What would be pretty cool is to eventually have fly rods than can only be used in the river biomes. You could probably have the rivers full of a bunch of trout species pretty easily.
You could also add a creel that holds all the caught fish.
For fish, my suggestions in no particular order: Snapper, Flounder, Redfish, Pike, Sturgeon, Tarpon.
Ya know, you should probably add noodling...
Well the hope is that eventually the biomes could be home to their own sets of fish/lootables, then you could go across the world fishing up different species and such. So Rivers would have their own subset of fish etc.

Dang, I've always wanted to get my hand bit off by a 40 pound catfish without actually having to lose the hand...
The idea for the creel is that if you catch a bunch of fish you don't have 12 different species taking up half your inventory spots, but I suppose most people will probably be fishing as an entertainment/unwinding activity close to home so transport won't be a bigge.
I tend to be one of those Minecraftians that goes on LONG journeys away from base so anything that helps save inventory space is always a plus.
Oh! Just had a very cool thought! It would be wicked awesome if there was a fishing rod made with blaze rods and ghast tears for fishing in the lava in the Nether for catching nether fish species! That would really put a twist on things.

That was another thing I had considered but that's quite a ways out, I don't understand the fishing code to an extent yet where I can comfortably add lava fishing just yet. If I do, I'll probably implement it lol

ShadowClaimer you could also make a whole line of autofishers and you could also program them to work with buildcraft and redpower. Thats what a lot of farming mods are lacking auto-fishing.

Another great mod from you Shadow. I'm really looking forward to seeing how this evolves, just like your Metallurgy mod.
I can't believe someone hasn't done something like this before (or at least it hasn't been kept updated as far as I know).
Looking forward to SMP support and perhaps a mod made by you that adds more dungeons if you're at all interested in doing something like that. It would be cool to somehow link all your mods together (like the messages in a bottle giving you useful hints for certain dungeons maybe).
Your mods always get me more excited about minecraft, it's a great thing.

Both are ideas I'd like to find a way to do. I was trying to think of using code similar to the "Crystal Chests" mod, so that you'd store fish in a Tank storage block and it'd display them inside it, but its a complicated process.
