This is a simple mod that allows basic energy transfer between energy-enabled mods, as well as efficiency when smelting.
Also, it adds a perfect block for mob traps!
Simple as that. You craft one cobblestone into nine cobbles (reversible).
Then you heat up the cobbles in a furnace (mod furnaces work too, as far as I know).
The Heated Cobbles then can be used as fuel, at the ratio of 1 cobble per smelt.
You can also craft the proper Heatstone. Hot Heatstones aren't stackable, but they return the Heatstone after used.
Heatstone Blocks deal 2 heart damage on contact, and glow lightly. They are pushable by pistons. They do NOT harm items. They can be used as fuel, worth 9 smelts.
Cobbles and Heated cobbles can be thrown. Heated Cobbles give slightly more damage and set the target on fire.
Both drop as Cobbles on hitting the ground.
That's pretty much it. If this receives attention, here is my to-do list:
- Redstone controllable Heatstone Block variant
- Make proper Thrown Cobble entity; make Heated Cobble throwable
- SMP
And etc.
The item IDs are 5555 to 5558; Heatstone Block's ID is 124. They may change if one of your mods has an ID resolver.
Requires ModLoader. Just place the ZIP file into the mods folder. Do not unzip.
01/29/12 (1.1f)

- Changed Heatstone Block's recipe
- Made Heatstone Blocks a fuel (worth 9 smelts)
01/25/12
- Bugfix (1.1e)
- The Heatstone Blocks no longer delete items.
01/24/12
- New release (1.1d)
- Made Cobble throw snowballs, as a placeholder;
- Added Heatstone Block; harms entities and glows
01/22/12
-New release (1.1c)
-New icons
-Changed the heatstones to Cobble and Heated Cobble;
-Added Heatstone and Hot Heatstone.
-Hot Heatstone reverts to common Heatstone after using; it isn't stackable.
01/22/12
Major bugfix (1.1b)
/01/22/12:
Initial release (1.1a)
Known bugs:
- The heatstone is consumed in vanilla furnaces; it isn't in mod furnaces, though.
1 = 9 un-heated Heat stones
1 in a smelts 8 (coal only smelts 8 items) Heat stones
and these 8 heat stones can smelt 8 into 8 :stone:?
Where as 1 can smelt 8 into 8
Seems to me like this is a major waste of coal and your heat stones are not good. Or am I mistaken?
They were originally suggested in the RP2 thread as a way to power alloy furnaces with IC2 power - by heating these in an IC2 electric furnace and then using them to run the alloy furnace.

That's a nice use too. I don't know if it works in the Alloy Furnace, though.
This is a very innovative approach to cross-mod power transfer.
I commend you on finding a way to do it that doesn't appear to violate anyone's license or disrespect their work in any way.
I am sure over time that you will refine this and come up with additional features and ways to expand this mod. Remember that even RedPower started off as just one small thing and grew from there.

Uploaded a fixed version.
Working on 1.1c already.
Changes in 1.1c:
New icons
Changed the heatstones to Cobble and Heated Cobble;
Added Heatstone and Hot Heatstone.
Hot Heatstone reverts to common Heatstone after using; it isn't stackable.
You waste 1/9 of cobblestone to store 1 smelt's worth of energy. You do not waste coal.
Doesnt it require coal to heat the stone to make it heat stone? and it takes 1 coal to make 8 heat stones but the 8 heat stones only smelt 1 thing each then you would be better off just using coal since coal has 8 smelts per 1 coal.

The obviuos next step is to add something that can absorb the energy from a piece of coal entirely. Say...Hellstone. Surround a soulsand with eight heatstones to craft, not stackable again, performs eight smelts when used.
nice mod helps with compatibility, I can see myself using it even in a normal furnace for when i want to smelt that ONE thing. Nice job for your first mod

Uhmmm.... what for? You can just carry stacks with 8 Cobbles around. 8 Cobbles absorb all of the coal's energy.

No, each heatstone smelts 1 item.
1 coal = 8 heatstones = 8 smelts.
Why would one use heatstones when one could just use the coal instead?
1 coal = 8 smelts
8 heatstones = 8 smelts
I'm wondering where heatstones could be used that coal simply couldn't.
They have the ability to store energy. They really don't make much sense without mods.
Hey can be heated in a mod and consumed in another. Kind of like turning logs into coal, but with a 100% efficiency.
