I have a mod which adds a new biome called the deep ocean, it's basically an extension of the ocean biome, but in code, it's a separate biome. It feels strange getting freshwater fish in the middle of the ocean. Anyways, I hope you get custom mod support out soon.
This Friday, midnight GMT (7pm EST) we'll be taking part in Modjam 2! For those of you who know, Keith and I made Atum during Modjam and with Modjam 2 we've picked up another team member, Odininon (of Enchanting Plus fame!) This time we're looking to create a new crops/cooking mod!
Modjam is a 96 hour contest to create a brand new mod from scratch entirely during that period, artwork, code, everything must be made all in that period! I've taken time off work and we're all psyched and preparing for the upcoming madness!
So come out and support us! You can find us on Twitch at:

This mod is really great! It brought fishing in minecraft back alive! I also fell for the "Press alt + F4 for free diamonds" message in the bottle. I was just curious.
If I were to try to use this with tech mods, would there be a way to disable the Aquaculture tin cans to prevent them from overlapping with the ic2/forestry tin cans, or even replace them with the tech mod tin cans?

Would you really want to put your food in something you fished out of the water? (In the case of IC2 Tin cans)

I highly doubt we'll have the cans useable, they look pretty roughed up =P
We might put in a config to let them smelt into a Tin Bar if you have a mod with Tin though.
*Or*... Tin cans and Steel cans? At one point they were actually different things. Tin cans were cheaper, and not good for acidic foods. However, tin imparts a taste, and steel has become cheap, so now low grade steel is the norm. Also, as aluminum recycling has become more profitable, steel and aluminum are the norm as they can be separated by electromagnets.
I tried it last night. I've actually managed to get a collection of... leeches, frogs, and turtles. Some questions:
frog legs EDIT: Never mind. I put them in the furnace.
I saw a reference to turtle soup, but I can't prepare the turtles. Can only some turtles be made into soup? Should I just throw the turtles into lava? (That sounds wrong....)
Leeches? I've got lots of leeches... Have you considered having a "bait" item? You could use leeches, or "craft" a raw fish filet into four baits. I imagine you could have one item id differentiated by damage values, like dyes, wood, and wool. You could then drop the "bait" item onto your rod, and get a small one minute bonus.
Lastly, did you say you removed the Neptunium bar? It might be best to keep it. That can be used to repair items.
Really enjoying this mod so far. Any chance of adding full compatibility with Biomes o' Plenty? (As in not everything is freshwater)
Also, it appears to me that if I have BoP installed, every biome is freshwater. Even default ones such as Taiga. Not too sure, IDs could have been changed even if the biome name is default. Sorry to be one of those annoying requesters.

Good luck, great mod!
Biome support is planned for a future release.
BoP modifies Vanilla Biomes, which is likely the reason for them being considered Freshwater instead of their intended types.
it would be cool if you could see fish mobs that bite the hook and then maybe put up a fight and possibly break your rod but more likely with a normal rod but still a epic mod

Thank you!
Turtles should cook into turtle soup directly, if not I need to check out the recipe.
Leeches can be mixed with a bottle of water into a Health Potion, bait is planned. Don't know if Health Potion recipe made it into this version though.
That's a good point on Neptunium.

Right now it's just a random number between min and max, I'll probably change it to a bell curve at some point

What's the link for the deep ocean mod?

Also, I caught a 96,900 lb whale. Can anyone beat that?

Jellyfish don't do anything at the moment.
I've caught a 200,000lb whale before, and I think someone else has caught one that's been at least 201,000lbs.
