#Message 18/04 - I need to train my java skills, dropping off my C# language projects, and focusing on this. I'm gonna remove anything that isn't really that good to save time, mostly the new energy that powers on the lamps and stuff. I'm going to replace it with redstone untill I get a good texture maker. Just noticed that its the same date just one month later .
After installing this mod, you should start a new world. Otherwise the ores will not generate.
If the mod does not work, please do not just post saying: "Why did it crash?" or "I got a black screen!". If you have a problem with the mod, please find your ModLoader.txt in your .minecraft folder and post the contents of it, preferably in spoiler tags. I'm not psychic. A lot of things can cause a crash, and that will tell me which one it is.
So what is Steamcraft?
Steamcraft is a complete overhaul of Minecraft. It adds roughly 40 new blocks, and about 70 new items. It also changes the way some items are crafted, notably Redstone, which is completely replaced. It does this to attempt to make Minecraft fit in with a steam punk style. A lot of the new content focusses on making the game feel more like it is set in the late 1800's.

This mod maybe downloadable but it is still a work in progress. More featurs are planned but not yet been implemented.

So.. you updated it to 1.2.5 while 1.3 is out for 8 days?

Forge isnt working for MCP7.0a for now.. sorry. but atleast i fixed the code for 1.2.5. It was so broken, I rewrote everything.

Just a minor criticism: Could you put Proloe's name a little more prominent at the top instead of "just" in the thank you section? Maybe right after the Steamcraft logo something saying "Original mod & idea by Proloe" with a link to the old thread?
On to the feedback!
Buglist/Compatibility issues/TODO list: -IDs need to be adjusted to the new Forge features. Now that Forge supports more than 4000 Block IDs the Item, Armor and Tools ID have to be moved! Adding 4100 or so to the Item IDs should do it. Here's an example of my working Steamcraft config:
-Cast Iron clashes with IC² Refined Iron. They're made the same way by smelting an Iron Ingot in a furnace. Solution: Register Cast Iron in the Forge Dictionary as the same as Refined Iron (edit: OR change the recipe, for example craft 8 Iron Ingots around a piece of coal -> 8 Cast Iron Ingots). But... -Even then the Cast Iron Railings recipe clashes with the Iron Fence recipe of IC². Both are made with 3*2 Cast Iron/Refined Iron in the crafting window.
-Also minor issue: Since so many Forge mods include copper maybe you should rethink the Bornite/Purified Copper/Copper Wire chain and how to integrate it with the forge dictionary.
I'll add "Original Idea by Proloe", because I rewriten the hole scripts, and thats alot of coding. because his script was broken..
Anyway, I checked with the IC2. I'll mabye edit the both registry of crafting. that will slove it.
Edit: I checked actualy. and there is no Cast Iron / IC2 Refined Iron problem.
only Cast Iron uses Iron Ingot to smelt. If I'm wrong can you send me pictures about both of them. and showing me the problem, thanks !

I don't think that is intended. I installed IC2 first.
The Item IDs were just an example, they're not complete, the Armor and Tools have to be changed also.

Steam furnace isnt the same as a reguler one
Use the nucler reactor if you want to make items fast & like the original furnace.
Updated to 12w10a. Check the changelog, to keep updated. also delete the config.txt ! to update new id's. if you started a world with stuff already, I'll advise you to keep your id's.
Copper Ore doesn't work in the Nuclear Reactor (Shouldn't it be called nuclear-powered furnace?) either:
If you only intend the Steamcraft furnaces to work with vanilla and steamcraft recipes then they work as they are supposed to, but if they're supposed to also smelt stuff from other mods (i.e. IC², Forestry, RedPower, Thaumcraft) they don't. I'm not a programmer, but isn't there a section in the Forge concerning smelting recipes?
For example, the electric furnace from IC² can smelt Bornite from Steamcraft:
As for a more serious bug: The Steam, Obsidian and Etherium Swords cannot block. The block animation isn't showing, the damage isn't reduced, but you're walking slower as if you were blocking.
I can also give you a few pointers concerning game balance (a few items might be overpowered) if you don't feel that I'm pestering you too much
btw, what's with the derpy version numbers?
Alright so I looked into it, and It was my fault.
the furnace's needed to smelt it, but it used an old function that didnt let them. now it uses a new one like the Furnace.

I know Ertheuim is a little overpowered, but the Ertheuim block is very hard to find If not I'll edit it as soon as possible :D.
The derpy version, its because the mod is in WIP.. and I like them more. really sorry if you cannot keep track ;(
The thing about Etherium is that it's unbreakable. I've played for 2 hours and I already have a sword that will never wear out. Put some enchanments on that and you have a real gamebreaker. Maybe something like three times the durability of diamond tools or so will balance it out for it's rarity (which is fine the way it is!)
But it's also Obsidian tools that are too powerful as they are now. Obsidian is easily obtainable and the tools are very good. 8 Obsidian -> 1 Slate instead of 1 Obsidian -> 2 Slate or something like that?
Mh, the thing with the version could be confusing since it kinda looks like the numbering system for the Minecraft snapshots. The title could be read as "Steamcraft version 1.2.5 for Minecraft snapshot of Year 12 Week 10-a"

1.-The steam furnace should have a little water storage so you can place several buckets to fill it so you dont have to fill a bucket every time you wanna smelt something, something like the forestry machines
2.-I feel that if you are using steam tools they should burn some materials to produce the steam needed to work, maybe they could have a little storage of water and coal and it will burn both every time you use it, could be like the electrical tools from IC2 were they have no durability but if they run out of energy (in this case coal/water) they will stop working
3.-You should add more "steam based" machines instead of focusing on uranium, this is Steamcraft after all and it could give us a reason to keep mining coal late game =)
4.-If you planing add new machines with big prosess you could also add a "steam engine" that is a block that you can feed with water and coal (or any burnable thing) and when you attach it to the machines they will work faster it would be nice

Personally, I would like to see it, rather than a power station in its own right, replaced with some kind of converter. Say, a steam system powers an "Etheric Condenser" to create something called "Quintessence". That could be used to make steam tools into versions that don't need fuel (I think that fuel for those tools would be a good thing). Finally, it could be used in an "Empyreum Reactor"...however, said reactor would not supply energy on its own. Instead, it would need Quintessence as fuel, and power from some other machine. Basically, it would amplify power, but not produce any on its own.

I'll look into it, I think the reactor is alright, but your right its not in the Steampunk taste. I'm still looking about it, first I want to fix all of the bugs and then I'll start working on the features.
Has anyone found Quartz yet? It doesn't appear to be generating for me.
Also, could you give us the damage rates for the swords? How many hearts of damage the deal? The wiki doesn't have them and is outdated.

Took a look at the new IDs:

Block IDs go up to 4096! There's still collisions with Blocks and Items! You need to add more to the Item etc IDs. Block IDs appear to be fine.
It's not possible to make cast iron anymore when using IC²: (Steam Furnace)

I will look into IC2, and will remove the broken recpies. mabye I'll make 2 Iron Ore's that spawn togther (one that was affected by water that was drown to the source of the planet(RPG :D) and one that was not affected.
Enchatment I'm working on them currently. It causes way Overpowered stuff. I'll add them to the next release mabye ?
About the ID's, I'll remake them soon. becuase If I'll be to late, you will again lose all of your stuff ;(. but It will be my last reconfig becuase, you lose Items in that way..
About the Block Of Diamond. I have no idea, I fixed it for Texturepacks, but It seems for non-Texturepacks it still has the same bug.

Redstone/Copper Wire on the ground isn't shown properly:
Only the blue particles are shown when it's turned on. You can't see it when it's turn off. When you try to pick it up again it turns into the white crystal labeled "Redstone Dust" (see picture)
I have fixed it, there is still some problems with it. but I'll releas a fix later on..
Enchantment is half working
Also the problems with Diamond/Iron/Gold blocks are becuase of TooManyItems. serious bug (I dont know why..)
I'm gonna wait a little bit for Forge. if it wont get updated in 2 days I'll update the mod and fix bugs.

Steam furnace isnt the same as a reguler one
Use the nucler reactor if you want to make items fast & like the original furnace.

Alright so I looked into it, and It was my fault.
the furnace's needed to smelt it, but it used an old function that didnt let them. now it uses a new one like the Furnace.

I know Ertheuim is a little overpowered, but the Ertheuim block is very hard to find If not I'll edit it as soon as possible :D.

I'm sorry that you needed to reinstall. but i said that you need to install it first(latest version)
i have also a few suggest in two categories...
Realism/Aditions:
1.-The steam furnace should have a little water storage so you can place several buckets to fill it so you dont have to fill a bucket every time you wanna smelt something, something like the forestry machines
2.-I feel that if you are using steam tools they should burn some materials to produce the steam needed to work, maybe they could have a little storage of water and coal and it will burn both every time you use it, could be like the electrical tools from IC2 were they have no durability but if they run out of energy (in this case coal/water) they will stop working
3.-You should add more "steam based" machines instead of focusing on uranium, this is Steamcraft after all and it could give us a reason to keep mining coal late game =)
4.-If you planing add new machines with big prosess you could also add a "steam engine" that is a block that you can feed with water and coal (or any burnable thing) and when you attach it to the machines they will work faster it would be nice
Visuals:
1.- I love the Steampunk style so it would be great having some kind of steampunk decorative blocks or a build in steampunk texture pack
2.-Copper wires should have a texture more like actual wires like the Redpower ones, instead of the redstone dust in the floor texture
3.-Maybe a steam machine to make steambaths just for the lulz
4.- Making all your steam based machines actually release steam into the air so if you have a tiny room with several machines running it will be hard to see trough all the steam unless you make a window or a extractor hat takes it out of the room
well that's all for now.... i will be watching how this mod grows =D

This is still planned, as there are some bugs with it.
I'll look into it, I think the reactor is alright, but your right its not in the Steampunk taste. I'm still looking about it, first I want to fix all of the bugs and then I'll start working on the features.

I will look into IC2, and will remove the broken recpies. mabye I'll make 2 Iron Ore's that spawn togther (one that was affected by water that was drown to the source of the planet(RPG :D) and one that was not affected.
Enchatment I'm working on them currently. It causes way Overpowered stuff. I'll add them to the next release mabye ?
About the ID's, I'll remake them soon. becuase If I'll be to late, you will again lose all of your stuff ;(. but It will be my last reconfig becuase, you lose Items in that way..
About the Block Of Diamond. I have no idea, I fixed it for Texturepacks, but It seems for non-Texturepacks it still has the same bug.

Alright. so the bug of Diamond block and others, I cant find out why.
So, as well as all of the bugs, I'm gonna wait for Forge 1.3.1 to rewrite and make it work great, and a special feature will come along as well. that I'm sure you will like :D!
