better as follows:

Having to retrieve a ghast tear each time you die is a little ridiculous, and personally it's harder for me to get 3 gold than 3 diamonds (because of Fortune), so it's a bit of a trade-off. Maybe make villagers trade them to you for 32 diamonds?
