I used Rei's forever.. honestly, this one is better. I won't get into specifics, but it has nicer features and seems to be more compatible than Rei's with most mods.
I'll third that.. swapping to this minimap was one of the best decisions I've made. I've also noticed that at least half of the crash reports for 1.5+ mods, have rei's installed. It's hard not to reply to every single one, telling them to get this one instead.
I am getting weird black blocks all over my map after running around a little bit.
Can happen if a world isn't fully loaded (or loading exceptionally slowly). Fix it by cycling through zoom levels (press z). Any other mods installed? Could be an issue with the chunk refresh flag

found the bug causing that. Should be fixed in the latest version. (re)download from planetminecraft. Let me know if that fixed it! Also, it looks like you have filtering off. You can turn filtering off for the icons as well in the radar... submenu
Can you add an indication of a item entity
You don't need to tell the difference between the normal entities and the item entities

technically it is possible to show any entity I like on the map. I get the list of all entities nearby, then display the ones I want. That is currently limited to living entities, but I could display more, like dropped items. Or arrows haha. I think the map could get a little busy with more stuff on it, but I'll keep it in mind.

Would it be possible for you to include some versioning into the Minimap. It is very tedious to "dig through" the whole site to find out if something has updated.
Really like this minimap - so much I've now moved to this instead of Rei's...
One small criticism though, I find it difficult to determine whether certain mobs are above/below me by only a couple of blocks
- I mean, it's hard to see if the icon is the right 'shade' to be on same level as me
e.g endermen have black icons - so how 'black' should it be,(or Skellys with their grey icon, how 'grey' should they be) - for them to be on the same level as me ??
Would it be possible to have the icon change somehow to highlight the fact that the MOB is within 1-2 blocks above/below or same level as you ?
Some possible examples of how to alter the icon.....
> Perhaps place a cross through it.. 'Warning this MOB on same level as you'
> Place a square or circle around it in a suitable colour (pointless having a green outline around a Creeper icon though)
> Have a small 'arrow' to point up/down instead of different shades (similar to Ellian MaterialDetector, though just the 1 arrow will do I think) - the arrow disappears when MOB is within 1-2 blocks of your current level

Lol, yeah. I've had to use Rei's minimap because of this. Ugh, it's not the same.
Just going to quickly chime in. Planet Minecraft is still down. A new download link would be greatly appreciated. That chat bubbles mod is a must have!

Can you add the indication of the drop item in a minimap?
There is no need to distinguish between the display of the drop item.
