I realize your a bit busy but has there been any progress on this? Or has somone else picked it up instead?
bit busy, isnt enough said on how much I need to work on. coinsidering the new 'code' scramble inside the Minecraft that got to be changed every update. thats why I know it takes along time, but no one picked this up insted. and I'm working on it so no one has the permission ethier.
I'm trying my best with my scedule but this isn't much possible.
I think is mod is outstanding and has plenty of fun material. Kudos on the project, simply because I don't even have the required calm to sit down and work on a mod this big. However with that being said, and in hopes without sounding like an ass:
I dont get it.
If I play a magic mod (thaum/arsmagica) I get what I expected. Magic in the mod. When I play this, I don't really have anything keeping my attention on it. There is alot of new material, but none of it really makes me want to continue playing with it. Having a new source to smelt my metal, and new "metals/chemicals" to dig up, doesn't give much to play with. Balkons weapon mod, gives you exactly: new weapons to kill with. This mod. . .wow I can smelt my iron faster. . .
I have the least amount of calm to sit and wait all day for my metal to smelt, but thats why one builds farms and otherwise to keep them occupied while the metal smelts. Having my iron, gold, or otherwise anything else smelt faster is nice, but I don't see a need to save myself an additional two to three minutes, when I could just as easily go outside and find more while I wait for it to smelt.
The mod is nice. It makes sense. It's done very well, but I don't find it necissary. Yes, I know it is unfinished, and so I think I speak for everyone when I say 'Cant wait to see what else you put in it'. I have a feeling in the comming months when it is updated further, I will be eating my own words as I try to scramble to download the new mod in pure excitement: however for now, it just feels uncessiary and doesn't really add to my vanilla flavor. Like I said though - it is indeed a fantasitic idea, and if updated further I feel that it could be the next industrial craft.
Also the lanterns/lamps: really nice. I like those and in honesty I feel might be the only reason to keep this mod for myself. Yes there are 'lantern' mods but I like the lamps here much better.
Sorry for the criticism, but I am trying to make it constructive, rather than just bland disregard for the modders time and life it took to make the mod. Don't stop updating. As of now I don't find it superior, but in time this will indeed be a fantastic mod that will outdo others for sure. Atleast thats what the hope is.
You still get diamonds for the mod. ^^
I understand, but as you said its an 'unfinished' one. so it takes more time and more progress to reach perfection.
I'm not one of the thoes creativy developers that can in one seconds think over so many things that are possible in code.
Everyone wants more, but this takes time to understand and build more stuff, insted of focusing rewriting the hole time trying to update each time.
Is it at all possible to make it so one of my old Steamcraft Worlds is compatible?
I'll add a special file, that changes the old block & item id's to new ones.
And you will be able to play on one of your old steamcraft worlds.
But make a backup of it, cause alot will be added or changed, and some values may go wrong.
But it should work
I noticed this mod a while back when I was looking for a good steampunk mod. I honestly think it's awesome, but it always seemed to conflict a little bit with other mods which always made me shy away from it. I thought since you are working to update it to the current version of minecraft anyways, I thought I'd toss some ideas.
Reintroduce Redstone - It probably doesn't hurt to keep it and you could even reduce redstone's conductivity to compensate. Think of it less of a magical powder, and more of a unknown element that seems to hold it's own electrical charge, with current tech not able to acertain why.
Copper - Introduce a means to get copper through native copper ore (just call it copper ore) and bornite. Bornite will be more plentiful, where copper ore will be much rarer. Bornite smelts into the purified copper, where copper ore smelts into copper ingots. Purified copper is then created into copper wire, and 9 copper wire in a crafting table in the 3x3 pattern will create 1 Bundle of Copper Wire, the bundle can then be smelted into an ingot. Copper Ingots by themselves can then be crafted into 9 copper wire.
This does a few things. This allows for more mod compatibility and forge ore dictionary use between Steamcraft and other tech mods (and mods like Metallurgy). It also gives you a new ingot to also play with and make brass with instead of just using copper wire. The reintroduction of redstone also meshes with other mods a little better.
You could also combine copper wire with redstone to create Red Copper Wire, which is then used as a more highly conductive method of sending a signal (and could have other uses, perhaps replacing copper wire in some end game recipes)
I think this might suit it better. And on the going for realistic approach, you are making armor out of obsidian and do have etherium which is just as magical if not more so than redstone. It would offer much more mod cross compatibility and help make the mod more mainstream
I think you said at one point you were working on a steam engine? In that you mean a engine for bc compatibility? that would be cool. could also make a steam turbine for IC compatibility. You could even make something that could convert steam power into blutricity! (not many mods actually add blutricity conversion for redpower 2 use, none that I can think of off the top of my head).
I do hope this mod does get updated eventually - I think it offers something fun that can not only work with other tech mods out there, but stand on its own.
I am a big steampunk fan and looking to build a private steampunk mod pack for my friends and I to play on. Anything that you need help with on getting this updated to 1.4.7? thanks and good luck!
I recently started playing this (the 1.4.2 version), and I cannot seem to find any quartz, emeralds, or tea seeds. Is there a reason for this or are they just super-rare?

tea seeds should'nt be rear but I'm not sure how's the generation blocks work at your computer.
Quartz should be and emeralds shouldn't be that hard, but dunno for now. Working on the mod again from scratch.

There would be a problem with returning back old worlds, the ID's have a problem with the new configuration of Items and blocks so I am not really sure about what I could do, I think its a Forge bug, mabye but for now I can't do anything about it.
So, I understand you are very busy, but are you trying to update the mod or are you planning on leaving it where its at? Just curious.
Yeah, I am.
I didn't notice a new update rolled out so I'm going to try again, I need the ID's bug fixed or everyone will suffer a big loss and it'll bug mainly from the ID's they'll change constantly or something. I'll try to post my sceduel of working on this mod, thought un-sure right now.

I really hope so, I'm now trying to get the blocks and items to work. Altought I only finished less then 1/4 of the hole list, I'm still trying.

Some re-vamping may be needed, but some other mod authors said that updating their mods was easy.
And also get rid of emerald and quartz they're already in minecraft
