Welcome to my simple mod topic. I'll try to keep it as organized as I can, meaning you don't see anything you don't want to. All my mods require ModLoader. They all currently use blocks, too, so they may not be compatible with some other mods.
Supply Crates Mod [v3] [1.2.4]
Many thanks to supra107 for the crate textures and banner!
(That was a pun)
OVERVIEW
So, does anyone here remember the old April Fools joke with the Steve Co. Supply Crates as a Team Fortress 2 joke? Well, this mod idea sort of spawned in my head out of nowhere a while ago. If this advances enough, it might become a general Team Fortress 2 mod (sort of like how the Portal Gun mod advanced), but I'd prefer to keep it simple with updates every now and then adding crates and such. Currently, 1.2.4 doesn't support the larger block ID limit, and I can't have anything generate, so we'll stick with this until a less bugged version of Minecraft comes out. Then you can have a challenge in getting your crates, and the complicated metal to key feature can be taken out of the mod.

ITEMS/BLOCKS
Crate Dispenser:
This is a placeholder until I can have my crates generate around the world. The way you spawn a crate is by setting the top of this block on fire, and there is a 33% chance a crate will appear on top. The type of crate is determined by a random chance, although some crates may be rarer than others.
Key:
The key is what you need to open the crates, of course.
Mystery Item:
This is what you get from crates. Now don't get confused, this is an actual item that you must right-click to acquire an item from a crate. This may or may not be a placeholder for an unknown amount of time.
Shapeless:
WHAT YOU GET, WHERE YOU GET IT, AND HOW IT'S GOTTEN
What you get (Crates & crate contents):
Crate #1 [60% chance]
-- Planks [16.5%]
-- Glass [16.5%]
-- Iron Ore [16.5%]
-- Cloth [16.5%]
-- Smooth Stone [16.5%]
-- Coal [16.5%]
Crate #2 [30% chance]
-- Chain Helmet [25%]
-- Chain Chestplate [25%]
-- Chain Leggings [25%]
-- Chain Boots [25%]
Crate #3 [10% chance]
-- The contents of this crate are still a mystery. I'm too lazy to state their oddly made chances.
v3 - Upgraded to 1.2.4, made an item in crate 3 a lot more rare, added supra107's great textures, made key recipe result in only 2 keys, changed logs in crate #1 to planks for better balance.
v2.5 - You now get random item quantities from crates. Note: This doesn't mean you'll be getting very low amounts of everything.
v2 - Added 33% chance of crate appearing, and added rare crate #3.
v1.5 - Removed metal.
v1 - First release with Crate #1 and Crate #2.
Nearly up-to-date videos:
Thanks GrantAndVincePlay24!
Very outdated videos:
"Support this mod" thing because all mods have them:
This mod was originally going to be a pig biome that only spawned pigs and had piggen which rarely spawned pigs and dropped 1-2 pork. Well, that was my fantasy and I screwed it up really bad. So now I just start development on the block which I found to be too useful to stop development on. (Ignore the mod_PigBiome and BiomeGenPig.class, I'll deal with those later.)
When you destroy piggen, a pig spawns where you destroyed the block. There's also a 1 out of 8 chance that you will get raw pork along with the destroyed piggen. This can be used to farm pigs.
This reminds me of the mann co. crates in team fortress 2,all we need is hats with green fire in those crates now :P. awesome mod, looking forward to later updates.

I've had the effects in my mind for a while now, actually, and I... have no idea how I would do that. But I'll tell you what, I am going to research armor and hats that I might put in my mod just for it to be more convincing that they're TF2 crates you're dealing with.
Uploading v2, with new crate #3 and balance measures to keep up with this new crate.
Just like Team Fortress 2! I've been withdrew from TF2 for the past 2 weeks, this has to be the perfect mod to get me reconnected with Minecraft and the TF2 community! Thanks so much! Downloading now
Man, you need the metal there. And add hats... And you should left klick with a key on the block ( not craft them ) and the block breakes and give you the inside. When you do it it should take 5 sec before it breakes and that create sound playes :o, and if you could do something like adding parts from the Sentries and Teleport mod, so you can download a version that supports it

Thanks. This mod isn't a hat simulator yet, though, so it won't give you a full experience.

1. Metal and hats... I know, I've been thinking about them. I'm thinking that hats will be a little hard to add, but when I add hats, I'll add metal back in.
2. The idea with breaking the crate with a key has been in my mind since the beginning of this mod. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but there's a texture for an abandoned block in the files. It has a key in the hole. I'm for sure going to implement this soon enough.
3. The sound. This most likely won't be added because I'm not such a great modder, and I can't work with AudioMod. Nice idea, though.
4. The sentries and teleporters seem pretty advanced to me. If I ever get to that stage, it'll be when everything listed above is implemented already.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Well, just keep the crates coming! And After a while you should remove those logs and stuff.. It's just boring getting normal items.. Or at least you could make so they dropped from 24-50 logs? like random number? So it feels a little fresh?

Great idea with the random quantities. I'll put that in the next update.
Updated to v2.5. Added in the suggestion for random quantities of items.
Items with 64: You now randomly get 33-64 items.
Items with 32: You now randomly get 17-32 items.
Items with 8: You now randomly get 1-8 items.
Also, added a new mod spotlight video made by GrantAndVincePlay24.
More like a care package that needs a key to open (my opinion by the way)
This is a bit different, however.
Thanks.
Thanks.
That's a good idea, which I might apply when I get later into modding. Sentries would be a bit hard, you know. Still, great idea.

Fixed. It should work now. The new post thing is confusing and overly complicated.
