For years man has dreamed of being able to slaughter his enemies with lightning and fireballs and all that, but that power has been limited to Nature and White Flying Squids. Until now

----News/Recent Updates----
----v3.3----
Fixed an issue with the game crashing upon performing certain actions shortly after creating a new world
----v3.2----
Should have fixed an issue with flight added from other mods causing mana to drain (please inform me if it still doesn't work)
changed how Home Bound works slightly. If no bed is found, Home Bound instead teleports you to the place where you first entered your current dimension. As such, Home Bound should now work in dimensions besides the overworld.
----v3.1----
Fixed a NPE when you try to cast a spell with no selected spell
----v3.0----
Lots of changes this time around
Added runes to the game, runes are spells that activate on certain events, such as taking damage, attacking, etc. More information is detailed below.
Added 10 new runes, (Cheat Death, Mana Refund, Double Jump, Reactive Force, Mana Shield, Thorns, Decrepit, Spellblade, Forceful Blows, and Flight) Details below
Added a cooldown system to the game. Some previous spells have received cooldowns. What this system really means, though, is that I will be able to add in more "overpowered" spells in future updates
Added a cast time system. Some spells have been given a required cast time before they can be used. Others cast just as they did before the update, but can be "charged" by holding down the cast button longer (only works with spells in the spellbook). This system will also allow for future "overpowered" spells to be added
Added more particle effects into the game, most projectiles should now leave a trail of particles behind as they travel.
Added 5 new spells into the game (Healing Touch, Deafening Blast, Torch Bolt, Healing Bolt, and Mana Burn), most of these spells have little practical effect now, but will be more useful when i port this mod to SMP (probably after minecraft 1.3 is released).
Added several new items, including the Runic Chisel (necessary to craft runes), Dark Mana Extract, and a few others that will remain secret.
Nerfed mana regen slightly, both in combat and out of combat
Changed the way teleport works, it now more or less teleports you in the direction you are facing, rather than always forwards. Note: it's still a little buggy when teleporting straight/mostly down, so handle with care
----v2.2-----
Fixed the mana bar overlapping the breath bar (for when you're underwater), the mana bar should now detect when it should move to avoid overlaps.
----v2.1-----
Fixed the corrupted mana berry icon being an apple problem
Fixed one spell crafting recipe that was giving the wrong item
Made some minor balance changes. Most bolt spells have had there mana cost reduced. Arcane Bolt has received a slight damage buff.
----Note----
As a part of the most recent update, your config files have been reset, sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you
----An Additional Note----
There is still a slight compatibility issue with nerd-boy's Battle Gear mod. If you have either keepInventoryOnDeath or KeepSpellsOnDeath set to true in your config, there's a chance your minecraft may crash upon respawning. For now, the only fix is to turn off both the aforementioned options when using Battle Gear. I'll be looking into possible fixes for next update.
----New Features----
Runes! Passive spells that activate on special conditions. They hold their own inventory slots in the spellbook.
Cooldowns! some previous spells now have cooldowns. When a spell is on cooldown, its picture in your spellbook should have an overlay detailing roughly how much longer the spell is on cooldown.
Cast Times! some spells now have cast times, others can be charged to have bonus effects.
5 new spells! all of which are detailed below
Particles for more spells. Everything should look nicer now!
How to change the location of your mana bar/spell box/castBar
In your config file, there should be 2 lines called DrawManaOffsetX and DrawManaOffsetY. DrawManaOffsetX represents how far from the middle of the screen the mana bar draws, with increasing x values drawing the bar further right. DrawManaOffsetY represents how far from the bottom of the screen the bar should draw.
There should also be 2 lines called CastBarX and CastBarY, which represent how far from the middle of the screen the cast bar is, and how far from the bottom of the screen it is, respectively.
The other two values are SpellIconOffsetX and SpellIconOffsetY, which control how far away from the top left corner the spell icon box is located.
----Mod Introduction----
The Intention of Manacraft is to add a simple, intuitive way to cast spells in Minecraft, that fits seamlessly with vanilla Minecraft as well as with other mods (especially adventure oriented mods). These spells have a variety of different effects, from throwing bolts of fire or frost at your enemies, to spawning torches or teleporting you to safety. However, in order to cast any of these spells, you need to have mana:
However, when you start a new world in minecraft, you start without mana, so how do you gain mana, you might ask? Mana isn't something you can just have, it requires years of work, practice, and study...
or you could just drink some of this stuff:
This is Mana Draft, its a concentrated drink of pure energy that, when used, will permanently increase your maximum mana by 1 flame. It's made by combining a Mana Berry (drops off of special blue bushes found in plains and forests) and Essence of Mana (gathered from floating blocks found naturally inside the nether) inside a wooden bowl. Once you have accumulated some Mana, it's time to get to the heart of magic: the spells
Most spells are crafted by adding mana essence to paper, along with some other ingredient who's magical properties you want to get. This creates a scroll, which you can right click (just as any object) in order to cast a spell (if you have enough mana). However, after about the 9th new spell, trying to search through your inventory to find that one spell you need while being chased by a creeper might be annoying.
Instead, spells can be added to the spellbook (opened by pressing M), and stored there. Each spellbook has 3 rows of 4 spells, which can be scrolled through at any time, even without opening the spellbook (pressing Z selects the next spell on the current row, X selects the next row of spells). The selected spell's picture will then be displayed in the box in the spellbook, as well as in the top left corner of the screen. This spell can then be cast any time (by pressing F).
----Some Basic Spells----
--Arcane Bolt--
The most basic spell, and also more than likely the first spell you'll craft. This spell fires a small burst of arcane energy a short distance. Costs 1/2 a mana flame to cast, and deals 1 & 1/2 hearts of damage to the first enemy it comes into contacts.
-Arcane Missile--
Upgraded Arcane Bolt, which goes further, costs 1 and 1/2 mana flames, and deals 5 hearts of damage to the first enemy it contacts. In addition to the shown crafting recipe, Arcane Missile can also be crafted by adding another Essence of Mana to an Arcane Bolt scroll
--Home Bound--
A magic scroll that, when used, will teleport the user back to his spawn location. costs 3 mana flames to use.
--Spawn Torch--
Exactly as it sounds. This scroll will place a special mana torch at the block you're currently moused over. Mana torches act exactly like regular torches, except they glow blue, and disappear when destroyed.
--Fireball--
Binding the essence of a Fire charge allows you to fling fire at your discretion! costs 1 mana flame.
--Summon Zombie--
Ever wish you could be followed around by a raving dead guy? well, that's creepy, but now its possible! By using this scroll, you will summon your own personal undead minion to carry out your wishes (as long as your wishes are to have a zombie attack your enemies). costs 5 mana flames.
--Heal--
Uh Oh! you're deep underground, with half a heart, and there's a spider looking hungrily at you. What's you're next move? Well, its probably should be to teleport yourself home, but instead of that, you could always try and heal yourself! for just 3 mana flames, you can restored 3 of your hearts, which should put you back on your feet and ready to kick some spider in no time!
--Teleport--
Endermen. Why should they get to jump all over the place and not you? Which is why you need this scroll. When used, it will attempt to teleport you 10 blocks in the direction you're facing. It even works through walls! (although, thankfully, not into walls or lava).
--Slow Fall--
Let's face it, falling sucks. Nothing is more humiliating then surviving a creeper attack, only to not look where your going and die from a 6 block fall. But that doesn't have to happen anymore! With Slow Fall, not only will you fall at the same speed as a chicken, you'll also not take any fall damage!
--Rapid Growth--
It's bonemeal, but uses mana...there really isn't anything else to say
--Force Wave--
By popular demand, a spell that gets stuff in front of you away from you very fast. For the dungeon explorer that hates creepers, but doesn't hate them so much as to teleport away, and not get that tasty loot.
And so much more! Currently, manacraft contains 27 different spells out there for you to discover, with many more on the way!
(hint: try using ingredients such as bones, fish, and snow blocks)
----Additional Crafting Recipes----
--Corrupted Mana Berry--
By performing a process similar to fermentation on a normal mana berry, you can corrupt its power.
Can be eaten to lose 2 mana (if you really want), and has a few additional crafting related uses...
--Mortar and Pestle--
By putting a stick in a bowl, you can create a mortar and pestle (A.K.A. a stick in a bowl). What would you use a mortar and pestle for, you might ask? well....
--Mana Extract--
Mash some mana berries in a Mortar and Pestle to get some Mana Extract, which can in turn be burned in a furnace to be turned into mana dust.
--Essence of Mana--
If the nether in your world is just....so terrible, you can still get Essences of Mana by crafting together 6 mana dusts (in a shapeless recipe)
--Manacloth--
By soaking Wool in Mana Extract, you can turn that wool into Manacloth! manacloth can be used to craft a variety of spellcaster related attire (all crafted the same way normal armor is crafted)
--Adept Armor--
Clothing for the modern mage on the go. Adept armor allows part of the wearer's mana to regenerate while casting, increasing with each additional piece of adept armor equipped (note, the Adept Robe offers the most mana regen, followed by the Adept Leggings, with the Adept Hood and Slippers tying for last)
--Runic Chisel--
A special Chisel for carving runes into a material.
--Primed Runic Chisel--
By dusting a Runic Chisel with Mana Essence, you can use it to carve the essence of items into various materials.
--Runes--
All runes are made by using a Primed Runic Chisel to carve the essence of an item into a material. Runes can be carved into 3 different kinds of materials: Wood Planks, Stone, or Gold Ingots. The Runic Chisel is not lost in the carving of runes.

----Installation----
0.BACK UP YOUR WORLDseriously, I don't want anyone breaking anything on accident.
Download and Install Risugami's Modloader (Detailed installation instructions can be found on that page) Minecraft Forge no longer requires ModLoader, so versions of this mod above 1.2.5v3 should not need ModLoader
Download and Install Minecraft Forge (for v3: atleast Forge version 3.2.4 or later)
Q: I dont like the awkward blocks in the nether, or the funky bushes, can i disable them?
A: Yup, look inside the config folder in your .minecraft folder, theres an option to disable generation of my blocks. However, you'll then be left without the ability to craft scrolls or get mana (unless you make mana stuff drop from chests added by other mods, or something)
Q: The (insert key here) used by your mod is used in another mod i use, can i change it?
A: You sure can! look in your config file.
Q: The Block IDs you added conflict with some other mod i use, can i change them?
A: Config!
Q: Will i lose my spellbook on death?
A: Not unless you want to! like everything else, theres an option in the config file to keep your spellbook on death. by default this is set to true, meaning you'll keep all your spells and mana when you die.
Q: I want to be able to shoot lightning and junk at my friends, when will I......?
A: Eventually, SMP is a planned feature, It will most likely be added after minecraft goes to 1.3.
Q: Your mod is bad, and you should feel bad.
A: Yeah, well, thats just, like, your opinion man.
----Planned Features----
Better particles
Blazes, or some other summonable spellcaster that will fight for you
Summonable Weapons and Tools - maybe -
Any other spells I feel like
Cloaks/Robes, which will likely allow mana regen while casting
More Cloaks, maybe
A passive spell system, called Runes, which grant certain spell effects that act passively, or activate on specific situations (I'm not 100% on this yet, but figured i would throw it out there)
EDIT: Meh, it uses too many sprite indices to fit into my modded MC. Do you have plans for implementing forge with this? It's possible to reduce the sprite usage a lot on this mod

Definitely interested in checking this out too! Looks promising. I might have the same problems Archer had though, but I'll download it and try. Good luck growing this mod!
Going to try this out today; I really like the "mana flame" idea, and the spells look really fun. Wonder what the other spells you've hinted at will do. (Not that I'll be telling you guys once I figure it out. :P)
Looks pretty cool. Definitively gonna try this out. Don't know if you have this, but have you thought about putting in a spell for fighting up close? Like, "Conjure Sword" or something? Or maybe an area knock back? That would be nice for when that group of zombies has you cornered in a cave

I agree; a knockback spell would definitely be worth adding. You can use the arcane missile for individual enemies, but there's not much you can do when you're surrounded. (other than teleport away, which requires about five seconds to switch out your spellbook while taking damage)
And on a side note; do you think you could add a secondary use for the berries; such as brewing mana potions? So then you could restore your mana quicker and give a use for the berry bushes after getting full mana.

Actually, swapping to teleport should be quick, as you can swap spells without bringing up the spellbook.
As for the berries, currently you can eat them to restore some mana, and i'd like to be able to use berries to brew potions, however, i don't want to change any of the base classes so i'm not sure how easy that is to do.
If I could make a suggestion, maybe make the spell papers look more scroll or mystical like? Currently, the color paper isn't bad, but looks kinda goofy while held.
What would be kinda cool is having the spell paper, then needing to fuse it with a magical object (an Eye of Ender?) and then that magical object turns the color of the paper. Holding a magic orb/item seems a little more fun than holding a piece of paper.
Just a suggestion though! I'm definitely checking this mod out.
EDIT: Do the Essence of Mana blocks spawn in previously created Nether Realms? I found the berries in new chunks in my overworld, but I roamed a fair bit in the Nether to look for the Essence of Mana blocks and couldn't find any.

They both should only generate in new chunks generated after you installed this mod.
As for the paper/scrolls issue, i didn't think it would be much of an issue, since spells are supposed to be put into your spellbook for use

Ah, good point! I forgot about that. I actually haven't made a spell yet because I've been trying to make my mana bar the legit way but I can't for the life of me find any Essence of Mana blocks in my Nether.
Do you think it's possible having other extra-dimensional area portals and mods could affect it?
EDIT:
Another question- Does the Nether generate new chunks after the first time you enter? I tried my best to go one direction for a good half hour and went into places I'd never been before and then beyond those places, still didn't see any Essence of Mana, nor did I see the usual chunk generating mechanism Minecraft has when it makes new terrain. I'm now at the edge of a lava lake that stretches as far as I can see.
Success- I had to go across the bloody lake to find new chunks and I see the essences of mana in abundance.

I have the following problem. Your Mana-Bar is overlapping with the exhaustion-bar of divisors Smart-Moving Mod. I will disable this exhaustion-bar, but it would be cool, if they both could work together
Otherwise great mod
Thanks
P.S.: Another question, are this bushes also spreading in an already started world, or do I have to open a new one?

Yeah, I'm thinking about adding an option in the config to adjust where your mana bar shows up
also to answer your question, the bushes only generate on chunks generated after the mod was installed, you won't have to start a new world necessarily, but you will have to go to some part of your world you haven't been to before.

----v3.2----
Lots of changes this time around
As a part of the most recent update, your config files have been reset, sorry for any inconvenience this may cause you
----An Additional Note----
There is still a slight compatibility issue with nerd-boy's Battle Gear mod. If you have either keepInventoryOnDeath or KeepSpellsOnDeath set to true in your config, there's a chance your minecraft may crash upon respawning. For now, the only fix is to turn off both the aforementioned options when using Battle Gear. I'll be looking into possible fixes for next update.

----FAQ----
Q: I dont like the awkward blocks in the nether, or the funky bushes, can i disable them?
----Planned Features----
Cloaks/Robes, which will likely allow mana regen while castingA passive spell system, called Runes, which grant certain spell effects that act passively, or activate on specific situations (I'm not 100% on this yet, but figured i would throw it out there)----Copyright----

EDIT: Meh, it uses too many sprite indices to fit into my modded MC. Do you have plans for implementing forge with this? It's possible to reduce the sprite usage a lot on this mod

I was originally planning to try and stay away from forge, felt like having people download 4 things to play this felt excessive, but now.....I think ill look into it
Thanks mate, I'm looking forward to playing this with Forge

I agree; a knockback spell would definitely be worth adding. You can use the arcane missile for individual enemies, but there's not much you can do when you're surrounded. (other than teleport away, which requires about five seconds to switch out your spellbook while taking damage)
And on a side note; do you think you could add a secondary use for the berries; such as brewing mana potions? So then you could restore your mana quicker and give a use for the berry bushes after getting full mana.
Actually, swapping to teleport should be quick, as you can swap spells without bringing up the spellbook.
As for the berries, currently you can eat them to restore some mana, and i'd like to be able to use berries to brew potions, however, i don't want to change any of the base classes so i'm not sure how easy that is to do.
uh sure, i don't mind
Then you wont mind me leaving this here lol.
I'm now at the edge of a lava lake that stretches as far as I can see.Success- I had to go across the bloody lake to find new chunks and I see the essences of mana in abundance.
Otherwise great mod
Thanks
P.S.: Another question, are this bushes also spreading in an already started world, or do I have to open a new one?
Excuse my accent, I'm from South Germany...
Yeah, I'm thinking about adding an option in the config to adjust where your mana bar shows up
also to answer your question, the bushes only generate on chunks generated after the mod was installed, you won't have to start a new world necessarily, but you will have to go to some part of your world you haven't been to before.
My only problem is with Mana Essense as in Nether sometimes these things are like up at the ceiling or floating above 80 blocks + lava lake.
Wish there was a way to grow Mana Berries XD
=====
Maybe combine Mana Berry with Bone Meal and make it a version where you can plant it and it'll grow into a new bush?
