It somehow really surprises me that this thread isn't closed yet. Thanks for keeping things civil here!
Ok, so not a whole lot of progress was made due to school and also because this mod is getting really clustered. So what I will most likely do is go for updates in segments. I will update some mobs, sometimes add a new one, and then just release it. It can take some time but I will have more time to work on this now. The bear is coming along nicely. I've seen Mo'Creatures updates which kinda... make me sad. The whole purpose of the existence of this mod was to add these unique crittes and creatures but DrZhark already implemented his own versions which appear superior.... I just don't like that he added a Moth that's all.... I just felt really happy with that mob for some reason. At least I still have the Mole.... for now. At least my mobs are stilll Minecrafty, I guess, but the new models are also a little bit more detailed then you are used to. They are still 16x16 scale though.
As 1.6 will be released next week, I will continue working on it from next week on.
Thank you very much for this really nice mod. Now I don't feel so alone in Minecraft with all these mobs.
I have 2 questions.
First: Can I use this mod for my own modpack. I won't earn some money for this.
Second: Will this mod only come out for 1.4.7 and 1.6? Or will you make this mod for 1.5.2 too?
Because my modpack is on 1.5.2 and it would be nice to have this mod in my Modpack.
Just wanted to say thank you and also comment/suggest.
The main reasons I enjoy your mod so much is very simple... size ratio and realism. I've used Dr.Z;s mod for as long as I have played MC but never really took to it. It was fun to have horses, especially ones that fly. but no matter what, yours is all about the realism. The size and action of your mods is spot on. The Dragon Fly is perfect. It should be small and irrational in the way it flies... not look like a B-17 and sound like a bass guitar. The size ratio of the butterfly, squirrel, Bison, and mole.. they are all spot on as are the rest of your mobs.
Thanks for making all these considerations when you create your mobs. It really is critical to how they look and make the world around me feel more realistic. Dr. Zs mobs kinda leave me with that 'Alice In Wonderland', screwy size out of wack weird feeling. I mean maggots??? They're freakin' huge compared to the size of the fly, which is too big...
All the best, and please keep chugging away... it's a work of art!
Your installation instructions say to: "- Step 3: Unzip the contents of the downloaded zip. You should have a resources and mods folder now. - Step 4: Go to your start menu (or search bar) and type: %appdata% - Step 5: Go to the .minecraft folder in the folder that just opened. - Step 6: Copy the resources and mods folder to this folder.
But I already have a mods and resources folder in there, being I've got forge and some other mods already installed. Am I to assume that I put the .zip file for this atmosmobs mod into the mods folder with all the rest of my mods? Like you usually do with mods?
Great to hear that you haven't given up, Davey. I've always really loved that Atmosmobs includes varied birds. Seeing that update is what changed my mind about this mod, and I haven't looked back since. As the above poster pointed out, I like that your mobs tend to add functionality. Seeing beaver dams and moles digging around really adds to the experience.
So I'd encourage you to go for more of a "gamey" route, if you want to distinguish yourself further away from Mo'Creatures. For instance, you cited the moth as discouraging, correct? Well, one thing that bugs me about the insects in MS is that they don't really add much to the game. So, perhaps have bugs that go from caterpillar, to cocoon, to butterfly? Especially if you could gain string by breaking the cocoons and such.
Overall, man, keep doing the good work. And don't be discouraged, because you have hundreds of fans.
Thanks for all the support guys! Answering individually will be a pain so here are some overall responses:
- Mo Creatures is a great mod and I seem to always come back to it, but for me it just misses that 16x16 feel. It currently doesn't have that, which is one of the reasons why I started this mod. Having Atmosmobs and Mocreatures alongside eachother is great but it just sucks that there are duplicate mobs now.
- Thanks for the compliments on the scales of the mobs! That took some time!
- Spawning in Minecraft is like a Mob coders worst enemy (at least in my experience). So many things can go wrong and it just always turns out slightly off. I'll do my best and I hope I can recieve feedback on the spawn rates like usual
- The cacoon idea is great! I just need to make sure that the game doesn't have to check too many variables while the each bug would be growing. Should be a piece of cake. I also need to make sure that the player somehow notices them.
