Oceansssss: "im making a mod with birds for 1.10.2"
Yes, but different mods have different parameters and ways of working, not all of which I find good. For example, Animals+ made the animals continue to spawn and despawn the way monsters do in vanilla Minecraft. Mo's Animals had to be set up in such a fiddly way that it took hours to make it work on a server pack, and the spawning was still never quite right. Other animal mods caused massive server lag.
This mod does none of these bad things. Excellent models, good spawning rules, well thought out and logical ways of getting more of the mobs, excellent on the server. About the only quibbles I ever had with it was that it would have been nice to have settings for how often and how loud the bird sounds were and it would also have been nice to have the birds spawn in logical biomes - ie. snow birds in cold biomes.
Felinpedbko: "Just don't play in 1.10.2... 1.7.10 is the last good version and have a lot of mods."
You clearly have no clue what you're missing. Minecraft for 1.10.2 and Forge for 1.10.2 allow mod developers to do things that they weren't even able to contemplate doing in the long obsolete 1.7.10, with the result that the mods on 1.10.2 are of a much higher quality with much more variety and much better server performance.

Heya! Just to update you on where I'm at with everything:
For the past couple of months I've been trying to tidy up the code and fix some major bugs with the mod. I was begin to worry that I'd have to remove things like the encylopedia from the mod completely, however I like it too much as a mechanic. I finally had a breakthrough meaning it can stay! I have also been working on a few birds. Time for me has been very minimal so I only currently have a heron and blue-footed booby, though there will definitely be more in the next release.
I'm currently working on an update for 1.8 as that is the 'base' version for this mod, however updates will follow for 1.7.10 and then I'll begin to see on upgrading to 1.9/1.10.
I have a lot of birds and other game mechanics that I'd like to add and unfortunately there is only one person (me) working on this mod and I'm currently at my second year of university so updates might be inconsistent. Sorry about this, but I'm excited to have everything updated and working again.

take the time you need to make the perfect mod in their condition.
Good luck.
Pavo, why not open source the mod to an extent? It would help speed it up a bit. In addition, a few bugs that have been noted (I.E Derpy WAILA names) could be resolved easily with some localization shenanigans.
Excuse me Pavo_Reality, but would it be possible to add a few more pieces of config that seem missing from the main mod?
Most importantly, maybe the ability to change the spawning of the birds around a bit, due to them spawning in dimensions that shouldn't have them at all. Maybe allow the config to change the biome types they can spawn in as well, although, I find it to work well enough currently.
Also, a bit of a personal preference, I dislike the fact that you awaken the mythical Phoenix, you enslave it to fly around a bit. Could you possibility make it so it's more... free I guess? Maybe it has to be tamed after being hatched, with gold ingots or something, and actually allow it to walk around after being hatched, rather than 'wait for master'. Also, I find the flying ability a little overpowered, so perhaps make it fly around with the player as a companion, and swipe at enemies to catch them on fire? Maybe make it's model a little smaller and skinnier if you do that, possible make it the size of a more normal bird.
Random minor Grip, when you disable the flying in the Phoenix, could you disallow the saddle to be placed on at all, due to it not doing anything?
Thank you for all the work you put into this amazing mod, I find it fantastic that this thing could exist among all the human/horrible mob mods out there, and with all the extra details in this, makes it just marvelous!
Your attempt to take over any and all dimension mods has been foiled, and now I shall reap the victory of having the dimensions teeming with life again!
Although, I noticed a serious bug where nothing in any other dimension spawns, including vanilla or modded dimension. I noticed this problem, and suspected you mod due to the only mod I could find in one of the realms being your birds, and it almost hurts taking it out.
So that needs to be fixed, I hope it's not too bad. Still, great mod!
It seems all EB birds lay eggs almost as often as chickens. I have very few birds around my base, but still I keep stumbling upon eggs all the time.
I think the egg laying frequency of EB birds should vary or even lower than a domesticated bird, such as a chicken. The bigger and the rarer the bird, the smaller egg laying frequency. Preferably hardcoded.

By the way. let me introduce the ovenbird, a minecraft-y bird:

Guys which is the best version of the mod right now?

Doesn't matter what the press says. Doesn't matter what the politicians or the mobs say. Doesn't matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: the requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — "No, you move
