The engagement ring just means that when you then give a proper wedding band (the one WITHOUT the gemstone), all the villagers will give you gifts.
It is REALLY worthwhile to get everyone up to as many hearts as possible before you do this, as the gifts they give you reflect how much they like you. A big, happy village will give you diamond gear and other goodies.
Ok, OK, so the gifts come with the actual wedding ring, despite the confusing messages. I've got the village back up to over 95% since my clumsy run at taxation, so I'm looking forward to the cleanup.
ETA: Ah, there we go. The same villagers who were quietly grudging their taxes of iron ingots and gold nuggets have silently (surely a few congratulations would be in order!) given me 9 diamonds, 6 diamond blocks, plus tools, armor and miscellany comprising another 59 diamonds (I do have an uncrafter), along with 3 gold blocks, nearly a dozen emeralds, and a sampling of building blocks. I could do with a little more variety there (other things are useful besides diamonds!), but still an impressive haul.
I did some CraftTweaker scripts for Mystical Agriculture. They fill in a couple of small gaps in MA, and also let you make or duplicate not only vanilla plants, but the blocks, plants and wood from Quark and Biomes O'Plenty. Also spawn eggs for most vanilla mobs! The scripts are here on Github.
Note: This is just a suggestion, feel free to change it if you want, as long as the overall idea is the same.
Basically, this is a suggestion for levels of royalty.
So, I was messing around with the Barron/Baroness feature, and then I got an idea. Maybe, if as a baron, you get the villagers happiness up high enough, you have the option to become a monarch, which will be similar to the old monarch system, EXCEPT, you can make your village go to war with other villages, and if you win, you get that village. THEN, when you have enough villages under your control, you're crowned emperor.
If you don't want to read it all, here's a summary:
[Happiness high > Barron/Baroness] (New ability: you can tax villagers.) (Already Implemented)
[Happiness Higher > Monarch] (New ability: Can wage war on other villages. Old monarch abilities as well. Village happiness goes down slower.)
[Enough villages conquered and taken over > Emperor] (New feature: Wouldn't being emperor be awesome? Other villages fear you, and have a small chance of surrendering before a battle even happens during a war. )
How war would work.
-When you wage war on other villages, you can have knights (Part of the old monarch feature, eh?) attack the other village, and it ends when the other village surrenders, or your knights are all dead.
-If enough battles are won, or if the village's monarch, whether NPC or a player, is killed or taken hostage, the war is won.
-You earn 'experience' for a Respect system, which makes other villages be more afraid of you, etc, from winning battles, and even more from winning wars.
Note: This is just a suggestion, feel free to change it if you want, as long as the overall idea is the same.

-NPC/CPU empires?
Hello friend, that great and incredible idea, I agree with you about the royal levels, I sincerely hope the WildBamaBoy add everything you said friend. I would love to conquer territories and villages and and fight against other players and all his kingdom

There are a few things I wanted to address, though, in case you hadn't seen them:
1. Bugs: In 1.10 I've noticed a few bugs that weren't there before:
- Game crashed when I gifted an engagement ring to a villager (did not happen with the wedding ring)
- When I gifted cake to married villagers, they had a baby but never put it on the ground (they would just keep holding it)
2. Baron/baroness: the "how to play" page on the radix site may need to be updated. I only just found out (through clicking Special on a librarian) that if the village is happy enough, they ask you to become a baron/baroness. I saw nothing about that on the radix "How to Play" page and thought it was neat. Unfortunately, I don't know how this works, or what other features I might be missing out on. (For instance, the fact that I only learned through experimentation that other villagers can also have special commands, not just clerics).
I hope this was useful, as I thoroughly enjoy the mod and think these are issues that may want to be addressed. If you've already heard these, then please disregard this post.
Keep up the awesome work! (This is such an amazing mod!)
ok so Im building a world and I need a way to make the archers on my castle towers shoot farther. If someone can tell me where I can find the right file to edit to increase the range or give me like a command I can use or something I would be grateful. I have really tall towers and the villagers don't even see the mobs on ground level.
I felt like using the last 1.7.10 version before the big change temporarily. But I found lots of villagers have untextured skins that have the word MacOsx before the file. Any help appreciated.

Does this work with http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/minecraft-mods/2641558-mo-villages-v1-5-2-for-1-9-and-v1-5-2-for-1-9-4 ? If so, that's awesome and I am SOOO going to use MCA, considering with mo' villages are generally more common.
Hello someone could help me, I need some instructions on how I can apply my skins in comes alive, or even a video tutorial. I would be grateful
I haven't tried it with the 1.9 versions, but it worked no problem in 1.7.10.

Sure would be nice if all of these were smashed together into just one unique mod...*coughs nervously*
It's a shame that Kinniken is no longer working in millenáire.
Why are the villagers just popping out emeralds? I've noticed that there always seems to be emeralds lying around and not a single villager has died?

No.
Post the bug to github. It would help a lot for you and others.

... so i was playing this mod earlier this week... i found a child with a full-grown beard...
I just downloaded the most recent update.
Are the villagers supposed to sleep in a weird attached bed even if there aren't any in their home?
