Really like the new cooking mechanic. I can always count on this mod for adding common sense visceral features that nobody else could or will add. I do think you should skip 1.6.2 entirely, ignore the update mongering.
Are you getting close to releasing another full version and not just a test version?
another test, still got some changes to processes like smelting, and some additions, a full release would be when everythings done. (then a few fixing sessions, and likely a beta release if everythings there)

hm.. nothing I recognise. wha... bouncycastle...? not sure what that does in a server...
Really like the new cooking mechanic. I can always count on this mod for adding common sense visceral features that nobody else could or will add. I do think you should skip 1.6.2 entirely, ignore the update mongering.
Well the thing is, when updating to an MC version, id need an official standard release, and skipping it means I have a lot of time to finish such. this is good due to the fact I have less time.
Again, skipping 1.6 doesen't do any good. You'd then have to wait for first: 1.7 rel, then forge
uhh.. you know one who updates to 6 also needs to wait for 1.7 and forge. anyways Im not sure why people are debating weather to do it or not. you're not updating it, so what's your decision make?
yes, while most finally finish the update, rest their head: 7 comes out. apparently even more stuff changed yet again, so updating to 6 then going to 7 is a waste of time. It's not like there's anything in 6 that anyone would use(considering there's mods that add the content, and all the other stuff doesn't effect them anyway)
well probably, Id still push it till 7 though, so even if the full version is released before .7 that just means theres more time to clear out issues
It's your project, do what you feel is right for you.
Not sure why people feel we always have to follow the Mojang updates to the letter. The only thing we're missing out from it atm on our server is... hardened clay? :\ Not even really looking forward to 1.7's content. Fixes are welcomed, but biomes, pfff please got 50 of em, was even able to configure them. It be nice if they just rolled things into 1-2 major releases/year. End the permabeta...
Some people seem to just want something just because it's there. (I call it apple buyers syndrome). Most updates are obsolete due to mods doing a better job at it. and I can't see more biomes added doing anything until they bring the climate system back, maps would just be more scrambled.
Haha, apple buyers syndrome! Ive kept my ipad 2 and I haven't updated the software in over 2 years. Yea. Anyway, the maps should be less scrambled actually. They've grouped biomes into categories based on temperatures and weather. Similar biomes generate next to each other, and oceans ate smaller.

I agree completely. Mods have been doing everything Mojang has 'created' in almost every update; Horses 'Mo' Creatures, Simply Horses' Carpets 'Ivorius Mods, most furniture mods' Better Biomes and Mapping 'BOP, Highlands, EXBL' World Height, Dimensions, New Mobs, Better Mechanics, etc. It goes all the way back to them adding pistons, which were done better by the original mod author than what ended up in the game today. Stranger yet the majority of MC players are "purists" and hate mods for some reason but cheer when content originating from mods end up in the vanilla game. Honestly I cant help but think the blame really falls on the modding community itself since if a general consensus was reached to cease updating with frivolous mod breaking 'features' than it would most likely force Mojang's hand, however I am sure that is analogous to herding cats. It is really just maddening since I have seen countless really creative interesting mods fall by the wayside since the author wouldn't or couldn't keep up with new MC versions.

Well there is tons of people that play vanilla minecraft and do not bother installing mods(either because they don't know how, are scared to see the crash screen, or have a cracked account.) To them this update might be awesome. I personally am looking forward to it. also if there was a incompatibilty between one of the biome mod and some other mod, you wont need to worry about it any more
The thing is, when minecraft adds something from a mod that did it "better" they usually just simplify it so young kids can understand it just as much as adults. Because young kids don't make or use mods, mods often end up adult oreiented. That way kids can use simple vanilla minecraft while the people who want to add mods for a more complex game do so. However I think mojang should give some credit to mods who have already made what there about to add (I do believe that the creator of mo' creatures was actually involved in adding vanilla horses).
I also think mojang updates to often, it makes using stuff like mods harder.

That is precisely the problem though. The vast majority of vanilla-luddites are very young and that audience is Mojang's greatest target demographic. The adult market for Minecraft is certainly diminishing and Mojang knows that focusing on the younger audience is where they will make their biggest new profit. The really unfortunate thing is a massive part of MC's success was based on the mod community supporting the game with content that expanded the game past its limited scope. Mojang has benefited off of this relationship but has not really returned the favor by any stretch, least of which the fabled 'Mod Api'. It's almost too late for that as well since Forge has picked up all the slack and would arguably supercede the capabilities of Mojangs API. At this point the main thing I see holding the community back is updates creating more work for modders' and scaring away talent with no incentive to create.

You are certainly right about the mod using community being older than the vanilla community, if for no other reason than simple user ability. This brings me back to what I said about this dynamic where Mojang receives the benefit of the work the custom content community puts in without offering anything back. Honestly the most intelligent long term play they could make would be to help authors monetize their content if they desired. People could still put things up for free however content authors could make some money off of their hard work if they liked and Mojang could take a cut. This would give Mojang a long lasting source of income surrounding the community and would help the creators recoup some of the time they sink into these projects.
Sorry for the hijacking your thread AP, but I am really sick of seeing the mod community thrown to the wayside for no good reason.
Haha, apple buyers syndrome! Ive kept my ipad 2 and I haven't updated the software in over 2 years. Yea. Anyway, the maps should be less scrambled actually. They've grouped biomes into categories based on temperatures and weather. Similar biomes generate next to each other, and oceans ate smaller.
yeh that was the climate system.. they got rid of that when they made realistic maps... ironic.. that's why you see snow right next to jungles and deserts.
yeh that was the climate system.. they got rid of that when they made realistic maps... ironic.. that's why you see snow right next to jungles and deserts.
Whoops, I meant to say that the climate system has been a part of the newest 1.7 snapshots.
meh, it's a cause. I suppose it could make it's own thread at this rate.
I've got nothing against updates(mojang can do what they want with it). it's just those parts of the community that emphesise the updating process
Fair enough. Ill keep it on topic, do you have any plans to expand upon hunting at all? There are a small number of mods that add trapping and false ground blocks, however I have not seen anything that really makes hunting a more defined experience. It would be really interesting to actually have passive mobs that spook easily leading to chasing down prey or sneaking up on it quietly. Is this something you would pursue or is it purely add on territory?
well there were first going to be new mobs fr hunting, that ran from players(using detection methods), and later on traps (like claws) to catch animals.
Thats exactly what I am talking about and I would love to see it. More active hunting will make early survival a more challenging experience until domestication becomes possible, certainly encouraging role based team work on an SMP game. It would also dramatically increase the utility of the stealth system. Good to hear thats a possibility.

Sorry for the hijacking your thread AP, but I am really sick of seeing the mod community thrown to the wayside for no good reason.
yeh that was the climate system.. they got rid of that when they made realistic maps... ironic.. that's why you see snow right next to jungles and deserts.
meh, it's a cause. I suppose it could make it's own thread at this rate.
I've got nothing against updates(mojang can do what they want with it). it's just those parts of the community that emphesise the updating process
Whoops, I meant to say that the climate system has been a part of the newest 1.7 snapshots.

Well it's good they brought that back; kinda sick of all maps having splotched snow everywhere aimlessly
