I don't usually say things in the forums , but I have to say I love this mod its in my opinion much better than pokemobs . Now there isn't anything wrong with pokemobs I just think this one has more of what i'm looking for in a mod . I'm especially thrilled that the creaters are working on SMP cause every things better with friends .
Thanks for the compliments! (: And welcome to the forums! (:
We actually have a good amount of SMP coding done, and if you want, you can check out the latest DEV release that has both out client and server downloads up (: We are constantly working to fix bugs and add features to Pixelmon, and are always open to suggestions (: In fact, we've had a raging debate going on our forums about Dynamic leveling, and how it should be done lol. Of course not a harsh debate, but it's nice to see people passionate about helping. Myself and the Head coder are always answering questions there, and there is always someone willing to try and help there (:
I really hate to ask but i'm setting up a server for pixlemon just for me and a couple friends and when i run the server the mod says its working but then I cant get past the mojang logo on minecraft , and if I start minecraft first the server freezes and just keeps trying to initialize pixlemon . So how can I run the server and still play on the same computer ? We are using LAN so the internet wont be a problem . On a side note can i turn vanilla mobs back on ? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated .

I'm curious as to where you're running the server from? Where have you put the minecraft_server.jar?

I am running the server from a folder on my desktop just like I always have I have ran servers multiple times and have never had the game do this . The mod works fine and minecraft will start as long as I am not running the server , but if I run the server minecraft refuses to go past mojang logo .
Ok everyone everyone. We need something settled. How are we to do the different levels of pokemon in the wild? At this point, only weak and easily defeatable pokemon spawn, but obviously we will need higher level pokemon spawning. How do we do this while keeping spawn relatively safe?
We've been having this discussion for a good 15 pages on the other forums, but I felt the need to ask the larger public.

We all have to stop thinking in terms of single player and smp being different games as it won't be the case for much longer. So it's one solution for both people

Yes, I should have mentioned this. as we all SHOULD know, SSP and SMP are gonna be the same in the next MC update, therefore, no differentiation before single player and multiplayer can be added to the code.

There's still only one feasible way to do this in my opinion. And that is, to take one point, and increase levels the further away you are from that point. We need some independent entity in order to make this work in SMP...
I think there are multiple feasible approaches to be honest. I think apart from that idea we could take the approach of distance from a village, a random scattering of all levels throughout the game or assigning level ranges to each biome so that it's uniform inside of each biome
I agree with Mr M's last idea. If we made 'clone' biomes, then we could make some biomes tougher than others, with more LIKELY easy biomes closer to the spawn.

Problems:
Scattering: Aggression will screw you over. If we did this, we'd have to scrap the aggression system, or rework it.
Biome: The biome is inaccessible until you are higher level. Also, good luck if you spawn in one, you're screwed. This would make gathering materials more trouble then it's worth, and exploring is partly what minecraft is about. We'd be making restricted zones. Also, you can't catch low level X basic stage pokemon, and can't catch high level X last stage pokemon. There's a whole load of problems associated with it.
EDIT:
Read the post about clone biomes. Still gives the problem of accidentally spawning in one. Maybe something like Dwarf Fortress's mechanics, areas which could for example be "Serene" for low level pokemon, or "Terrifying" for very high level pokemon. Look it up if you don't know the game...Let's just say the game's motto is "Losing is fun!". There's lots of Fun to be had in Terrifying biomes anyway...
Well I only read up to page 12, but its 2 in the morning so I'll have to finish later. Thank you Armadyl for getting my attention, and Informing me of this revival!

Go to Pokemonserver.net/forum for the pokemon server forum page! (Not to be confused with pixelmons forum page)

I don't want to be spoonfed easy pokemon because people are too scared to spawn in a dangerous area. The idea is, you get out of there. Duhka duh. We arent saying "You must build where you spawn!" because thats preposterous. Rather that you look for a suitable area for yourself, also that means you dont have to go miles and miles, further and further from your spawn (and might I add, most people don't build on top of their spawn) just to find a decent challenge. And then further for the next. And further. Then further. Randomizing the difficulties for whole biomes makes it more dangerous, sure, but isn't that nearly the WHOLE point of the survival game type? And mind you, hostility is only in difficulties above peaceful. Dangerous, but so much more convenient in the long run. And more legit.

That I can recall, only Magneton and Vibrava were added. Oh and staryu and starmie.

This is a bug that will be fixed in the next release
I wouldn't expect him to be amused. We are some distance ahead of him now
