dude that is sweet and twisted...having to wait for zombie villager to spawn ( 10% chance) and then hoard them till you get the potion to cure them, and to then.. finally start your village.. awesome
i do have to say that villager seemed like a way of cheating trought this map. i mean if you built it large enough you could get most of the rare items/ ressources without the real work. so yeah this is gonna be sweet.
Inside of dungeon chest you may put:
music disc
cocoa beans(and remove growing one from jungle tree)
one diamond so you will be able to make diamond pick without going to nether
- cocoa idea very nice, you would then have to plant it on the jungle tree to get a production going, sweet idea.
-for the diamond i would agree, but thats only because i have that hardcore bucket thing going on and its getting real hard figuring how im gonna get my portal going lol
When 1.4 will come out, you may also make one chunk of swampland with witch hut inside. Then it would be possible to earn slimeballs.
-king you said something about putting more dirt, i would suggets 1 dirt block so we can have slimes spawn there, or.. put a bit of sand and /or clay ( sand for potion making need with vilagers, or clay..well i seen it pop up a couple of time on this forum ). any way you would need one block beneath the four pillars of the hut i guess and that would be it no?
anyway as always your the man, keep it up. hope some of our idea, inspire you

The point of the swap is that villagers (as of 1.4) can be found from "zombie villagers" and have some splash potions applied to turn them into ordinary villagers. It will be harder to engage in trade with villagers, but going with the general theme of this world type, that seems pretty reasonable.
It will require that the necessary items needed to create potions must be made available without creating a village in the first place. I think that is the case as blaze rods can be obtained from the nether as well as bottles made from sand (and apparently potion bottle drops from witches?) as well as a small bit of soul sand and netherwart. Spider eyes are needed for a potion of weakness, and golden apples can be also made from the nether. All of this is already in the world or can be obtained using the resources in the world.
In other words, the "mini village" is now made obsolete due to changes in the game. This should be seen as a good thing, and that forming a village is a much harder struggle. I may even cut down on the number of diamonds found in the world as it is a bit overkill, but that remains to be seen.
Mushrooms currently are found in the nether, so as a minimalist world I don't see the need to put any more mushrooms in, and they are hard enough to obtain as it is. I may remove the red mushroom as it can be obtained from a spawn via mooshrooms.
The zombie thing slipped my mind... Go ahead!!
And with the swamp biome like mentioned it makes slimeballs a bit easier to get (without having to use an extarnal mod such as Rei's minimap or some of the external software that shows slime chunks)
As long as 2 diamonds stay for the Enchant Table thats fine, and 3 for the Pickaxe as you need to get a few bits of obsidian (short of that you could place a diamond pickaxe that has only 4 uses left to get the obsidian (or like 100 uses so it can be used a few times if people want)).
Ah yes... Forgot the mushrooms reside in the nether... Well.. Nevermind than lol

I'm concerned about how overpowered villagers are with this map as well. Then again I'm not a huge fan of the current trading system and would like to do something different in that regard. That, however, is an idea for a completely different mod that I would like to eventually make compatible with this mod (but not required).
If getting a villager requires that you must first go to the nether, build some sort of farm to harvest blaze rods, and spend effort on building a netherwart farm.... I'd say that takes quite a bit of work and effort. Having the supplies from the village as a reward at that point should be very appropriate.
In terms of docs on the World Gen API, I would be happy to write something up if there is any interest in another developer using the API. Mostly it is an extension of ModLoader that Risugami is using for his Biosphere mod. Originally I put the package together because Risugami didn't include the changed classes in the standard ModLoader distribution when I started this mod, but eventually he did. Subsequent to that, I also added hooks for custom Nether and End generators, and of course the FallFix mod that I'm also distributing separately.
If you would like me to write up a sort of "how to" on this API, I would certainly be willing to do that. Before I do such a write-up, I'd just like to know that somebody is going to actually read it and use it though. Sadly, documentation on ModLoader is so poor that I'd likely need to write up a document on ModLoader first. It is especially true now that the Javadocs aren't being updated by Risugami for ModLoader.
At the moment no other mod uses the API, but I'm open to anybody else trying. I have under development another alternate world generator that is a whole lot more complex than SkyZone that is still in an early development phase which I would like to implement with the API as well... or optionally I'd like to see something like this implemented in the official API that Mojang is putting together. The changes needed in the game really are pretty light for alternate generators like this.
Alright, here is what I was thinking / what I had in mind. Are you familiar with Mystcraft?
Mystcraft is a mod that, at the core, is a dimension manager. You have the ability to make a bunch of dimensions, each with a world generator (chunk provider/decorator), and then have multiple worlds/dimensions with your single world.
So, imagine all those world generation mods where you have to specify at the start the one-and-only type of world you want. Now imagine having 10 or 15 different dimensions, each with a different world generator.
Mystcraft, at the core, is that. There's a lot more, including a concept of instability, methods of inter-dimensional travel, teleportation, etc.
Now, there are lots of interesting world generation mods out there now. And, up until now, this was the only API for standard minecraft that I know of -- I didn't know it was now included in modloader, and I don't know if FML has it. If it's actually part of Modloader officially now, then it should also be a part of FML.
The point is this: If you have an API that has an implementation that works with vanilla minecraft, then Mystcraft could implement that API for registering new world types. Suddenly, world gen mod makers can code to an API and work with both standard minecraft AND mystcraft ages, and there would no longer be conflicts that are resolved by "Mod 173 is not compatible with AmazingLandscapes is not compatible with Wedge is not compatible with ... -- only have one in your jar file" -- by having a common API, regular minecraft would just have a bigger set of choices other than "standard, flat, one-mod's-single-choice".
(In regard to a mod that gives realistic animal genetics):
Would you really rather have bees that make diamonds and oil with magical genetic blocks?
... did I really ask that?
ok, im a bit confused right now.... got to the point where i have all my lava turned into obsidian, but only found 2 diamond block...did i miss somthing.. i know there is the villager i can breed to try and get a diamond pick axe. but still..there should be 3 diamon in total no?
cause i was telling myself that if in the 1.4 patch you remove the villagers and we need to go to the nether..then.. how do iget my obsidian...?
tks in advance

While this is sort of sinister, the other diamond blocks are found in the Nether. I know that doesn't happen in vanilla Minecraft, but it means you can't make a diamond pickaxe until after you have built a portal.
You can build a portal "in place" though by using a bucket to move lava blocks and then turning them into obsidian. An alternative is to use redstone dust obtained from villagers and turning that into obsidian with the transmutation trick. That works with the 1.3 version of this mod, but will likely not be possible until after you get to the Nether in the 1.4 update (due to needing blaze rods to make a brewing stand to get the villagers). On the other hand, Witches drop redstone dust, so you may still be able to build a portal that way
Oh yeah, you can get villagers to sell a diamond pickaxe to you. I even got one that makes a silk touch pickaxe, but I think that was a total fluke.
1.4 is out, and now looking very forward to this being updated. Not rushing you of course lol just saying the new stuff you going to put in place will be sweet!!!
Also cant wait to dig more and more snow from my snow golem (yes I build with snow, stupidly more quick than mining cobble)

Just wanted to say thanks for an awesome mod! This map has kept me busy figuring out how to do things in differnt ways and look at problems with differnet eyes. I've been crafting for about a month now and I can say without a doubt that Skyzone has kept me in the game, so to speak. Keep up the good work! I've enjoyed/liked all the Youtubes as well.
Looking forward to any further updates on the tubes as well as the mod, versions can wait once you know how to copy and paste files. Gotta love java and craft.

Sadly King Korihor hasnt been on the forums since like Novemeber 23rd.
I do however hold hope that he will return, I have seen many a mod maker/map maker dissapear for months and than suddenly is back up and running.

I've just been able to get back into Minecraft after a bit of an absence, and I need to sort of get myself inspired again with writing mods. In this case, I need to go in and become reacquainted with the modding process and what changes have happened since 1.4+
I'd like to get the SkyZone mod going again, but it is very much out of date. Much of the reason for writing it in the first place was to have automatic chunk generation of empty blocks... something that can now be done with vanilla minecraft. There are also a few "bugs" with the map that I found hard to cope with and need some inspiration to work with, and things like nether quartz that I need to add.
I haven't forgotten about the mod, and I do intend to get it updated.
Assuming this was a personal message? Either way awesome to hear something from him.
And King, we do very much hope you get this up to date
It is easily the best "skyblock" type map around, all the extra challenges and things you add really make it a big jump in the way skyblock maps are played
I myself spent countless hours on 1.3 and than 1.4 came out and I wanted so much of the content added, but kept playing anyway. Now 1.5 is around and I cannot wait for an update!!!

That makes it a real challenge to get the block of ice out of the Nether. Hint: You need a silk touch pickaxe to get it out of there.
