Well the blast furnace.. not sure why. just seems a bit rigid. so to say. because iron or is just so common.. it's not consistent on it's speed. I am increasing fuel efficiency, and added coke to lighten the strain
Cast iron is very dark gray, and has a rough, brittle texture to it. Vanilla iron is...white.. right now, im treating it as pig iron (But id say it's a highly refined modern form of iron)
Well yeh. but vanilla iron is treated as pig iron so wrought iron from blast furnaces makes sense to begin with.
anyway; it's iron, one of the most tedious materials worked with. So it's good not to go too far into details. as it is seems good, just a bit difficult considering the nature of minecraft
nah, bloomeries make wrought iron. it's how they work. and vanilla iron is blast furnace.. why would it be made in a crucible as well. But by option, Might simplify it so normal iron works in an MF furnace though.
How it is right now is bloomery-wrought or blast-vanilla then hammer-wrought
And an optional simplified version(hardcore iron off). is MF furnace-vanilla than probably something else. I'm not totally certain. it just seems the whole blast furnace and the amount of resources and size needed just for iron... Its really hard to get a balance there. If you can think of a decent system that's both semi-real, yet still easy though. It's just that the blast furnace is a bit big, clunky, slow and wasteful.
It's mostly a matter on restricting the use of iron until you've played with bronze enough. Because a major problem is that iron (and making wrought iron with things like trip hammers) isn't newbie friendly
Also: the order in processing is a thing too. right now wrought iron is made from vanilla iron. that means vanilla iron can be used for vanilla and produced to wrought later. This means iron would be stored in vanilla form and turned when it's needed.
if some how wrought iron is produced mainly, and refined into vanilla iron later. than wrought iron would be stored. Wrought iron looks better and fits in to the concept better.
I'm focusing on the production of wrought iron-vanilla iron. adding a new tier means a lot of items. besides no one knows how damascus steel was actually made anyway, and it's just steel nonetheless
well, for wrought iron, make the processes however you see fit, in my opinion, iron is quite common as an ore. so the harder/longer the processes is to refine it to something workable, it puts some value in it.
As for the vanilla "white iron" maby have a simple wrought iron+bloomery recipe, not for any progression in this mod, but as a way to get the vanilla iron for other such mods that need it.

I think there should be an option to simplify it, but not be the default. I also agree that the time it would take and the resources makes it more valuable, and makes you feel more accomplished. Blast furnaces do take time and effort, but they're mostly made of brick and clay is absolutely everywhere and the materials you need to begin smelting iron are rather common.
I'm satisfied with the iron progression as it is. For iron per se I don't mind it being a mid or late game thing -- I'm not sure other mods should be accommodated to the point that the MineFantasy progression is abandoned to follow them. In the pack I'm putting together you just have to wait to start on your witchcraft and thaumaturgy. I've been much more concerned about how to deal with other vanilla items in recipes (like golden armor to make runic armor) without doing away with the hardcore crafting element that adds a lot of the challenge, though many of those can be found a drop or dungeon loot and this make them valuable (I can still imagine people complaining that the recipe was "impossible"). It shouldn't get any harder, longer, or more complicate -- everyone one want to advance and become the bad*** eventually and I for one don't want to play a game that is nothing but clicking a mouse at an anvil (tedious) -- but it doesn't need to be any easier or simpler either -- what I've seen is a good challenge and keeps players weak long enough for some intense experiences. The current hardcore settings for crafting / smelting should be the default IMHO (ores are another matter).
Of course, if some restictions can be turned off its less important than it would be otherwise (the guy wanting someone else to beg for a place in Fellowship? -- well, the modpack compilers would just need to turn off all the hardcore since it clashes with everything else they have, if they were to include it, though otherwise it would make sense).
Can't say why to add a whole new tier surrounding a field of items you only use for a small time. you don't even need the copper/tin tier. let alone branching another pointless alloy from it
I know that. But the point of it was that a new tier like that would make more sense than tin swords, per se. Arsenic Bronze can be mined, and is realistically as powerful as the tin alloy bronze is now in Minefantasy. Anyways, Do you have any new ores planned for this update or future updates?
I really like the iron stuffs in the test version, and I think all the hardcore stuffs should be activated by default. For compatibility, maybe you could find a way to get wrought iron recognized by mods for use in their recipes, may e through ore dictionary, and maybe something similar for tools as well (for example, thaumcraft has recipes that require gold and diamond picks and shovels, but I can't use other mods to add in my own recipe due to thaumcraft's research system)
I'm going to keep the wrought iron from bloomeries. That's the thing that makes the most sense. But wrought iron doesn't have to exactly be hammered Wrought means workable/flexible. But white iron (vanilla) is a form of cast iron. (meaning it's illogical to have ingots in the first pace). but that's liquified and cast- being too brittle for forging. Best made after wrought iron. Due to how common iron is. It's best to allow it to be smelted easily. so the blast furnace would only be used for the fancy ores.
I suppose default hardcore iron would be the blast-vanilla(pig)-wrought and an easier option would be MFfurnace smelt-wrought than crucuble+flux-white.
If iron is just smelted without the need of the blast furnace, that could re-visit the requirement to make steel instead.
So... the Hardcore options would be turned on/off in config? Also you should make some way of turning white iron into wrought iron considering irl malleable iron is cast as white iron... Just following that conversation before. This would allow for a lot of go between for many mods. Tinkers Construct, Metallurgy etc. Maybe there could be an option for having the blooms turn into white iron. Just a few suggestions from me. Feel free to ignore this but IMO this could add even more realism to this mod.
Ok, I was just thinking a lot of people like these mods and it would allow a greater range of modpacks to include this... More mod support=More popularity. Also did you see my thing about white iron being more malleable than black cast iron? Might be better to be able to use it for forging again. Sorry to bother you with suggestions AP, I really love this mod and want to see it as a big mod that everyone's heard of. NEI, IC2, BuildCraft etc.
hm.. a lot of people like these types of mods.. but it turns out not so many want to have to do anything hard. support could be added to metallurgy.. but a lot of it's processes would need to be disabled, let alone my 100 items x their 100 tiers...
and of course tech mods are always popular because 90% of players don't actually want to play the game- rather than having machines do it for them

This. I've always loathed the mods that make industry automated. What I really want in an industrial mod is probably something that you would make (or someone using you're api), with complex processes and machines to get large quantities of a good, but still requiring lots of work and manpower. You should be hiring other players (or NPC's if you're rich) to do labour if you don't want to, not build a magic machine that solves all your problems.

compatability can only come at the cost of hardcoreness, and hardcoreness is what minefantasy is all about. I would love to see minefantasy become super popular, but Not in some dumbed down compatibility version.
Also, in the latest build, bronze scale leggings have a texture that looks like it belongs to some kind of gilded armor, but is slightly different to all of the gilded legging textures.
Having config options to turn off some hardcore features can help ease newer players into the mod, and support to other easier mods also makes this mod more enjoyable to players who haven't used this mod yet.
I had a thought of a modern-day tech mod. that used maintenance, proper infrastructure (you know not just 'Pipe' a whole lot of stuff) and machines that still needed a worker to use. but considering the lack of resources for MF. can't say it's going to happen.
As it is- I can't say why on earth this is always-any nearly only crammed with tech on the first day, than complained about for it's no first night metals. the main complaint is the whole bronze before iron-but in the versions ive seen them using, that's a very short time.

Why make support for metallurgy and construct anyway, they break the progression here with thier dull simplicity
