I made a new mod, called MusicPacks. It allows you to create custom Music, bundled in a zip File, like Texturepacks. This custom Music is then played ingame, like the default music. You can also provide music that is biome-specific (it will only play in a specific biome).
First, download or create (see below) the MusicPack you want to install. Then, simply put the zip-File into your .minecraft/MusicPacks/-Folder (if the folder is not present, simply create it).
How to select your MusicPack
From the Main Menu or while you are playing, just press M on your Keyboard (key can be configured in Options > Controls). Now select the MusicPacks you want to listen to. If you select multiple, music will be picked at random.
How to create a MusicPack
Convert your Music to .ogg-Files (for example with XMedia Recode)
Rename your files, so that the name only consists of lowercase letters and numbers
Create a new Zip-File
put all your music in there
to make a music-file only play in a specific biome, create a folder "biome" in your zip file and put your music file in there. it needs to be named "nameofbiome.ogg" (or, if you have multiple files for one biome "nameofbiome1.ogg", "nameofbiome2.ogg", etc.)
To find the name of a biome, simply press F3 Ingame, the biome name will be displayed
You can provide an image for you pack by adding a "pack.png" file (128x128), like with texturepacks
You can provide 2 lines of information by adding a "pack.txt" file with these 2 lines (like with texturepacks)
It should be compatible with almost every mod out there and also works in Multiplayer, as Music is handled client-side.
That's awesome!

By the way, could you make it that the music plays off instantly with some sort of fade-in effect when you're walking into an different biome? That would be really badass if that was an possibility!

Sounds like a nice mod. Some questions though; does the music you add in play on a continuous loop or does it have pauses between tracks, like the default music works? (you know how sometimes it'll be quite a few minutes before you hear another tune) Does it play random files or in a specific order from the zip file?

It just plays the music when the Minecraft engine tries to play the default music. Then this mod overrides the music file that is about to play. It will always play a random file, but prefer the music that is declared as specific for the current biome.
But I plan to add in more configuration in the next version. I already have some ideas, so stay tuned

Like in Terraria? :D.
That would be great! I kinda don't like how Minecraft plays music every 5 minutes or so.
This doesn't seem to actually work for me. I followed the steps correctly (I am computer literate) but it still plays the default music. Which version of Forge is this working with? I don't have any mods that would modify music in any way.

3.3.7 is the latest version of Forge I think...
Did you make a folder called "MusicPacks" in the .minecraft folder and place the zip-files with the music included in there?
Or have you tried to select the music packs ingame by pressing "M"?
If you haven't, give it a try!

Ah ****, I forgot about pressing M in-game. I kind of expected it to work. Thanks for reminding me, I derped pretty hard.
i guess i need more info some pic's or a video highlight might be a good idea here
Are you trolling? It replaces the default music that often plays with a pack of your choice. It doesn't do anything similar to what Matmos or soundpacks does. It's pretty clear.
Also, I got it working. It was fine, I just didn't select the pack.

Please give feedback and enjoy!
I did everything you told me to do, still I can't hear any music.
But I really like the idea of this mod!
I got a question,
Are you going make this mod compatible for multiplayer and with other mods in the future aswell?
my idea came true!
i promised you to make the default one so ill make it tommorow!
Nevermind, after waiting 1 hour or so the music finally showed up.
That's awesome!

And I'm a fan of Toonami
How about the rest of C418's stuff and maybe some Disasterpeace.

Yes, just like in Terraria!
I agree. Perhaps there's an hero out there (diesieben07) who can help us solve this problem once and for all!
